NCT ID: NCT03122691 Completed - Clinical trials for Behavioral Pharmacology of Cannabis

Differences in Cannabis Impairment and Its Measurement Due to Route of Administration

Start date: May 1, 2018
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This research is being done to measure the effects of both oral and vaporized cannabis (marijuana), at different doses, on the ability to perform certain tasks such as balancing, eye tracking, and computerized measures of memory and attention, as well as performance on a novel app (DRUID) that is being developed for field sobriety testing. The investigators will collect biological fluids (urine, blood, saliva/spit) after cannabis is eaten or vaporized to see if there are markers in those fluids that can predict performance on the behavioral tasks and the DRUID App. The results of this study will help us better understand the effects of using cannabis, and to help identify behaviors and/or substances in the body that relate to cannabis impairment.

NCT ID: NCT03122561 Completed - Clinical trials for Diurnal Variation of Paracetamol Excretion

Estimation of Paracetamol in Urine to Assess the Diurnal Variation

Start date: November 3, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Paracetamol is an antipyretic drug that is taken orally at different times of the day in same dose. It is excreted mainly through renal route which may show diurnal variation. In this study, urinary excretion of paracetamol of 41 healthy men of same age group will be measured by HPLC after oral administration of 500 mg paracetamol tablet at morning, midday and night. The measured values will be compared in order to adjust doses of oral paracetamol at different times of the day.

Immunotherapy and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) for Metastatic Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer

Start date: April 25, 2017
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to test the safety of durvalumab (MEDI4736) and tremelimumab in combination with radiation therapy and find out what effects, if any, this combination has on people, and whether it improves overall survival.

NCT ID: NCT03122431 Completed - Clinical trials for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

Relevance of Monitoring Blood and Salivar Levels of Drugs Used in Rheumatic Autoimmune Diseases

Start date: June 5, 2017
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

No drug treatment is completely free of risk and lack of response, adverse events and poor adherence may affect its effectiveness. Within this context, this project aims to evaluate the importance of monitoring blood levels and salivary drug used in rheumatic autoimmune diseases in the monitoring of adherence to therapy. In addition, this project intends to use the monitoring of drug levels, based on pharmacokinetic studies and pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics modeling, to broaden the understanding of the possible cellular, tissue and immunological mechanisms involved in efficacy and adverse effects of these drugs with the prospect of reducing the damage and maintain therapeutic efficacy. The high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled to mass spectrometry, which will be used to evaluate hydroxychloroquine, thalidomide, glucocorticoids, is considered the gold standard technology to qualitative and quantitative analysis of drugs in blood and its comparison with the dosage in the saliva is an improvement in simplification of the process. For biological agents the focus will be on the understanding the loss of efficacy and the possible role of anti-TNF antibodies using ELISA capture methodology. This project will be divided into four sections with their respective sub-projects according to the medications that will be studied: hydroxychloroquine, thalidomide, biologic agents and glucocorticoids.

NCT ID: NCT03122288 Completed - Aging Clinical Trials

Individualized Cognitive Training in HIV

TOPS
Start date: July 27, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Over 50% of adults with HIV have some form of HIV-Associated Neurocognitive Disorder (HAND) which represents a significant symptom that interferes with everyday functioning and quality of life. As adults age with HIV, they are more likely to develop comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and insulin resistance which will further contribute to poorer cognitive functioning and HAND. Based upon the Frascati criteria, HAND is diagnosed when a person performs less than 1 to 2 SD below their normative mean (education & age) on measures of two or more cognitive domains (e.g., attention, speed of processing, verbal memory, executive functioning). Yet, from the cognitive literature and prior studies, administering certain computerized cognitive training programs may improve specific cognitive domains in older adults and those with HIV. Such cognitive training programs may be effective in older adults with HIV and therefore investigators may be able to change the diagnosis of HAND in such cognitively vulnerable adults. In this pre-post experimental study, 146 older adults (50+) with HAND will be randomized to be in either: 1) the Individualied-Targeted Cognitive Training, or 2) a no-contact control group. The investigators will focus on those cognitive domains in which participants express an impairment and train them with the corresponding cognitive program. Such an Individualized-Targeted Cognitive Training approach using standard cognitive training programs may offer hope and symptom relief to those individuals diagnosed with HAND. Furthermore, these changes may result in improved everyday functioning (e.g., IADLs) and quality of life. This approach represents a paradigm shift in possibly changing the way HAND is examined. Specific Aim 1: Compare adults who do receive Individualized-Targeted Cognitive Training to those who do not in order to determine whether a change in HAND prevalence and severity occurs between groups. Exploratory Aim 1: Compare adults who do receive individualized-targeted cognitive training to those who do not in order to determine whether this improves everyday functioning (e.g., IADLs). Exploratory Aim 2: Determine whether improvements in HAND and/or everyday functioning over time mediate improvements in quality of life.

NCT ID: NCT03122119 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Low Back Pain

Effectiveness of Ultrasound Guided Platelet Rich Plasma Injections in the Sacroiliac Joint

Start date: May 1, 2017
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This prospective study will be quantitatively analyzing the effectiveness of platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) injections into the sacroiliac (SI) joint in relieving sacroiliitis and low back pain originating from the SI joint. The effectiveness of PRP injections on joint pain has been well studied in the knee and shoulder. PRP injections are performed on the SI joint commonly, but there is little research documenting their effectiveness when compared to other interventions. This study will be a small pilot study to aid in closing this knowledge gap. Additionally, these injections will be performed under ultrasound guidance. Ultrasound has been proven to be of equal reliability to fluoroscopy and has the advantage of shorter time to administer and no radiation. There will be one arm to this study. The data collected will be compared to existing studies on corticosteroid SI joint injection. The experimental arm consists of the PRP injection. The PRP will be injected into the joint using the exact same technique via physical exam, special tests, and ultrasound guidance as performed in our previous studies. The outcomes will be measured with the Numeric Rating Scale for Pain (NRS) and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) prior to the injection, immediately post-injection, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months post-injection. The investigators hypothesis is, "Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections in the Sacroiliac Joint using ultrasonography in conjunction with physical examination and Point of Maximal Tenderness will produce statistically significant pain relief for more than 3 months as measured by the Numeric Rating Scale for Pain (NRS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI)."
