Ibrutinib for the Treatment of COVID-19 in Patients Requiring Hospitalization

This phase Ib/II trial studies the side effects and best dose of ibrutinib and how well it works in treating patients with COVID-19 requiring hospitalization. Ibrutinib may help improve COVID-19 symptoms by lessening the inflammatory response in the lungs, while preserving overall immune function. This may reduce the need to be on a ventilator to help with breathing.

Infliximab and Intravenous Immunoglobulin Therapy in Treating Patients With Steroid-Refractory Pneumonitis

This phase II trial studies how well infliximab and intravenous immunoglobulin therapy work in treating patients with pneumonitis that does not respond to steroid treatment. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies such as, infliximab, may induce changes in body's immune system and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Intravenous immunoglobulin therapy may improve pneumonitis. It is not yet known whether giving infliximab and intravenous immunoglobulin therapy will work better in treating patients with pneumonitis.

Accelerated resolution therapy is an evidence-based therapy for the treatment of depressive symptoms, trauma, and stress-related disorders. This study may provide evidence to support integration of accelerated resolution therapy into psychological treatment of cancer patients, which may decrease cancer related trauma and distress.

Both apps provide tools to cope with urges to smoke, step-by-step guides for quitting smoking, help in planning for quitting and staying tobacco-free, and scientifically-based recommendations for how to select medications that aid in smoking cessation.

Monoclonal antibodies, such as infliximab or vedolizumab, may help to treat immunotherapy induced colitis/diarrhea. This study may help to identify the optimal treatment strategy for immune checkpoint inhibitor-related colitis in patients with genitourinary cancer or melanoma.

Rintatolimod and IFN Alpha-2b for the Treatment of COVID-19 in Cancer Patients

This phase I/IIa trial studies the best dose and side effects of rintatolimod and interferon (IFN) alpha-2b in treating cancer patients with COVID-19 infection. Interferon alpha is a protein important for defense against viruses. It activates immune responses that help to clear viral infection. Rintatolimod is double stranded ribonucleic acid (RNA) designed to mimic viral infection by stimulating immune pathways that are normally activated during viral infection. Giving rintatolimod and interferon alpha-2b may activate the immune system to limit the replication and spread of the virus.

Tocilizumab for Patients With Cancer and COVID-19 Disease

This phase II expanded access trial will study how well tocilizumab works in reducing the serious symptoms including pneumonitis (severe acute respiratory distress) in patients with cancer and COVID-19. COVID-19 is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. COVID-19 can be associated with an inflammatory response by the immune system which may also cause symptoms of COVID-19 to worsen. This inflammation may be called "cytokine storm," which can cause widespread problems in the body. Tocilizumab is a medicine designed to block the action of a protein called interleukin-6 (IL-6) that is involved with the immune system and is known to be a key factor for problems with excessive inflammation. Tocilizumab is effective in treating "cytokine storm" from a type of cancer immunotherapy and may be effective in reducing the inflammatory response and "cytokine storm" seen in severe COVID-19 disease. Treating the inflammation may help to reduce symptoms, improve the ability to breathe without a breathing machine (ventilator), and prevent patients from having more complications.
