Filter by:The purpose of this study is to see how a diet that supplements fermented foods effects inflammation and quality of life in patients with mild to moderate Ulcerative Colitis (UC). There is a paucity of research and an enormous need for better understanding of diet and intestinal inflammation. Fermented food have been shown to positively influence inflammatory cytokines and intestinal microbial diversity in healthy volunteers.
This is a 2-arm randomized trial aimed at leveraging behavioral science principles to improve patient engagement between office visits among patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
The rapid spread of COVID-19 is expected to have a significant impact on medicine as well as all sectors worldwide. In particular, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic immune disease in which remission and activation are repeated and must be treated consistently throughout life. In addition, patients with IBD may be vulnerable to various infectious diseases due to the immuno-compromised state due to the use of immuno-suppressants or biological agents. During a pandemic, patients with IBD may postpone hospital visits due to concerns about infection with COVID-19, and if they cannot continue drug treatment, there is a concern about the flare up IBD disease activity. Therefore, in this study, we would like to investigate the current status of hospital utilization of IBD patients in Daegu, the epidemic area of COVID-19, and to investigate the effect of patient perception of COVID-19 on hospital ultilization.
Periodontal diseases are highly prevalent inflammatory diseases. It is now well known that they are correlated with numerous systemic diseases as : diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, metabolic syndrome or rheumatoid arthritis. Recently, periodontal diseases have been correlated with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). IBD include two types, Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis. It could be a significant risk factor for the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. These diseases present common features : a high prevalence worldwide, multifactorial pathogenies with common mechanisms. To date, no study has linked activity of IBD and periodontal diseases. The authors hypotheses that the prevalence of periodontal diseases could be increased in patient presenting an active IBD
Researchers at Seattle Children's Research Institute want to find ways to understand gastrointestinal disease such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Graft-Versus-Host-Disease (GVHD). We want to compare healthy cells from the gastrointestinal tract to cells from people with gastrointestinal diseases. The investigators are looking for healthy participants 18-25 with no gastrointestinal symptoms to volunteer to have an upper and lower endoscopy and to collect blood and stool samples. The investigators hope the information gathered in this study will help to better predict and treat these diseases in the future. Participants who join the study will complete the following activities: 1 hour appointment at Seattle Children's Hospital to determine eligibility Blood Draw Upper and Lower Endoscopy with tissue biopsies Stool Sample collection Participants will get $600 to thank them for their time. Participants may be eligible for this study if they meet the following requirements: 18 -25 years of age Do not have any abdominal symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea or abdominal pain) Are not on any medications (vitamins and birth control are OK) Have a BMI (body mass index) between 20-25 kg/m^2 Please note: Interested participants will have a 30 minute phone call with the study team and subsequent 1 hour appointment at Seattle Children's to determine if they meet all of the eligibility criteria.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of Samyama program on blood levels of selected neurotransmitters before and after the program, and associate with corresponding effects on mind/psyche before and after the program in adult participants. Hypothesis: 1. The state of higher consciousness and ecstasy resulting from Samyama result from increased levels of Anandamide, an endocannabinoid, and Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF). 2. The 60-day preparatory phase that includes dietary regulation and yogic practices will reduce the gut inflammation and thereby will improve the gut microbiome.
To construct a standardized stepped nutritional treatment process for inpatients with inflammatory bowel disease, including nutritional risk screening and assessment, standardized nutritional treatment implementation, therapeutic effect follow-up and monitoring, family nutritional treatment follow-up, etc.
Delivery of healthcare has been traditionally limited to in-person visits or hospitalizations, while patients spend the majority of their time at home or work. Digital Medicine (e.g. apps, remote monitoring, telemedicine, patient reported outcomes) has the potential to bridge this gap, but the question remains as to how to translate it to mainstream practice while providing individualized recommendations to improve population health across organizations. Through the creation of a Digital Transformation Network (DTN) for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), the study team plans to reduce digital disparities and scientifically test the impact of these technologies in a clinical trial in three CTSA sites catering to diverse populations and communities.
Multicenter cohort of patients followed for 6 months during the pandemic in France with biocollection of sera and peripheral blood mononuclear cells
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has become a more prominent disease in the US population, with more than 3 million adults in the US affected. To manage this disease effectively, physicians tend to need to have a multidisciplinary approach as there are many psychosocial implications of chronic gastrointestinal illnesses like Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis. Recent literature has supported the desire for telemedicine and remote physiologic monitoring for such patients to allow the patient to be more active in their treatments and make physicians more aware of what their bodies are doing from a physiologic perspective. Whoop is a new device founded in 2011 that has grown in popularity for its ability to accurately measure sleep patterns, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability (HRV) amongst other various physiologic measurements. Newer literature supports that depressed heart rate variability can correlate to disease flares such as heart failure exacerbations. The study investigators proposed that using remote physiologic monitoring in the IBD population along with their symptoms can help predict disease severity and potentially lead to earlier interventions if correlations are accurate. It can also spark interest in the younger generation for remote physiologic monitoring and telemedicine, which is believed to be beneficial in patients with chronic illnesses.
