Filter by:This is for a "Single Patient Expanded Access" of an on-going study (IRB#2017-3526). In the on-going study, the maximum number of subject will be 35 subjects (35 eyes) will be implanted with the KeraKlear device and will be followed for one year. However, this expanded access is for single patient use below is a description of patient condition and circumstances necessitating treatment: 88 year old female with 2 previous failed corneal transplants, had significant scarring and mild edema, surface well epithelialized, has potential for 10 letters of improvement in visual acuity. Patient is high risk for recurrent corneal rejection and failure and therefore would not be a candidate for standard corneal transplant. She would potentially do well with a partial thickness artificial cornea such as the KeraKlear.
This phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of rivogenlecleucel, and how well it works, in treating patients with blood cancer that has come back (recurrent) after stem cell transplant. Donor T-cell therapy (rivogenlecleucel) may help control transplant-related infections after stem cell transplant.
The overall aim of this project is to implement a non-invasive method of measuring quantitative regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) on the UAB hybrid PET/MRI scanner to allow conducting such [O-15]water based scans with relative ease and safety in a large variety of important clinical and research applications. Participants will undergo imaging at baseline and after administration of a drug to increase cerebral blood flow to evaluate perfusion estimates during low and high flow states. The goal of this study is to generate data that will justify eliminating invasive arterial sampling in most [O-15]water-based PET protocols.
This pilot trial studies how well a psycho-educational program called Emerging from the Haze works in helping patients with blood and lymph cancer. Sometimes, patients who have undergone treatment for cancer experience thinking or memory problems that make work, school, or everyday life activities, such as grocery shopping, difficult. The Emerging from the Haze program may provide resources to help deal with these types of challenges in patients with blood and lymph cancer.
This phase I/II trial studies the side effects and how well copanlisib works when given together with fulvestrant in treating patients with estrogen receptor positive (ER+) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 negative (HER2-) breast cancer that has spread to other places in the body (advanced) and progressing after prior treatment. HER2 and ER are two types of proteins called receptors that can affect the growth of breast cancer cells. Additionally, investigators hope to learn from this study if tumor genetic information is important for predicting whether this type of breast cancer will respond to fulvestrant and copanlisib. Copanlisib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Hormone therapy using fulvestrant may fight breast cancer by blocking the use of estrogen by the tumor cells. Giving copanlisib and fulvestrant may work better in treating patients with ER+ and HER2- breast cancer compared to fulvestrant alone.

There are more and more pregnant women who are obese. It is very difficult for obese women to get into labor. That is why when women are obese, half are likely to need a Cesarean delivery(C-section). Unfortunately, C-sections are more dangerous for obese women. There may be a combination of issues that cause obese women to need C-sections. We believe one of those reasons is that the womb of obese women respond differently to medications and devices compared to non-obese women. There are commonly two ways to help women get into labor. One way is a medication called misoprostol. The second way is a device called Foley balloon. In most studies, both ways are equally effective in helping women get into labor. However, these studies included everyone, and didn't focus on obese women. So far there are no studies in this area that focus only on obese women. Therefore we need to design this study to focus just on obese women and what is the best way to help them get into labor and avoid a C-section.
In order to further improve the therapeutic efficacy of advanced no-squamous non-small cell lung cancer patients, improve the life cycle, this study will take the standard after treatment pemetrexed combined other anti-angiogenesis drugs to maintain as the direction, so as to provide more over the evidence for the treatment of advanced NSCLC.
The primary objective of this study is the development and implementation of a survey administered to hospitalized patients on Internal Medicine that can be used in conjunction with previously validated predictive indices to identify patients at risk for readmission. The survey consists of previously validated as well as investigator developed survey instruments that will assess the following: health literacy, numeracy, medication adherence, self-efficacy, and tolerance. The predictive indices are the LACE, Charlson Comorbidity Index (included in LACE), and the Comorbidity Polypharmacy Score (CPS) which have been previously validated for risk of readmissions. The survey consists of both closed and open ended questions. A part of the survey will be administered by the study personnel while the rest is a questionnaire-based survey that will be completed by the subjects. Study personnel will be with the subjects in an open dialogue while subjects are completing the survey to answer any questions and identify questions that may be confusing or bias subjects. Approximately 30 days after hospital discharge, patients will be contacted via telephone to ask how many admissions and/or Emergency Department (ED) visits they have had since discharge. A correlation analysis will be done of the different aspects of the survey to determine whether there are redundancies. A regression analysis will be done to determine the predictive ability of the survey combined with predictive indices for readmission.
