Lao Anti-Microbial Prescribing Guidelines Mobile Phone Application (LAMPA)

The overall aim of this study is to compare the proportion of antimicrobial prescriptions adherent with prescribing guidelines delivered by mobile phone application (app) versus paper-based prescribing guidelines in both in- and outpatients in six hospitals in Laos. This is an open cohort stepped-wedge cluster randomized controlled trial 3-step trial (4-month intervals at each step) with a 4-month pre-intervention period). The study conducts in six hospitals across Laos. This is 16 months-study. The intervention is a MicroGuide antimicrobial prescribing guideline mobile phone application and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) training; whilst the reference is paper-based antimicrobial prescribing guidelines. The main outcome of interest is the proportion of antimicrobial prescriptions adherent with prescribing guidelines delivered by app-based versus paper-based prescribing guidelines at month 16 (12 months' exposure in each group). Outcome measurements are Point prevalence surveys (PPS) of hospital antimicrobial use, prescriber questionnaires and AMS knowledge survey of the prescribers. Simple random sampling will be used to select the order (step) of interventions implementation for a group of hospitals (two hospitals per group and one group per step). Neither hospitals nor investigators are blinded to the timing of intervention. Open Data Kit (ODK) system will be used as data collection instrument. All data will be kept securely, protected by password access with automatic daily backup. A logistic mixed-effects regression model will be used to compare the proportion of antimicrobial prescription adherence measured cross-sectionally at month 0, 4, 8, 12 and month 16 after introduction of prescribing guidelines delivered by mobile phone application versus paper-based. This study was approved by University of Health Sciences, Vientiane, Lao PDR and Oxford Tropical Ethics Committee (OxTREC), University of Oxford, United Kingdom.

Comparing Modes of Telehealth Delivery: Phone vs. Video Visits (ASSIST)

Given the current public health crisis the use of telehealth consultation visits including phone-only and video visits has exponentially increased. This study will investigate if the conduct of telehealth phone only visits is non-inferior in terms of patient satisfaction/experience, adherence to post-visit recommendations such as medications, blood work and other medical testing, follow up care, when compared to the conduct of video delivered telehealth visits. Patients will be randomized to receive a routine care visit via phone only vs. video.

Minnesota COVID-19 Testing Project

The goal of this project is to help the state of Minnesota understand why individuals are not getting tested and potentially identify trusted individuals or organizations that could be used in follow-up work to send messages. Investigators focus on the first two issues of unit and item nonresponse, which is not random across the population and thus could lead to nonresponse bias. To do so, investigators are deploying flyers through 10 Twin City area food shelves and potentially through public housing units with information on how to answer an online questionnaire.

Feasibility of Non-contact Magnetically-controlled Capsule Endoscopy During COVID-19 Pandemic

In December 2019, an outbreak of pneumonia associated with a novel coronavirus named as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2) was reported in Wuhan city, China, and spread exponentially throughout China and other countries in the following weeks. It is recommended that elective endoscopies should be deferred during the COVID-19 outbreak for the potential transmission between patients and medical staff in the statements of Asian Pacific Society for Digestive Endoscopy (APSDE-COVID statements). Therefore, exploring an alternative for patients with the requirements of endoscopy during the outbreak is of great importance. Herein,the investigators developed an novel non-contact magnetically-controlled capsule endoscopy (Nc-MCE) system (Figure 1) adds a remote control workstation and a audio-visual exchange system to the original well-established MCE system. This study was a open-label, prospective, randomized controlled study approved by the institutional review board of Shanghai Changhai Hospital. It was designed to evaluate the diagnostic utility, safety, feasibility and patients acceptability of Nc-MCE in patients with an indication of endoscopy, and comparing it with the result of MCE.

University of Utah COVID-19 Hydrochloroquine Trial

A novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, is responsible for a rapidly spreading pandemic that has reached 160 countries, infecting over 500,000 individuals and killing more than 24,000 people. SARS-CoV-2 causes an acute and potentially lethal respiratory illness, known as COVID-19, that is threatening to overwhelm health care systems due to a dramatic surge in hospitalized and critically ill patients. Patients hospitalized with COVID-19 typically have been symptomatic for 5-7 days prior to admission, indicating that there is a window during which an effective intervention could significantly alter the course of illness, lessen disease spread, and alleviate the stress on hospital resources. There is no known treatment for COVID-19, though in vitro and one poorly controlled study have identified a potential antiviral activity for HCQ. The rationale for this clinical trial is to measure the efficacy and safety of hydroxychloroquine for reducing viral load and shedding in adult outpatients with confirmed COVID-19.

The Investigation of the Neonates With or With Risk of COVID-19

As of February 18, 2020, 72,530 cases confirmed with 2019 coronavirus disease(COVID-19) have been reported and 1,870 deaths were declared. Until now, cases of COVID-19 have been reported in 26 countries. This observational study aims to analysis the clinical features of neonates with COVID-19 and the neonates born to mother with COVID-19.
