Filter by:This is a Phase I/II study to investigate the feasibility of creating a personalized therapeutic cancer vaccine within the body. A vaccine contains a source of tumor antigen and an adjuvant. In this study, tumor antigen is generated by freezing a tumor by a minimally invasive percutaneous (through the skin) cryoablation procedure. The study drug, AlloStim, is injected into the ablated tumor to promote development of an anti-tumor immune response.
Lung metastasectomy is the only therapeutic option to provide a long-survival in patients with colorectal lung metastases. Recent studies have shown that radiofrequency (RF) ablation is a safe and useful therapeutic option for the treatment of unresectable lung metastases. In this phase-II trial, clinical utility of lung RF ablation will be evaluated in patients with resectable colorectal lung metastases.
PX-12 (1-methylpropyl 2-imidazolyl disulfide) is a novel small molecule inhibitor of thioredoxin-1, a small protein over-expressed in many human cancers that is associated with aggressive tumor proliferation, angiogenesis, and drug resistance. This study is being conducted to determine the maximally tolerated dose of PX-12 delivered as a 72-hour infusion over days 1, 2, and 3 of a 21-day cycle in patients with advanced or metastatic cancer.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the safety and efficacy of simultaneous liver resections compared to staged hepatectomies of rectal cancer with liver metastasis and to compare the short and long-term survival between the two groups.

Sorafenib™ has the potential to inhibit tumor growth, tumor angiogenesis , and enhance radiation response. This study will test the combination of Sorafenib™ and radiation therapy with or without temozolomide to determine tolerance of the combined treatments. Defining safe dosing of Sorafenib™ in this combination therapy will be achieved.
The ROSORC trial is a randomized study comparing the efficacy of a new association (sorafenib and IL-2) versus the standard therapy (sorafenib) in patients affected by different histotypes of metastatic RCC. This study is a first line therapy for the advanced disease. The primary objective is the progression free survival (PFS) in the 2 arms of therapy and the secondary objective is the overall survival (OS) and the response rate (RR) and the safety profile of the combination compared to sorafenib alone.
The goal of this clinical research study is to find the highest tolerable dose of dasatinib and Zometa (zoledronic acid) that can be given in combination for the treatment of breast cancer that has spread to the bone. The safety and effectiveness of this combination will also be studied.
We hypothesize that micronutrient fortified probiotic yogurt can improve nutritional status and enhance immunity parameters in subjects HIV/AIDS and other immunodeficiencies. We have developed a micronutrient-fortified probiotic yogurt that has safe and beneficial levels of micronutrients for human consumption. This has been undertaken with the guidance of Edward Farnworth, a senior research scientist at Agri-Food Canada-Food Research and Development Centre, St. Hyacinthe, Quebec We will now measure nutritional parameters (height, weight, serum albumin, serum nutrient levels, blood urea, liver function tests (AST, ALT)) to determine if there is a statistically significant difference between the various levels of fortified probiotic yogurt and the placebo on the nutritional parameters of the subjects consuming the yogurt. We will measure immunological parameters (CD4 lymphocyte count, CBC, levels of TNFα, IL-12, IL-10, and G-CSF [Kim, et.al. 2006]) in order to determine if there is a statistically significant difference using fortified probiotic yogurt compared to a placebo. In addition, we will determine if the micronutrient-fortified probiotic yogurt has a significant impact on the overall quality of life for the subjects using the "linear analogue self assessment" tool [Kaiser, et.al 2006].
