Willkommen Mutterglück: Online CBT for Pregnant and Postpartum Women With Depression and Anxiety

This intervention study aims to evaluate the effectivity of web-based cognitive therapy in reducing depression and anxiety in pregnant and postpartum women. Moreover, it aims to assess treatment feasibility and usability of the treatment in the same population. After an initial screening to determine the eligibility to participate, all participants fulfilling the inclusion criteria will receive their personal access login in order to start the intervention.

Predicting SSRI Efficacy in Veterans With PTSD

This is a research study to examine the effectiveness of a brief screening method that may predict which people with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or depression are most likely to show a positive response to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) medications. Participants will be recruited over approximately 5.25 years, until at least 94 participants complete the 17 week study.

The diagnosis of major depression relies on patient reports, and two patients with the same diagnosis might share only one symptom. Thus, a single mechanism is unlikely to underlie a broad descriptive diagnosis such as major depression. Our approach is anchored by a neural circuit taxonomy that proposes distinct biotypes of depression derived from functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) (Williams et al., 2016). In this study, we aim to target a putative type of major depression that arises from dysfunction in cognitive control neural circuitry with a drug called guanfacine.

Comparison of the Efficacy, Safety, and Relapse of ECT to ECT Plus Agomelatine for Depressed Patients

Our hypothesis is that using antidepressants during the ECT has a better efficacy and longer time to relapse/recurrence to the ECT without antidepressants. The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy, safety, and time to relapse/recurrence of ECT to ECT plus agomelatine in the treatment of patients with major depressive disorder. Inpatients with major depressive disorder for ECT will be randomly assigned to double-blind treatment with placebo or agomelatine 50 mg/d.

Spectral Correlation Coefficient-determine TMS for Depression

This study will investigate the feasibility, safety, and tolerability of administering repetitive Transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS) at frequencies other than standard 10 Hz. This study will enroll 10 subjects who will undergo one quantitative electroencephalograph, one TMS procedure to determine the appropriate frequency and intensity for treatment, weekly mood/symptom assessments, and up to 30 TMS treatments. Subjects will be asked to participate for up to 6 weeks.

A Longitudinal Study of Inflammatory Pathways in Depression

Suicide accounts for at least 1 million deaths globally each year. This is likely a significant underestimate, because suicide is under-reported in many countries. In the US, over 42,000 people die from suicide annually. Despite increased focus on identification and treatment, the rate of suicide has increased steadily over the past 15 years. Our project aims both to improve our understanding of factors that increase the risk for suicide by comparing blood biomarkers associated with inflammation in patients with depression without suicidal behavior and patients with depression and suicidal behavior. The 160 individuals in this study will be followed with psychiatric assessments and blood samples at repeated time points over one year.

An Investigation of the Relationship Between Omega-3 Fatty Acid Nutrition and Mental Health in Children and Adolescents

This is an observational case-control add-on study to an investigator-initiated clinical trial (IICT) (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03167307): Omega-3 fatty acids as firstline treatment in pediatric depression. A 36-week multi-centre, double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized superiority study. This project will recruit a healthy control group matched for age and sex to a sub-group of patients with diagnosed pediatric major depressive disorder (pMDD) enrolled in the IICT. The aim is to investigate the relationship of n-3 FA intake and status with mental health in children and adolescents with and without diagnosed pMDD, and explore potential biochemical mechanisms underlying this relationship by measuring biomarkers related to n-3 FA metabolism, mental health and cognitive function.

The Role of PKC Activation in the Immune-inflammatory Mechanism of Major Depressive Depression

Major Depressive disorder (MDD) is a heterogeneous mental illness. Treated with antidepressants that act on the neurotransmitter and/or their receptors just remitted only one third of patients with MDD, Thus, to improve the efficacy is a major unmet need for depression. Based on the scientific reports, inflammation plays a definite role in the development and treatment of depression, which may be an important way to understand and finally solve the problem. Our team found that there were significant changes in tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and other inflammatory factors in depressed patients, which caused neuronal apoptosis and depressive symptoms; PRKCB1(gene of protein kinase C-β) plays an anti-inflammatory role by regulating protein kinase C(PKC) activation in specific brain region, improving neuroplasticity and playing an antidepressant role. In this study, we assumes that the treatment-resistant depression patients maybe due to the immune inflammation and PKC activation inconsistency or unsynchronized, which couldn't reversible microglia polarization and neuronal apoptosis in specific brain regions, then, caused the significant changes at emotional and cognitive neural circuits, so as to exhibit such as emotional, cognitive symptoms of depression. Therefore, activating PKC and regulating immune/inflammatory process will be another way to improve the treatment outcome of depression. Take consideration, we focus on treatment-resistant depression patients, to validate the relationship between PKC activation and the immune inflammatory mechanism of depression, evaluate the antidepressant effect of golimumab or calcium tablet (a PKC activator) plus escitalopram, and initially proposes idividualized treatment strategies for MDD.
