[18F]FMISO PET/CT After Transcatheter Arterial Embolization in Imaging Tumors in Patients With Liver Cancer

This clinical trial studies how well 18F-fluoromisonidazole ([18F]FMISO) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) works after transcatheter arterial embolization in imaging tumors in patients with liver cancer. Transcatheter arterial embolization blocks blood flow to tumor cells by inserting tiny foreign particles into an artery near the tumor. [18F]FMISO is a type of radioimaging agent that binds to large molecules in tumor cells that have a low level of oxygen, and the radiation given off by [18F]FMISO is picked up by a PET scan and this may help researchers learn whether changes occur in the tumors after treatment, which can help decide how well the treatment worked earlier than is currently possible

Natural History of Liver Cirrhosis Diagnosed by Transient Elastography in HIV/HCV-coinfected Patients

Prospective multicenter cohort recruiting consecutive patients from 7 hospitals in Andalusia, southern Spain, according to following criteria: 1) HIV infection, 2) Chronic active HCV infection, 3) Older than 18 years, 4) New diagnosis of liver cirrhosis on the basis of a liver stiffness above 14 kiloPascals, 5) No previous or concomitant decompensation of liver disease. Patients are prospectively followed-up according to a uniform protocol of care. Epidemiological, clinical and laboratory variables are periodically recorded. The primary outcomes are the emergence of a liver decompensation (including hepatocellular carcinoma), liver transplant or death. The predictors of these outcomes are analyzed.

The International Imaging Registry in Liver Cirrhosis (BAVENO-VI SPSS GROUP).

The purpose of this study is to perform a multicentre registry of cirrhotic patients who had been submitted to an imagining technique in recent years (angio-CT scan or abdominal MRI), in order to collect anatomical and clinical information. The main objective will be focused on the study of portosystemic shunts and their relation with portal hypertension. Patient with liver cirrhosis submitted to an abdominal angio-CT scan or a MRI from year 2010 to 2014 will be included in the study. The chosen imaging technique will be angio-CT preferably, but MRI data will also be available. Patients will be identified in every hospital by means of the registry of coded diagnoses and the lists of complementary tests performed. Clinical and radiological data of every patient will be collected. The clinical variables will be obtained from reviewing the patient clinical history. The radiological parameters will be gathered by means of the systematic review of the angio-CT or MRI.

Several noninvasive radiological techniques have been investigated for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis among patients with chronic infection with hepatitis B virus or hepatitis C virus. Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) is a particularly appealing method for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis. The aims of this study are to evaluate the accuracy of DW-MRI in patients with chronic viral hepatitis for determining the stage of liver fibrosis.

Multicenter Prospective Randomized Trial of the Effect of Rivaroxaban on Survival and Development of Complications of Portal Hypertension in Patients With Cirrhosis

The main objective of the study will determine if patients with liver cirrhosis, anticoagulation free survival improves hypertension decompensation portal and / or transplantation without serious side effects. For it is conduct a double-blind multicenter clinical trial in which patients will be randomized to receive Rivaroxaban or placebo. It included 160 patients with liver cirrhosis and insufficiency mild to moderate hepatic. It will also analyze and develop secondary endpoint portal vein thrombosis. The confirmation of our hypothesis would lead to a radical change in treatment of patients with cirrhosis include treatment with Rivaroxaban in its drove.

Methocarbamol in Treatment of Muscle Cramps in Cirrhotic Patients

Muscle cramps markedly affect the quality of life in cirrhotic patients with no highly effective drug. Methocarbamol is a central muscle relaxant used to treat skeletal muscle spasms. The mechanism of action of methocarbamol is currently unknown, but may involve the inhibition of carbonic anhydrase. Methocarbamol has a high therapeutic index, i.e. a wide range of safe and effective dosages.
