A Crossover Designed Study to Evaluate Effects of Microcurrent Therapy on Knee Osteoarthritis

Start date: November 2, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This crossover designed study evaluates the effects of microcurrent therapy on knee osteoarthritis. Ín a previous study patients were randomized into four different groups. Group 1 and 2 both received microcurrent therapy, but with different freqency and intensity parameters. Group 3 received treatment with the microcurrent treatment apparatus without current (sham). group 4 was a control group. In the following, present study the controll group as well as the sham group will receive the microcurrent therapy (verum).

Intraosseous With Intra-articular Injection of Platelet Rich Plasma in Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis

Start date: January 1, 2015
Phase: Early Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of treatment in three groups of patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) given a combination of intraosseous with intra-articular injection of platelet rich plasma (PRP), intra-articular injection of PRP and a single application of hyaluronic acid (HA).

NCT ID: NCT03326817 Completed - Osteoarthritis Clinical Trials

A Soft Robotics Approach Towards Finger Joint Deformities in Rheumatic Diseases

Start date: October 27, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The study is to investigate the effect of a soft robotic glove approach providing continuous passive motion of fingers (flexion and extension) on degenerative arthritis patients. The approach may help reduce pain, maintain mobility and flexibility and to improve hand function.

NCT ID: NCT03326544 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Knee Joint Osteoarthritis

Saphenous Nerve Block Versus Platelet Rich Plasma for Chronic Knee Osteoarthritis

Start date: September 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Knee osteoarthritis, as a progressive disease is one of the most common causes of pain, motor disorder and disability in the elderly. By increasing age, the cartilage is eroded and endures degenerative changes due to physiological and biomechanical changes as well as metabolic effects and trauma . Non-surgical interventions for pain control of knee osteoarthritis include weight loss, exercise, changes in daily activities, physiotherapy, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and analgesics .However ,the intra-articular injection is recently recommended by many studies such as corticosteroids, hyaluronic acid, Growth hormone, dextrose ,and platelet rich plasma. Intra-articular injection of platelets are activated and undergo degranulation, releasing a range of growth factors, including transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), insulin-like growth factor, vascular endothelial growth factors, epidermal growth factors and basic fibroblast growth factor 2. These growth factors are thought to activate a variety of signaling pathways, which promote healing of bone and soft tissue. Also, some minimally invasive therapeutic options have been effective in pain relieve in KA, such as ultrasound-guided saphenous nerve block .

NCT ID: NCT03326180 Completed - Knee Osteoarthritis Clinical Trials

Study of Peri-Articular Anaesthetic for Replacement of the Knee

SPAARK
Start date: March 29, 2018
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The clinical and cost effectiveness of peri-articular liposomal bupivacaine plus bupivacaine hydrochloride compared with bupivacaine hydrochloride alone for post-operative recovery after knee replacement surgery: A multi-centre, patient-blinded, randomised controlled trial.

NCT ID: NCT03320291 Completed - Rhizarthrosis Clinical Trials

Long-term Evaluation of Primary Trapeziectomy and Placement of a RegJoint Implant in the Treatment of Rhizarthrosis

Start date: November 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

In a society based on the use of everyday tools and objects, the loss of function of one or both thumbs due to Rhizarthrosis can drastically reduce the quality of life. Many patients are refractory to preservative treatments. Therefore, multiple arthroplasty techniques were developed. Trapeziectomy, with or without tendon interposition, gives very good results in terms of pain, function or force. However, it can result in a reduction of the size of the column of the thumb, therefore leading to a loss of force. Replacement of the trapezo-metacarpal joint with prosthetic material is also proposed and has the advantage to avoid the reduction of the thumb column. Several models are available, mono or bipolar, with a conical or hemispherical cup. Another option is the placement of implants. They were first used when a partial trapeziectomy was possible to counter the collapse of the column and are made of different materials such as metal, silicone, ceramic, pyrocarbon , and gelfoam. The bioabsorbable poly-LD-lactide implant (PLDLA) is a relatively new possibility for the reconstruction of small joints. Studies have previously revealed that the PLDLA implant is biocompatible and represents a good alternative to arthroplasty by tendon interposition in the reconstruction of the trapezo-metacarpal articulation with osteoarthritis. In this study, the investigators will investigate the long term effects (1 year after placement) of the Regjoint, a poly-LD-lactide implant (PLDLA).

NCT ID: NCT03311009 Completed - Osteoarthritis Clinical Trials

A Study With GLPG1972 in Osteoarthritis Subjects

Start date: May 15, 2017
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, stratified, ascending dose, single center study, in three semi-sequential cohorts of 10 male and female subjects of nonchildbearing potential with Osteoarthritis (OA), administered GLPG1972 or placebo. Per cohort, 10 subjects will be randomized in a 4:1 allocation ratio to active treatment with GLPG1972 or matching placebo. In each cohort, OA subjects will be stratified for age (50- 64 years and 65-75 years) with a minimum of 2 of each sex per age group.

NCT ID: NCT03308006 Completed - Knee Osteoarthritis Clinical Trials

Knee Osteoarthritis Treatment With Adipose-derived Stem Cells: Phase II Clinical Trial

Start date: January 1, 2018
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

In 1990, the prevalence of osteoarthritis of the hip or knee was very low 3.5% in Saudi Arabia, it increased to 53.3% and 60.9% in male in female patients respectively in 2002. The existing management of OA is conservative and pharmacological management aiming to relief symptoms of osteoarthritis and improves joint function. Results of a Meta-Analysis showed that mesenchymal stem cell is effectiveness and safe to treat knee osteoarthritis. In 1990, the prevalence of osteoarthritis of the hip or knee was very low 3.5% in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and it increased to 53.3% and 60.9% in male in female patients respectively in 2002. Results of a Meta-Analysis showed that mesenchymal stem cell is effectiveness and safe to treat knee osteoarthritis. This study will be a single center phase II-one arm clinical trial. It will be conducted at KF SH&RC-Jeddah. 18 participants will be recruited from orthopedic clinics. Participate will be evaluated before inclusion in the study. Participants will be exposed to e abdominal liposuction procedure under local anesthesia for stem cells harvesting. Stem cells will be separated from fat cells in the adipose tissue then activated in Tissue Culture Lab at Research Center- Jeddah. The activated stem cells will be injected into the knee joint via 22G spinal needle. The intra-articular stem cells injections will be performed under Ultrasound guidance at the theater under spinal anesthesia. Each patient will receive 1.0× 108 stem cells in 3 mL of normal saline
