RATIONALE: Antiemetic drugs, such as aprepitant, ondansetron, and dexamethasone, may help lessen or prevent nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing a stem cell transplant. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying aprepitant, ondansetron, and dexamethasone to see how well they work compared to placebo, ondansetron, and dexamethasone in preventing nausea and vomiting in patients who are undergoing a stem cell transplant.

Acupressure and Relaxation for Nausea Control

This study hypothesizes that patients receiving efficacy enhancing information about the acupressure bands will expect less treatment-related nausea, which will subsequently result in less treatment-related nausea compared to patients who do not receive such information. This study extends prior research by utilizing a randomized controlled trial in a clinical environment to examine the efficacy of an intervention that is specifically designed to reduce patients' response expectancies concerning nausea development from cancer treatments, and, thereby, reduce nausea. The objectives of this study are as follow: 1. To provide preliminary data on whether a two-tiered strategy to increase patients' expectancies for nausea prevention and/or management will result in reduced chemotherapy-induced nausea. 2. To provide preliminary data on whether a two-tiered strategy to increase patients' expectancies for nausea prevention and/or management will result in increased health-related quality of life (HRQL) in patients receiving emetogenic chemotherapy. To provide preliminary data on whether a two-tiered strategy to increase patients' expectancies for nausea prevention and/or management is more effective than a single-tiered strategy in reducing chemotherapy- induced nausea.

A Study of Kytril (Granisetron) in the Prevention of Post-Operative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV) in Pediatric Subjects Undergoing Tonsillectomy or Adenotonsillectomy

This 2 arm study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of a single intravenous injection of Kytril in preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in children. Patients will be randomized to receive a single dose of either 20 micrograms or 40 micrograms Kytril intravenously (iv) 15 minutes prior to the end of surgery with general anesthesia for tonsillectomy or adenotonsillectomy. The anticipated time on study treatment is <3 months, and the planned sample size was 170 patients.

Nexium Study To Suppress Nausea During Chemotherapy

This study will look at a drug called esomeprazole, the newest PPI, as a way to further reduce the amount of nausea and vomiting seen in breast cancer patients receiving adriamycin or epirubicin chemotherapy. Esomeprazole may help protect the gut lining from the stomach acid and thus lessen the nausea and vomiting. If patients have less stomach sickness, they may be able to enjoy their daily routines much more while they are getting chemotherapy.
