Filter by:This project intends to develop and implement an electronic reminder for post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) prophylaxis into the Anesthesia Record Keeping System. Each patient will have his or her PONV risk classified based on the following risk factors: Female gender, History of PONV, History of Motion Sickness, Non-smoker and Duration of procedure > 60 minutes. Patients will be randomized to either receive the PONV reminder or not. Those receiving the PONV reminder will have the PONV risk assessment and current guideline information for PONV prophylaxis displayed on the Anesthesia Record Keeping System (ARKS) screen at the beginning of the case. At the end of the procedure (specific at documentation of emergence), the reminder will assess the current status of PONV prophylaxis as per anti-emetic medications administered and compare the current status to the recommended status based on published guidelines. If the current status is compatible or exceeds the recommended status the reminder will silently document compliance. If published guidelines suggest additional PONV prophylaxis based on the patients risk profile and a comparison with the currently documented status, an electronic reminder will appear on the ARKS screen to alert the anesthesia provider of an opportunity to enhance guideline adherence. The reminder will not recommend a specific medication, intervention or therapy. It will be completely the decision of the anesthesia provider if and how to modify the PONV prophylaxis for the patient. Subjects randomized to not receive the electronic display will have it deactivated.
The goal of Part 1 of this clinical research study is to learn if ponatinib alone can help to control FLT3-mutated AML or FLT3-mutated high-risk MDS. The safety of this drug will also be studied. The goal of Part 2 of this clinical research study is to find the highest tolerable dose of ponatinib in combination with 5-azacytidine and to learn if the highest dose level found can help to control FLT3-mutated AML or FLT3-mutated high-risk MDS. The safety of this combination will also be studied.

The goal of this clinical research study is to find the highest tolerable dose of the combination of alisertib and TAK-228 that can be given to participants with advanced solid tumors that are associated with HPV. Researchers also want to learn if the study drug combination can help to control advanced solid tumors.
The objective of the study is to determine the quality of life of patients in the years following treatment with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The study population will include all adults treated with any configuration of ECMO at Duke University Medical Center during the period of Jan 1, 2009 and Dec 31, 2015. Patient's will be contacted by direct mail, in conjunction with a surgeon who performed their ECMO procedure or managed them while on ECMO, and asked to complete a validated survey (WHOQOL-Bref) which assesses quality of life. In addition, patients will be asked to opt-in to participate in a phone survey in which they can give a narrative about their ICU experience and answer specific questions regarding long-term comorbidities. Data will be stored in a secure online server which is HIPAA compliant and analyzed by the department of anesthesiology statistical support services. De-identified data will be shared with the WHO as specified in their usage agreement.

Post market clinical follow-up study about the Sinus-venous stent. Patients with venous iliofemoral occlusive disease are treated with the Sinus-venous stent. This observational study will provide 1 year data about safety and efficacy.
This phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of wee1 kinase inhibitor AZD1775 when given together with fludarabine, cytarabine, and filgrastim (FLAG) combination chemotherapy in treating children, adolescents and young adults with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia. Wee1 kinase inhibitor AZD1775 may help combination chemotherapy work better by making tumor cells more sensitive to the drugs. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as fludarabine and cytarabine, may prevent tumor cells from multiplying by damaging their deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), which in turn stops the tumor from growing. Giving wee1 kinase inhibitor AZD1775 and FLAG chemotherapy may work better in treating patients with acute myeloid leukemia.
This phase II study will assess the effect of a treatment combination of Rituximab and azathioprine in patients with Granulomatous and Lymphocytic Interstitial Lung Disease (GLILD) compared to placebo, based on change in lung function at 18 months compared to baseline. The researchers will also assess if the drugs improved quality of life.
