Filter by:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and tolerance of a gentle facial cleanser in participants with sensitive skin (eczema/atopic dermatitis, rosacea, acne, cosmetic intolerance syndrome).
Objective: This Phase II STTR grant incorporated user feedback collected in an earlier development project to build interactive, web-based software that helps children with food allergies learn about their condition and gain self-management skills. This highly interactive game allows children to progress through virtual scenes to help them learn about food avoidance, symptom detection, and reaction management. In addition, this project built gaming complexity, with more levels and game options, of the two interactive games "Label Learning: Like it or Lose it!" and "Reaction Action!".
A investigational study to establish: 1. A validated cllinical pathway for delabeling declared Penicillin allergiy outside allergologic departments. 2. A survey to examine anesthesiologists attitudes and knowledge about penicillin delabeling. 3. A qualitative focus group study investigating barriers and facilitators in penicillin delabeling among hospital nurses and physichians. 2. Implement the pathway for delabeling declared penicillin allergy outside allergologic clinics across the Western Norway health region.
Objective: This randomized, double-blind, parallel, placebo-controlled clinical trial aims to evaluate the effect of propolis with two distinct concentrations (10% and 15%), and the impact on volunteers' quality of life. Materials and methods: Volunteers meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria will be randomized and allocated into three groups: Group 1- placebo - toothpaste without active ingredient, Group 2- toothpaste with 10% propolis and Group 3. - toothpaste with 15% propolis. Number of teeth will be used as sample unit, totaling 22 teeth per group. Volunteers will receive oral hygiene instruction with guidance to brush their teeth three times a day with toothpaste corresponding to the groups in which they will be allocated for 30 days. The evaluation of dentin hypersensitivity will be performed with three (3) evaluation times: baseline (immediately before the beginning of treatment), 15 and 30 days, through tactile and evaporative stimuli, using the visual analog scale (VAS). The self-reported evaluation of the volunteers will be done through a questionnaire before the beginning and after one month with the completion of the research to determine the impact of treatment on their quality of life. The data regarding HD in VAS, if present normal distribution, will be used Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Tukey's post hoc for comparison between treatments. However, if the data show anormal distribution, Friedman to compare the different times in the same group (intra group), and Kruskal Wallis to make the comparison between groups (inter group). To evaluate the QEHD ordinal data, Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests will be used. Bioestat 5.3 (Belém, Pará, Brazil) will be used, considering an alpha level of 5%.
The prevalence of food allergy in the western world is a growing health problem. The majority of reactions are caused due to oral exposure to the known food allergen. However, there are reports about allergic symptoms after exposure to the allergenic food by contact and/ or inhalation. Most of those reports are subjective without an objective report of healthcare professionals. There are only a few prospective studies that observed objectively the "reliability" of those subjective reports. The estimated chance for systemic allergic reaction due to skin prick test with fresh food is 0.008%, and even then it will not cause anaphylaxis that will need epinephrine use. That evidence is in concordance with our experience. Even with all the information gathered, a study that examines the chance of systemic reaction after skin contact with the allergenic food is still missing. Additionally, lately, researchers start to examine the influence of food allergy on the quality of life (QOL) of allergic children and their parents. As expected, all studies show negative effects on QOL. The major concern of the parents is from random exposure and severe allergic reaction due to contact with the allergenic food. As far as the investigators know, no study examined the influence of supervised contact with allergenic food on the fear of the child and his parents. The study aims to evaluate the risk for a systemic allergic reaction after skin exposure to allergenic food in children with known food allergy.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), or functional colopathy, is a chronic disease that affects 10% to 20% of the world's population.This syndrome is characterized by chronic abdominal pain or discomfort as well as a change in bowel habits (constipation or diarrhea) in the absence of structural or metabolic abnormalities (e.g. celiac disease, Crohn's disease). These symptoms have an impact on the quality of life of these patients who must therefore integrate the management of their disease into their daily life.IBS is subdivided into 3 subtypes according to the predominant symptom: the IBS-D subtype which groups together patients who have a predominance of diarrheal episodes, the IBS-C subtype which groups together patients who have a predominance of '' episodes of constipation and finally the IBS-M subtype which includes patients whose two symptoms mentioned above are observed without predominance
This study will assess the role for an oral targeted medication, abrocitinib, as a new treatment option for food allergy patients that would avoid injections. Abrocitinib, which has successfully completed phase three trials for atopic dermatitis, could serve as a single therapy for two conditions in many patients with multiple atopic conditions.
Diabetic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in people with type 1 diabetes and are exacerbated with longer duration of diabetes and time outside goal glycemic range. Yet, type 1 diabetes is a complex disease with pathophysiology that extends beyond beta-cell injury and insulin deficiency to include insulin resistance and renal vascular resistance, factors that accelerate cardiovascular disease risk. We have shown that metformin improved peripheral insulin sensitivity and vascular stiffness in youth with type 1 diabetes on multiple daily insulin injections or standard insulin pumps. However, metformin's effect on kidney and endothelial outcomes, and the effects of type 1 diabetes technologies, with or without metformin, on any cardiovascular or kidney outcome, remains unknown. Automated insulin delivery systems combine an insulin pump, continuous glucose monitor, and control algorithm to modulate background insulin delivery and decrease peripheral insulin exposure while improving time in target range and reducing hypoglycemia. We hypothesize that automated insulin delivery systems, particularly when combined with metformin, may modulate renal vascular resistance and insulin sensitivity, thereby impacting cardiometabolic function. MANATEE-T1D is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 4 months of metformin 2,000 mg daily in 40 youth aged 12-21 years with type 1 diabetes on automated insulin delivery systems vs. 20 control youth with type 1 diabetes on multiple daily injections plus a continuous glucose monitor or an insulin pump in manual mode plus a continuous glucose monitor which will assess for changes in calculated renal vascular resistance and gold standard measures of whole-body and adipose insulin sensitivity, arterial stiffness, and endothelial function.
The purpose of the study is to assess if the addition of darolutamide to ADT compared with ADT alone would result in superior clinical efficacy in participants with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) by progression-free survival. The researchers want to learn how long it takes for the cancer to get worse (also known as "progression-free survival") by either increasing symptoms, new metastases, PSA rise or death. All participants will be on treatment and take darolutamide with ADT until their cancer spreads, they have a medical problem, or they leave the study. The results will then be compared with patients' results from another study who received ADT alone (CHAARTED). This study will also assess safety by gathering adverse event information throughout the duration of the study. An adverse event is any medical problem, related or not to study treatment that a participant has during a study. The study drug, darolutamide, is already available for doctors to prescribe to patients with prostate cancer that has not yet spread to other parts of the body. It works by blocking a protein called a receptor from attaching to a hormone called androgen that is found in men. This protein can also be found in prostate cancer cells. ADT is a treatment that doctors are currently able to prescribe to patients with mHSPC. ADT is used to lower the amount of the androgen hormone.
