Filter by:We aimed to evaluate chewing function (CF) in children with neuromuscular disorders, and investigate reliability of the Karaduman Chewing Performance Scale (KCPS).
The main objective will be to determine the effectiveness of home non-invasive ventilation by flow-time and time-pressure curves analysis in a cohort of patients with this treatment by digital diagnosis platform.
A Quality work was conducted to enable the future construction of a Quality of Life Questionnaire Related to Health (HRQoL) in patients with slowly progressive neuromuscular disease (NMD) as myopathies and muscular dystrophies. The discussion group training is an effective method to perform a thorough investigation of aspects of HRQoL potentially altered by NMD. Patients were recruited in France by 4 reference centers MNMs. All verbal interactions between participants focus groups were recorded. A qualitative analysis of the transcript was performed. The transcript provided 2424 CIF categories. The results helped to identify and quantify aspects of life that are altered by NMDs between patients. A pool of 64 items and a validated questionnaire (the WHOQOLBREF) were thern passed by 159 patients enrolled in eight reference centers MNMs. The investigators constructed a questionnaire called QoLNMD which is composed of two general items and 24 items classified into three areas: (1) \ Impact bodily symptoms, "(2) \ Self-perception" and (3) \ Activity participation. "Each area has good psychometric properties (Cronbach's alpha> 0.77, test-retest ICC> 0.81, H Loevinger> 0.41) and met the assumptions of IRT. the comparison with the WHOQOL-BREF was used to assess similarities and differences with a generic questionnaire. The next step was to validate the QoLNMD reassessing its psychometric properties in a new patient sample and calibrate the IRT measurement system. The purpose of these new part of study was to validate the French version of the QoL-NMD on a confirmatory sample of patients and to calibrate its measurement system. A prospective study in 8 NMD referral centers (France) was conducted. Both the QoL-NMD and a validated generic questionnaire (the WHOQOLBREF) were administered to patients. 156 patients were included for the confirmatory psychometric analysis. All three domains showed adequate psychometric properties and met IRT assumptions. The IRT model calibration was then performed successfully on 315 patients. The French version of the QoL-NMD showed adequate psychometric properties and can be used in rehabilitation services. A conversion table enables easy transformation of sum scores into IRT-calibrated measures. Minimum detectable change tables help interpreting score change.
The purpose of the study is to compare the the efficacy and tolerance of 2 cough assistance techniques requiring no equipment other than the volumetric fan. The two methods are air-stacking and hyperinflation . The study is a Cross-over, monocentric and open label study
Measurements of dysphagia severity are important when making management decisions and in the objective evaluation of swallowing impairments. The Sydney Swallow Questionnaire (SSQ) is a validated self-report inventory using a visual analogue scale. This questionnaire permits a quantitative, sensitive, specific, repeatable and easily responsive evaluation of dysphagia in different pathology. Opposed to largely used videofluoroscopy swallowing study and endoscopy examinations, the SSQ is noninvasive, less expensive, avoids radiation exposure and enables a readily available assessment. Validated French version is not yet available. In the first phase of the study the investigators will validated this translation in dysphagic patients and control. Secondly, the investigators will validate the SSQ in Neuromuscular patients.
The purpose of this study is to identify genetic or other factors in the subjects blood that may predispose them to getting a particular disease or tell researchers how the disease will behave, for example how fast it will progress or what areas of the body might be affected. A second goal is to relate such factors to how such a condition affects the subjects clinically as well as how it affects the electrical functions of nerves and muscles.
Patients with NMD can suffer from a range of respiratory problems due to respiratory muscle weakness. Cough muscle weakness worsens secretion clearance from the airways, and increases the risk of infection. As a result, these patients often require chest physiotherapy or are supported with devices to aid clearance (such as mechanical insufflation-exsufflation) to reduce the risk of infection. Although evidence supports the use of these devices, the optimal technique or settings on the device are not clear. Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a new technology that involves wearing a belt of sensors around the chest that provides information on how well the lungs are being filled with air. It allows a non-invasive assessment of the effect of each secretion clearance technique on lung ventilation in real-time. This study aims to compare how well the lung is filled with air between three different techniques for secretion clearance (clearing mucus and phlegm from the airways), in order to determine which of the techniques is the most effective, in patients with NMD.
Different tools may be used to monitor the efficacy of home mechanical ventilation. Investigators aimed to compare the prognostic value of the different data obtained by capno-oxymetry in a mechanical ventilated neuromuscular disease's population.
Neuromuscular diseases (NMD) are characterized by a reduced maximum insufflation capacity (MIC), which contributes to increased morbidity and mortality from respiratory diseases. Techniques such as glossopharyngeal breathing (GPB) and insufflation using a manual resuscitation bag, or "air stacking (AS)", can be used to increase the MIC. These techniques employ different mechanisms, and the ability to learn the technique plays a key role in its proper implementation and effectiveness. The objective is compare the effects of AS and GPB on the MIC in patients with NMD. Children and adolescents with NMD who were users of non-invasive mechanical ventilation were recruited. Vital capacity (VC) and MIC were measured prior to and after the intervention with AS and GPB. Values were compared pre- and post-intervention and were considered statistically significant if p <0.05.
The use of low-dose CBP dosed nightly at bedtime for FM was supported by the results of Tonix' TNX-CY-F202 Phase 2b study (also referred to as the BESTFIT Study). The TNX-CY-F202 study provided strong evidence that TNX-102 SL 2.8 mg dosed nightly results in beneficial effects upon pain, sleep and other FM symptomatology. The present trial is designed to assess the safety and efficacy of TNX-102 SL 2.8 mg tablets, taken daily at bedtime over 12 weeks to treat fibromyalgia.
