Sidus(TM) Post Market Clinical Follow-up (PMCF) Study

This post market clinical follow-up study is designed to confirm safety and performance of the Sidus Stem-Free Shoulder when used in hemi or total shoulder arthroplasty. The safety of the implant will be evaluated by monitoring the frequency and incidence of all kinds of adverse events. The performance will be determined by analyzing the implant survival, overall pain and functional performances (based on Constant & Murley score and ASES score), subject quality of life (EuroQol EQ5D) and radiographic parameters (e.g. radiolucencies, osteolysis, component migration) of study subjects who received the Sidus Stem-Free Shoulder. The Sidus Stem-Free Shoulder is not approved for use in the US.

Efficacy of Exercise on Quality of Life and Physical Function in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis

The overall contribution of this study is to increase the knowledge of the efficacy of strength and aerobic exercise on knee related quality of life, knee pain, and physical function in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). Knee OA is one of the most important diseases within musculoskeletal conditions affecting a considerable number of people worldwide. This randomized controlled trial will involve one intervention group delivered strength exercises and one group delivered aerobic exercise (ergometer cycling). The two intervention groups will be compared to a control group undergoing usual care. Cost-effectiveness analysis will be performed comparing the three groups. The study is funded from The Research Council of Norway.

Fluoroscopic Analysis of PFC CR 150 Versus Standard PFC CR Total Knee Arthroplasty Implants in Deep Flexion

The investigators are comparing the range of movements the knees of patients who had total knee replacement surgery for knee osteoarthritis. In the study arm, the implant used was a Sigma Cruciate Retaining (CR) Press Fit Condylar (PFC) 150, which is a high flexion knee system designed to combine function with wear resistance. It can accommodate up to 150 degrees of knee flexion. In the cohort arm, the implant used was the standard Sigma CR which can accommodate up to 120 degrees of flexion.

In a prospective randomised study two uncemented tibial components with different polyethylene modularities (Trabecular Metal Technology (TMT) Zimmer NexGen® monobloc and TMT Zimmer NexGen® modular) used for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is evaluated. Both tibial component coatings are designed to provide excellent condition for bone ingrowth. The differences between the two tibial components are evaluated by measurements of migration of the tibial component assessed by Radiostereometric analysis (RSA) and measurements of the adaptive bone remodeling of the proximal tibial assessed by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).

Comparing Ankle Fusion to Ankle Replacement

End-stage ankle arthritis (ESAA) is a debilitating condition associated with severe pain, dysfunction, and reduced quality of life. Many patients with ESAA have difficulty walking for even 100 feet or up a single flight of stairs. Patients seeking surgery for ESAA have two primary treatment options: ankle arthrodesis (i.e., ankle fusion) and ankle arthroplasty (i.e., ankle replacement). Few studies have directly compared the effectiveness of these two procedures, and no randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have been performed. The investigators will compare the following in subjects undergoing ankle arthrodesis and ankle arthroplasty before surgery, and post-surgery at 3 and 6 months, and on an annual basis up to ten years. 1. Overall physical function and ankle specific function 2. Ankle pain intensity and interference with activities 3. Activity levels 4. Overall general health 5. Post-surgical complication rates The investigators will also identify prognostic factors that are predictive of higher physical function, ankle specific function, reduced pain, improved general health, and overall patient satisfaction.

Massachusetts General Hospital Evaluation of DePuy ASR Hip System

DePuy Orthopaedics has issued a voluntary recall of the ASR hip replacement system due to a higher than expected revision rate reported in the England/Wales and Australian national joint registries. There are two types of ASR hip implants used for total hip replacement surgery: - ASR XL Hip System - ASR Hip Resurfacing System Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston, USA is the study sponsor. MGH is conducting this study with the help of funding from DePuy Orthopaedics. MGH will collect and analyze clinical information from 5,000 subjects around the world. The countries include the United States of America, Australia, South Africa, England, Denmark, Finland and Sweden. MGH will collect and analyze blood test results, X-rays, soft tissue imaging and how well the ASR hips are functioning. MGH will analyze the data annually for 6 years. The purpose of this study is to follow patients who have the ASR hip system for the next 6 years. The findings of this study may help surgeons to make better informed decisions about monitoring and treatment of patients with ASR hip systems.

TXA and EACA have been reported to reduce blood loss in cardiac and neuro surgery, but there is no literature available comparing the two in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The investigators want to determine if TXA or EACA compared with placebo are effective and safe for blood loss prevention in TKA by comparing blood loss, transfusion rates, and total cost.
