Near-infrared Imaging Techniques for Identifying and Preserving Viable Parathyroid Glands During Thyroidectomy

The parathyroid glands and their blood vessels are notoriously difficult to visualize and may therefore be unintentionally and irrevocably damaged during thyroid surgery. This project investigates new surgeon-performed imaging techniques that visualize the parathyroid glands and their vessels in real-time during thyroid surgery. The purpose is to examine, in a matched cohort study, whether the implementation of near-infrared-induced autofluorescence for identification of the parathyroid glands, combined with indocyanine green near-infrared angiography of the parathyroid feeding vessels, can reduce the incidence of postoperative hypocalcaemia in patients undergoing total and completion thyroidectomy at Odense University Hospital.

Reducing inappropriate antibiotic use is a key strategy to mitigate antibiotic resistance and adverse health effects associated with antibiotic exposure. The Broad Implementation of Outpatient Stewardship (BIOS) project focuses on broadly implementing an evidence-based intervention to improve antibiotic prescribing for acute respiratory tract infections in pediatric outpatient settings. Primary aims include: (1) examining the acceptability, feasibility and utility of a focused implementation strategy on improving intervention adoption and impact and (2) measuring the effectiveness of the intervention to reduce unnecessary broad-spectrum antibiotic prescription.

CBM588 in Combination With Nivolumab and Cabozantinib for the Treatment of Advanced or Metastatic Kidney Cancer

This phase I trial evaluates the effects of CBM588 in combination with standard therapies, nivolumab and cabozantinib, in treating patients with kidney cancer that has spread to other places in the body (advanced/metastatic). The digestive microbiome may have an effect on how patients respond to treatment, and previous research shows that a specific bacteria found in the gut (Bifidobacterium) may predispose participants to a better response to standard therapies. CBM588 is a strain of bacteria that can restore species of Bifidobacterium to the microbiome. The primary aim of this study is to determine how CBM588 changes the microbiome of patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as nivolumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. cabozantinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Giving CBM588, nivolumab, and cabozantinib may kill more tumor cells.

Evidence of the clinical diagnostic accuracy and operational characteristics of the Bioneer IRONqPCR ™ RFIA Kit is needed to comprehensively evaluate Bioneer RFIA validity and inform global and national policy decision-making. The rapid diagnosis and appropriate treatment of M/XDR-TB is essential to prevent significant morbidity, mortality and further transmission of disease. The FQ are key components of the new bedaquiline-containing 6-9 month regimen, and so it is necessary to rule-out resistance to these compounds prior to treating patients with the shorter regimen. Currently there are no WHO endorsed tests that can identify resistance to both first and second-line drugs in one reaction.

This study evaluates the safety and immunogenicity of the BPZE1 live, attenuated pertussis vaccine, intended to prevent nasopharyngeal colonization and pertussis disease, and compares BPZE1 vaccine vs Boostrix vaccine vs both BPZE1 and Boostrix vaccines. This is a multi-center, randomized, placebo- and active-comparator-controlled study in healthy, school-age children with a 6-month safety follow-up after the first vaccination.
