A Study of Fluoxetine in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) Long-Term Dosing

This study will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of fluoxetine flexible dosing in the treatment of MDD in adult Japanese participants. Participants who complete the short-term treatment phase of Study B1Y-JE-HCLV (NCT#: NCT01808612) will be allowed to enroll in this study, and receive fluoxetine treatment for an additional 52 weeks.

rTMS for Depressed Teens: A Sham-Controlled Trial, Part 2

This research proposal aims to better understand the neurobiology of depression in adolescents and how repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) may therapeutically impact brain function and mood. This investigation also proposes the first study to examine the efficacy of rTMS maintenance therapy in adolescents who have met clinical criteria following acute rTMS treatment. The magnetic resonance (MR) spectroscopy pattern of rTMS response will be analyzed according to previously established protocols.

This study will be the first to use a randomized, double-blinded, sham-controlled approach to the investigation of rTMS therapy for depressed adolescents. Effects of Early Abuse on Adult Intimate Relationships

This study is designed to help us better understand the factors that affect the sexual lives of women who have been sexually mistreated during childhood. With this study we hope to learn about factors that may be promising targets for future treatments of sexual problems related to past sexual experiences. The investigators hypothesize that women who have experienced early sexual abuse are more likely to have sexual problems in adulthood than women who were not abuse in childhood.

Neurobiological Bases of Placebo Response in Major Depressive Disorder

We are doing this research study to find out if people who get better while taking a specific kind of antidepressant medication (a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, or SSRI) and people who get better while taking placebo (an inactive substance) have similar chemicals in their brains. Some participants may complete a procedure called Acute Tryptophan Depletion (ATD), which is a way to study the role of serotonin in depression. Some participants may also undergo a magnetic resonance-positron emission tomography (MR-PET) scan.

Systematic Genetic Analysis of Phenomenology and Treatment Response in Mood Disorders

The primary goals of this work are: a) to establish a unique collection of mood disorder patients across the life cycle, including children, adults and geriatric patients, with well-defined medical co-morbidities and medication treatment outcomes at the University Hospitals Case Medical Center Department of Psychiatry; b) to establish a collection of nuclear families, including both mothers and fathers, of children diagnosed with mood disorders; c) to perform a systematic genetic analysis of the proposed sample repository to identify genes and genetic variants contributing to inter-patient variability in clinical phenotypes and treatment responses. Our primary hypothesis is that genetic variations may underlie individual variability in disease susceptibility, clinical phenotypes and treatment safety, tolerability, and effectiveness.
