Filter by:The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal timing for repair of left-to-right shunt lesions such as ventricular septal defects and atrioventricular canals.
Diabetic neuropathy is a progressive complication causing serious problems in 25-40% of diabetic patients. Anecdotal reports have indicated improvement with pulsatile IV insulin in patients otherwise resistant to all conventional therapies. Significant complications produce painful peripheral dysesthesias, loss of sensation and gastroparesis. This study is designed to test the effectiveness of pulsatile insulin delivery on diabetic neuropathy.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as arsenic trioxide, dexamethasone, and ascorbic acid, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving more than one drug (combination chemotherapy) may kill more cancer cells. Sometimes when chemotherapy is given, it does not stop the growth of cancer cells. The cancer is said to be resistant to chemotherapy. Giving arsenic trioxide together with chemotherapy may reduce drug resistance and allow the cancer cells to be killed. Thalidomide may stop the growth of multiple myeloma by blocking blood flow to the cancer. Giving arsenic trioxide together with thalidomide, dexamethasone, and ascorbic acid may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving arsenic trioxide together with thalidomide, dexamethasone, and ascorbic acid works in treating patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma.
RATIONALE: Erlotinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of erlotinib in treating patients with progressive glioblastoma multiforme.
The goal of this study is to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the rituximab at the adults with a chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura (>=6 months of evolution) and severe (platelets <= 30x109/L) and candidate to a splenectomy. The objective is to obtain after a treatment by the rituximab a satisfactory response to one year, defined by a number of platelets higher than 50x109/L and at least 2 times superior with the persistent initial figure without treatment during one year after the end of the treatment.
The primary purpose of the retrospective study is to determine the incidence of osteoporosis in women with previous Colles Fracture. Secondly, to determine to which extent Colles Fracture has led to a diagnosis and/or treatment of osteoporosis. The primary purpose of the prospective study is to determine the incidence of osteoporosis in women with an actual Colles Fracture. Secondly, to investigate the consistency between prospective and retrospective data.
The primary objective of this study is to determine whether lansoprazole, administered intravenously, can protect patients undergoing cardiac surgery from the development of and/or progression of previously undetected acid/peptic disorders (erosive esophagitis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, diffuse gastritis, duodenitis) as measured by the Lanza score and LA classification for esophageal injury. The secondary objectives of this study are: 1. To determine if intravenous lansoprazole protects against the development of clinically important gastrointestinal bleeding in this population (overt bleeding or requiring blood transfusion). 2. To determine if intravenous lansoprazole maintains the intragastric pH above that for placebo throughout the study period.
The aim of the study is to determine whether a therapeutic strategy combining mitoxantrone and interferon beta1b can delay disease progression of at least one point on EDSS scale in patients with clinically very active relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Nutritional supplements, such as glutamine, may prevent side effects caused by chemotherapy. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying glutamine to see how well it works compared to placebo in preventing myalgia and/or arthralgia in patients who are receiving paclitaxel for cancer.
The purpose of this research study is to find out the effectiveness of the experimental combination of Docetaxel, Cisplatin, and radiation therapy administered prior to the surgical removal of your esophageal cancer.
