Filter by:Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction is caused by impaired relaxation and increased left ventricular stiffness with a consequent increase in filling pressures. Currently, it is possible to classify it in 3 grades: grade 1 with normal filling pressures, grade 2 and grade 3 with high pressures. Diastolic dysfunction is closely associated with several risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity, as well as the risk of heart failure, cardiovascular events, and death. In the field of cerebrovascular diseases, however, diastolic dysfunction is still being researched. Thus, this study aims to: 1) evaluate the white matter hyperintensities volume in association with the increase of diastolic dysfunction and filling pressures 2) evaluate the possible association with carotid atherosclerosis in case of brain damage caused by dysfunction diastolic 3) understand the mechanism of damage caused by left ventricular diastolic dysfunction on the cerebrovascular system. In order to do this, this study proposes to evaluate in a cohort of patients, between 35 and 65 years, the possible association of diastolic dysfunction with lesions on the cerebrovascular system in a future view of new marker of brain damage and new modifiable risk factor.
In late 2019, a novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, was identified as the causative agent of a cluster of pneumonia cases (COVID-19) in Wuhan, China. Clinical symptoms of COVID-19 may be mild or severe. The location where a person will self-isolate will be determined by their healthcare provider and their health authority. When determining the location, several factors to determine the suitability of the home setting are described as the case should stay in a room of their own so that they can be isolated from other household members. The rapid increase and evolution of modern mobile applications for communication and messaging for personal purposes have proved great benefit in healthcare management
The ALGOBASES project is an observational epidemiological study of pain through the collection of pain evaluation questionnaires and information with the aim of creating a descriptive "pain" evaluation in all patients who need to benefit from orthopedic, thoracic or gynecological surgery. The painful symptomatology will thus be evaluated in all its dimensions (demographic data, physical, psychological, socio-cultural components) and linked to the pathology justifying the specialized care. It is planned to collect the same data at each subsequent event in order to allow the determination of predictive factors, pain trajectories according to the type of surgery, and the profile of subjects at risk of acute or chronic postoperative pain.
A study to assess the safety of IMM-01 in participants with advanced solid tumors
The aim of this study is to compare the degree of change in the angle of the vocal cords before and after administration of neostigmine or sugammadex. Moreover, we intend to compare the angle of vocal folds after administration of neostigmine or sugammadex.
In the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the conversation has shifted from the complexity of ensuring decrease in infant mortality to that of holistic wellbeing of children from conception onwards by ensuring early learning opportunities along with nutrition, security and safety. About 13 - 23 percent children in Bangladesh present symptoms of diagnosable and preventable mental health conditions in early childhood. The aim of this effectiveness-implementation hybrid type 2 cluster randomized trial is to implement training program to enhance parental understanding of child's social communication and emotional development, ways to support positive behavior management skills, and to enhance parents' cognizance about when professional help may be sought. Shuchona Foundation's module-based training manual on Social Communication and Emotional Skill Development (SCESD) is designed to sensitize and educate parents/ caregivers on child development. This module will be implemented in Sonargaon, Gojaria and Raiganj Upazilas. The administrative wards in the unions will serve as clusters for the study's first phase. The first phase of six months duration will explore qualitatively the adaptability of existing health system, train field level health workers, training of the data collectors on administering Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), enrol mothers for equipping them with knowledge and skill to stimulate Early Childhood Development (ECD) and identify delayed childhood development, followed by assessment of ability of mothers to note secondary outcomes or delay at the earliest. The sessions for mother will be conducted using the existing health system of Bangladesh. A mixed-methods approach comprising of process mapping, qualitative and quantitative data analyses will be used to assess implementation of the intervention with focus on identifying failures in implementation, why they exist and how to reduce them for future implementation and scale-up.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most prevalent liver disease worldwide affecting as much as 25% of the world's population. The spectrum of NAFLD ranges from non-alcoholic fatty liver to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), the latter being associated with a progressive course towards fibrosis and a higher risk of developing cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Patients with type 2 diabetes are particularly at higher risk of developing fibrosis and advanced liver disease. Since NASH and its consequences will only occur in a minority of patients, it is of paramount importance to identify this population to offer them proper care. It is well known that there is a lack of awareness about the potential consequences of NAFLD, not only in the general population but also in the medical community. Patients with NAFLD are frequently lost during follow up and, additionally, approach to these patients is sub-optimal and heterogeneous among physicians. An attractive approach to applying best medical practices to patients with NAFLD is to generate a multicentre registry. Clinical registries comprise a set of systematic collected and stored data focused on a specific condition. The information stored in a registry provides relevant information about a disease and, through a process of error detection, ensures data quality and reliability. A NAFLD registry is an essential tool for providing relevant information such as epidemiological aspects of the disease, outcomes, and treatment effectiveness. As far as we concern, this would be the first registry of NAFLD in our region, a region where the disease behaves in a more aggressive way in comparison with other regions and hemispheres. By generating this registry, we are confident that we will obtain objective information on the characteristic of patients with NAFLD in our region, not only of the disease characteristics but also of social determinants that might influence disease outcomes. By being a prospective study, it allows an adequate patient follow up.
Poor incision healing is a common complication after abdominal surgery, mainly manifested as incision dehiscence, subcutaneous fat liquefaction, malnutrition, and incision infection. Poor healing of the incision will increase the patient's pain and prolong the patient's hospital stay, and the choice of wound treatment is closely related to the wound healing effect. Mesenchymal stem cells mainly rely on paracrine effects to exert their therapeutic effects and obtain better therapeutic effects in wound healing. Here, the pleiotropic factors secreted from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs-PFs) will be used to treat patients with poor healing after surgery to evaluate its effectiveness and safety.
Based on the available literatures, previous studies have investigated the impact of CKD and dialysis on patient's health among adult and elderly population. As far as we know, this is the first empirical study that investigates the impact of CKD on children functional capacity and their families QOL.
This is a multicenter, randomized, controlled, double-blind, phase III study.
