Filter by:The specific objective of this study was to investigate the sensitivity of Kisspeptin receptor 1 (KISS1R) by determining the responsiveness of GnRH neuron to kisspeptin administration across the pubertal stages and adult group through measuring plasma LH (luteinizing hormone) and testosterone concentrations.
The purpose of this study is to assess the abuse potential of study drug lasmiditan. Lasmiditan will be compared to a marketed benzodiazepine, alprazolam (positive control), as well as to placebo (dummy substance that looks like lasmiditan or alprazolam without any active drug) to determine the potential for drug abuse. The dosages will be in tablet form and will be taken orally (by mouth). This study will last about 55 days, including screening. Screening will occur within 28 days prior to qualification phase.
The study primarily aims to collect standard of care clinical data in a wide spectrum of simple to complex mitral valve regurgitation (MVR) cases to validate a post-processing stand-alone software prototype (QFlow), developed by Philips Research Paris (Medisys). Investigator does not intervene in the care of the patient, but simply collects standard of care images and measurements that are needed for the validation of the investigational software.
Objective is to evaluate the impact of a basic training programme in motivational interviewing (MI) for medical students, by comparing the ability of students to promote behavioural changes through relationship skills and to conduct a motivational interview before and after training.
Coordination disorders are common among children that arrive to child development services. Children with coordination disorders have impaired proprioceptive sensation and motor planning. It is important to carry out a comprehensive assessment of these children in order to design an appropriate and effective treatment. There is a lack of an objective and standard assessment tools for proprioception and motor planning. Technology based assessment tools might offer a solution, as they enable automated and accurate measurement. The purpose of this study is to examine the validity and reliability of a new diagnostic computerized kit, which was developed for assessment of proprioception and motor planning among children with coordination disorders. The hypothesis includes: 1. Examine the construct validity of the new diagnostic computerized kit (the known group procedure). Whether there is a difference in the outcomes between children with typical development and children with coordination disorders. 2. Examine the construct validity of the new diagnostic computerized kit outcomes - correlation with the following associated variables: (a) motor skills; (b) sensory function; (c) participation in daily activities. 3. Examine of test-retest reliability of the new diagnostic computerized kit. Whether the outcomes are stable in repeated measurements. The participants will include fifty children between the ages of 5 to 7 years: 25 children with coordination disorders (study group), and 25 children with typical development (control group). Each child will arrive for an evaluation meeting that includes: (a) the new diagnostic computerized kit; (b) standard and routine tests for motor skills (Movement Assessment Battery for Children-2-MABC-2, and two sub-test of the Beery-Buktenica developmental test of visual-motor integration- Beery VMI). In addition, the children's parents will complete two questionnaires: (a) Sensory Processing Measurement (SPM) for sensory function assessment; (b) Participation in Childhood Occupations Questionnaire (PICO-Q) for daily participation assessment. After two weeks, ten children from the control group will be evaluated once again by the new diagnostic computerized kit for examine test-retest reliability.
The purpose of this study is to determine if patients with ER+, human epidermal growth factor 2 negative (HER2-), advanced breast cancer are receiving dosing adjustments and monitoring based on manufacturer recommendations at a tertiary academic medical center.
This study will be a single center, retrospective, pilot study to determine the effect of Rebif (interferon beta-1a) and Tecfidera (dimethyl fumarate) on infections on total lymphocyte counts, grade of lymphopenia, Cluster of Differentiation 4 (CD4) and Cluster of Differentiation 8 (CD8) counts and ratios in subjects aged 50 years and above with Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS).

More than 150,000 babies became infected with HIV in 2015 alone. When HIV drugs are started before or early in pregnancy, HIV positive women can give birth to HIV negative baby. This is possible because HIV drugs can reduce the amount of the virus in the body to the extent that they become undetectable by the time of delivery and during the breastfeeding period. However, some women do not start taking these drugs on time because they become infected during pregnancy or lactation. This leads to detectable virus at the time of delivery and puts the baby at risk of becoming infected. Also, the amounts of HIV drugs in the body have to be at certain levels for them to work effectively. But findings from some research have recently showed that pregnancy increases the rate at which the body removes some HIV drugs used to prevent the transfer of HIV from mother to child. While this may not cause any problem in women with no detectable virus before pregnancy, it may affect the rate at which the HIV virus is removed from the body in those starting treatment late and may put the baby at risk. This project will investigate whether the changes in drug exposure caused by pregnancy or other factors have any effect on the rate at which the HIV virus is removed from the body. HIV positive pregnant women and those who recently delivered will be recruited from different hospitals and follow up will be until breastfeeding ends. The investigators will not be involved in treatment decisions and the primary care provider will be responsible for prescribing antiretroviral regimen based on current guidelines. Samples will be collected to measure levels of the virus and the drugs in three fluids that transfer the virus to the baby: blood, genital fluid, and breastmilk. The HIV status of the babies will be monitored until they stop breastfeeding.
A double-blind, randomized crossover design with four arms including three experimental conditions and placebo will be applied. After having successfully completed screening procedures, eligible participants will be invited to four separate test days. The test days cannot be within the same week, however there is no upper limit for days in between, as long as the participants remain weight stable and do not change diet or physical activity level. Significant changes in diet, physical activity level (evaluated by the sub-investigator) or weight change ±3 kg over the course of the study (from screening to completion of the last test day) results in exclusion of that subject.
