NCT ID: NCT05906043 Recruiting - Fatigue Clinical Trials

A Multidisciplinary Approach to Assessing and Treating Fatigue in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Start date: June 20, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study is examining fatigue in patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). IBD includes Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease. These are inflammatory conditions of the gastrointestinal tract and are associated with symptoms including diarrhoea, rectal bleeding and abdominal pain. Fatigue is a common problem for patents with IBD, affecting 80% of patients with active disease. This study aims to identify all IBD patients with fatigue. Initially, the investigators will address all medical causes of fatigue in line with current practice, using a stepwise approach (e.g. assessing for and treating active inflammation, anaemia as well as electrolyte, hormone and vitamin imbalances). The aim is to treat fatigue using a detailed algorithm, as fatigue is often a consequence of multiple issues in IBD patients. The investigators will assess the role of physical activity, nutritional status and psychological wellbeing in fatigue persisting in medically-optimised IBD patients. In addition, the contribution of the microbiome to fatigue will be assessed. For those in whom these factors are identified alongside persistent fatigue, interventions have been designed to address these factors and the resulting fatigue.

NCT ID: NCT05886322 Recruiting - Ulcerative Colitis Clinical Trials

Remote Monitoring of IBD

Start date: June 7, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) with a heterogeneous disease course. Recurrent mucosal inflammation or chronic subclinical inflammation results in damage to the bowel and complications like stenosis, fistula and colorectal cancer. Therefore, tight control of mucosal inflammation is important to prevent complications. The goal of this multicenter observational cohort study is to determine the best remote monitoring tool for predicting mucosal inflammation in adult patients with inflammatory bowel disease, relative to the gold standard endoscopy. Participants will be asked to fill out questionnaires regarding disease activity (MIAH, mHI, IBD-control, Manitoba IBD Index, p-HBI/p-SCCAI), perform a FC home test and collect one stool sample for routine laboratory calprotectin measurement, before the start of the bowel preparation for the ileocolonoscopy. During this ileocolonoscopy, endoscopic disease activity will be determined. .

NCT ID: NCT05882006 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Gallstones and Risk of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Start date: May 21, 2023
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between gallstone disease and the risk of inflammatory bowel disease.

NCT ID: NCT05878639 Completed - IBD Clinical Trials

Efficacy and Safety of Lactulose for Bowel Preparation in Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Start date: March 28, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of lactulose in bowel preparation in IBD patients. The main question it aims to answer is: Does lactulose have better efficacy, safety and tolerability than 3L-PEG? Participants will be divided into PEG group or Lactulose group at a 1:1 ratio by a random number method. Each patient will get a leaflet provided by hospital introducing bowel preparation methods and diet restriction before bowel preparation. They will have bowel preparation with different drugs according to group. The grade of bowel cleansing will be assessed through the Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS). The tolerability, satisfaction and safety of the two bowel preparation methods will be assessed through the patients self-administered questionnaires.

NCT ID: NCT05877209 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Screening of Nutritional Status and Sarcopenia Among Patients With IBD

Start date: June 15, 2023
Phase:
Study type: Observational

1. Screening of malnutrition in patients with IBD and its relation to severity of the disease. 2. Determination of severity of malnutrition in IBD patients. 3. Assessment of Sarcopenia in patients with IBD.

NCT ID: NCT05876182 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis

Vancomycin in Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis in Italy

VanC-IT
Start date: June 15, 2023
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is chronic fibroinflammatory disease of the liver. There is still no medical therapy proven to halt the progression of PSC or prevent its serious complications. This is a Phase 2 randomized, double bind, placebo-controlled, monocentric study evaluating the safety and efficacy of two doses of oral vancomycin (i.e. 750 mg and 1500 mg/day) in subject between 15 - 70 years old with PSC.

NCT ID: NCT05852587 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Xylitol Use for Decolonization of C. Difficile in Patients With IBD

Start date: January 1, 2025
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This is a randomized, placebo-controlled, dose-ranging study to assess the safety and efficacy of xylitol as an oral therapeutic for decolonization of C. difficile in IBD patients. A total of 99 patients who meet eligibility criteria will be randomized 1:1:1 to one of two xylitol doses or placebo arm. All arms will receive an identical capsule dosing for four weeks. Microbiome assessment and C. difficile testing will be performed at baseline, week 4, 8, 26, and 52.

NCT ID: NCT05838196 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Service Development of POCUS in the IBD Clinic

Start date: April 24, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Study to determine whether the use of an ultrasound completed during an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) clinic will speed up diagnosis, treatment initiation, reduce complications, save money and reduce investigations compared with our current standard of care.

NCT ID: NCT05835973 Not yet recruiting - Ulcerative Colitis Clinical Trials

Evaluation of Sleep Changes in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) Patients.

RECIDREAM
Start date: May 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) go through two phases: flare and remission. Prediction of flares and identification of patients in remission but at high risk of flare are a major issue when taking care of IBD patients. Considering close interactions between sleep, immunity and intestinal inflammation, sleep disorders could be a predictor of flares. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that sleep efficacy decreases before IBD flare. Patients in remission will be assessed for IBD symptoms (activity scores, biological factors) and sleep disorders (actigraphy, DREEM®, questionnaires) during one year.

Start date: March 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this pilot study is to explore the ability of field-cycling imaging, a new scanning technology being developed at the University of Aberdeen, to detect active disease in patients with proctosigmoiditis caused by inflammatory bowel disease.
