Filter by:The purpose of this study is being done to determine whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using inhaled hyper-polarized 129 Xenon gas can help visualize impaired lung function to detect changes over time in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) patients receiving approved IPF treatments. Subjects will undergo an approximately hour long comprehensive MRI protocol, including administration of multiple doses of hyper-polarized 129 Xenon. The subjects will have this initial study prior to initiation of IPF therapies. Then the subjects will have repeat studies at 3, 6 and 12 months following the initiation of therapy. Additional studies including pulmonary function studies, serum for bio markers, 6 minute walk distance and a high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scan (only at the 6 month visit) will be performed to determine how 129 Xenon MRI performs relative to standard of care evaluations for IPF. The MRI uses a magnet and radio waves to make diagnostic medical images of the body. There have been no ill effects reported from exposure to the magnetism or radio waves used in this test. Risks of the xenon gas are slight numbness in legs, nausea, a feeling of well-being, and mild tingling in fingertips. You will have pulmonary function testing for the study, you may experience breathlessness or dizziness during or immediately following these tests.
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety, tolerability, kinetics and test-retest repeatability of the novel LPA1 positron emission tomography (PET) ligand 18F-BMS-986327 in healthy participants and participants with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, disabling disease characterized by a progressive and irreversible deterioration in respiratory function, resulting in impaired quality of life (QoL) and patient dependence. The factors involved in the alteration of QoL in these patients are the physical symptoms related to fibrosis (dyspnea, cough, fatigue) and psychological symptoms (anxiety and depression) as well as social, relational and financial factors, the experience of the disease and disability, the time required for diagnosis, the information received, and the initiation of a treatment such as oxygen therapy. Caregivers primarily in chronic diseases (so-called natural or informal caregivers) provide partial or total assistance to a dependent person for activities of daily living for care, social support and maintenance of autonomy, administrative procedures, psychological support, communication, domestic activities or even financial assistance, often despite their own exhaustion and health issues. Recent studies on the QoL of patient-caregiver dyads in IPF through semi-structured interviews highlight the role of previously identified factors in caregivers as well. Investigators want to confirm the data obtained in a large population of patients and their caregivers in order to evaluate the QoL of caregivers and confirm the impact of its various factors on it in order to suggest ways to improve the lives of both the caregiver and the patient. The hypothesis of investigators' work is that the QoL of caregivers of patients with IPF is altered, particularly by the patient's functional symptoms (cough, dyspnea, fatigue, anxiety and depression), the arrival of oxygen therapy in the home and the caregiver's social isolation. Investigators believe that there are links and interactions between the caregiver's and patient's quality of life and therefore have an impact on the patient's care.
To investigate the efficacy and safety of Nalbuphine ER (NAL ER) tablets in subjects diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and evaluate it's treatment of cough in these patients. This is a two-treatment, 2-period crossover study. Subjects will be randomized in Treatment Period 1 to either NAL ER or matching placebo and evaluated for approximately 21 days. After completion of the first phase, subjects who received NAL ER will crossover to placebo and subjects who received placebo will crossover to NAL ER to complete Treatment Period 2.
The objective of the current research project is, by using high quality Swedish registry data, to evaluate use, tolerance and effect of anti-fibrotic drugs in IPF-patients. Secondary study objectives are to determine the clinical profile, determinants of treatment adherence, long-term safety and to describe the patient journey from the first sign of disease to end of treatment.
To prospectively study novel blood and lung biomarkers of disease activity in patients with IPF and other interstitial lung disease with the aims of prognostic modelling and disease clustering
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the most common form of chronic idiopathic diffuse interstitial lung disease (DILD) in adults. It is a fibroproliferative, irreversible disease of unknown cause, usually progressive, occurring mainly from the age of 60 and limited to the lungs. IPF is a serious disease with a median survival rate at diagnosis of 3 years. The aim of the study is to set up a biocollection of serum from patients in a context of idiopathic DILD and a possible or confirmed diagnosis of common interstitial lung disease by chest CT. Patients will be recruited at the consultations of the Rennes Rare Lung Disease Competence Centre. These will be patients in stable condition or in acute exacerbation of IPF.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of adding a palliative care intervention for patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) to current standard of care. Palliative care is comprehensive, coordinated interdisciplinary care for patients and families facing a potentially life-threatening illness. This consists of specially trained teams of professionals including physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains that provide care and support in inpatient and outpatient settings. While the specific assistance and support provided by the Palliative Care Service depends on individual patient and family needs and preferences, it may include: 1. Pain and symptom management 2. Psychosocial and spiritual support 3. Assistance with treatment choices 4. Help in planning for care in the community

Fibrosing interstitial lung diseases are characterized by loss of lung function, which leads to a decrease in quality of life and physical capacity. Several studies have shown an increase in quality of life and physical capacity after increasing physical activity in patients. There is evicence that yoga has a positive influence in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, but so far, studies examining the effect of yoga in patients with fibrosing interstitial lung diseases are missing. Study aims are to determine the feasibilty of this study, and to determine the effects of yoga to patients' quality of life and physical capacity. Twenty patients with a fibrosing interstitial lung disease will be recruited and randomly assigned to the intervention or control group. Several questionnaires regarding quality of life will be conducted. Furthermore, the 6 minutes walking test, a lung function test and a biomarker analysis will be conducted at baseline and follow-up. The intervention group will participate in a 12 week yoga class, whereas the controll group will not participate. Yoga classes will be offered to the control group after the study. In addition, focus group interviews will be conducted at baseline and follow-up with the intervention group.
