Autologous Mesenchymal Stem Cell Transplantation in Cirrhosis Patients With Refractory Ascites

Start date: May 2013
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Liver cirrhosis (LC) is the final destiny in chronic liver disease. The quality of life in liver cirrhosis patients with refractory ascites are very wretched. The objective of this study is to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of autologous bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) transplantation via liver artery in Child-Pugh B and C stage of liver cirrhosis patients with refractory ascites. The immunomodulatory impact of MSCs in fibrosis was confirmed, and several clinical studies have applied MSCs to eliminate the progression of fibrosis. In this research the investigators will study the affect and influence of MSCs in the patients, include assay of liver function, variation of ascites,Child-Pugh score etc.

NCT ID: NCT01708733 Completed - Liver Function Clinical Trials

NCT ID: NCT00962195 Completed - Insulin Resistance Clinical Trials

The Effect of Purple Sweet Potato (PSP)-Juice on Liver Enzymes and Blood Pressure

Start date: June 2009
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Purple Sweet Potato juice (PSP-juice) is a juice based on purple-fleshed sweet potato concentrate, containing a high level of anthocyanins. Purple-fleshed sweet potatoes have attracted attention to industry and scientists due to multiple physiological functions such as radical-scavenging, ACE-inhibitory and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities in vitro, and also hepato-protective, antihypertensive and antihyperglycemic effects in vivo. Previous studies in Japanese subjects showed potential beneficial effects of PSP beverages on liver function and blood pressure in volunteers with impaired hepatic function and/or hypertension. The main objective of this study is to examine the effect of PSP-juice on liver enzymes and blood pressure. The secondary objective is to examine the effects of PSP-juice juice on insulin resistance.

NCT ID: NCT00774098 Completed - Liver Function Clinical Trials

Improving Glycogen Liver Content Will Improve Post-operative Liver Function in Patients Undergoing Major Liver Resections

Start date: January 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

We would like to study the effect of preserving liver glycogen storage by using intravenous dextrose infusion on postoperative liver function and complications after major liver resections.

NCT ID: NCT00283972 Active, not recruiting - Inflammation Clinical Trials

LAP-BAND Observational Cohort

Start date: June 2005
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Observational

To prospectively observe the association of the LAP-BAND procedure on quality of life, anthropometric, metabolic and biochemical parameters in morbidly obese patients when performed by experienced US surgeons. The study will also include a complete economic analysis of the LAP-BAND procedure and follow-up costs Hypothesis: Measurements defining quality of life and the severity of obesity and obesity related comorbidities improve significantly over baseline with the LAP-BAND System treatment at 6 and 12 months post surgery when performed by an experienced surgeon.
