Filter by:This study will evaluate the safety and tolerability of a single intra-articular administration of ART-I02 (AAV5.NF-kB.IFN-β), a recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) type 2/5 vector in subjects with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) or Osteoarthritis (OA) and active arthritis of the carpometacarpal (CMC), metacarpophalangeal (MCP), proximal interphalangeal (PIP), or distal interphalangeal (DIP) joints.
This is an observational study that evaluates the characteristics of Platelet Rich Plasma used in the therapy and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and degenerative joint diseases. A sample of the PRP will be tested for platelet and microparticle content using dynamic light scattering to determine if there is a relationship between the composition and the treatment outcome.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in conjunction with transcranial ultrasound (TUS) on pain perception and functional limitations in people with osteoarthritis of the knee. The investigators hypothesize that there will be a decrease in pain levels with active stimulation, when compared to sham stimulation.
It is a controlled clinical trial randomized, double-blind evaluator. Will be considered eligible patients, individuals of both sexes, aged 40 -60, to submit at least four items of knee osteoarthrosis classification criteria, according to the American College of Rheumatology, pain above four points in the visual analogue scale (VAS), diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis and who sought physical therapy treatment. Patients will be randomized by a number sequence generated by a computer using Microsoft Excel (Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, Washington), in opaque envelopes by researcher who will not attend the study.Patients will be divided into two groups: group with knee patellar hole or group without knee patellar hole. Shortly after the selection of the knee, the patient will have his eyes blind or cover in order to keep it '' blind '' regarding the type of knee brace that it would use. Finally evaluator 1 will cover the knee with a black cloak, making the second evaluator ''blind '' regarding the type of knee brace that will be used. Two investigators will carry out the data collection. The first evaluator will collect information on the clinical characteristics of patients, including evaluation form, numerical pain scale, which measures the intensity of pain, test Time Up and Go (TUG) test that measures the basic mobility of movement and test walking eight meters, whose purpose is to measure the time that the individual takes to walk a distance of eight meters.
Adults with degenerative meniscal tear receiving arthroscopic surgical management or knee drainage (arthrocentesis) +/- intra-articular steroid injection will be recruited to this non-interventional cohort study. The aim is to investigate whether measurement of an individual's synovial fluid biomarker response to a degenerative meniscal tear with symptoms predicts symptomatic and functional outcome suggestive of osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee.
This is a two-armed randomised controlled pilot study that investigates the component efficacy of moxibustion for osteoarthritis of the knee. Participants will be randomised to receive either warm needle acupuncture or needle acupuncture. Participants and acupuncturists will be blinded to group allocation. The primary and secondary outcome measures are WOMAC and SF36 respectively. Qualitative interviews will be used to gather information on the patients' experiences and perceptions of the trial and the treatment provided. It is hypothesised that warm needle acupuncture will lead to a greater reduction in clinical signs and symptoms than needle acupuncture.
Shoulder arthroplasty is a reliable procedure for the treatment of severe shoulder joint diseases to relieve pain and restore shoulder function. Shoulder implants commonly used are characterised by a humeral stem and complications related to the stem are not infrequent. These include: bone stock loss, intraoperative and postoperative break around the implant, malpositioning of the humeral component and difficult eradication of infections inside the bone around the implant. With the aim of reducing stem-related complications, a novel prosthesis characterised by a stem-less design has been developed. The objective of this study is therefore to explore how well people recover after shoulder replacement with this novel stem-less shoulder prosthesis. This will be assessed over 5 years in three different countries in Europe using patient completed questionnaires and clinical and radiographic assessments.
This observational study seeks to identify and validate novel soluble biomarkers (within blood, synovial fluid, urine) which contribute to the prognostic assessment of an individual with an acute knee injury, a group of individuals in which ~50% will progress to symptomatic radiographic knee osteoarthritis (OA). 150 individuals will be followed over 5 years with clinical assessment including validated questionnaires, biological sampling and radiological imaging (X ray, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)).
Osteoarthritis is a condition that causes joints in the human body to deteriorate over time. This condition affects more than 250 million people around the globe. Currently, the goal of treating osteoarthritis involves reducing the severity and pain that results from the disease. The ultimate goal of this study is to identify patients with pre-arthritic joints (before symptoms or disease characteristics appear) in an effort to find and use treatments that stop or slow the disease. Joints are filled with a naturally occurring liquid known as synovial fluid. Molecules (biomarkers) and genetic expression of various cell types within synovial joint fluid may serve as measures of onset and progression of osteoarthritis. These samples have the potential to improve diagnosis, classification, and treatment, possibly changing the natural history of this debilitating disease. The purpose of this study is to develop a collection of synovial fluid samples from the shoulder, hip and knee for the analysis of biomarkers and cellular and genetic components therein to better understand the pre-arthritic joint, progression to disease, and response to interventions.
