Filter by:This is an observational retrospective cohort in real world to describe RAL data, including NUC-sparing regimens, in aged HIV patients. It is a phase IV study. 90 patients will be enrolled from the Department of Public Health and Infectious Diseases of "Sapienza" University of Rome. In this retrospective analysis all naïve patients on raltegravir-based regimens and all patients switched to raltegravir-based regimens will be considered.
This study evaluates an adolescent transition package (ATP) to support HIV infected adolescents transitioning form pediatric/adolescent care to adult care. Ten clinics will receive the intervention and 10 will receive standard of care transition services.
Recent evidence suggests a decline in fertility of persons living with HIV (PLWH) (delayed pregnancies, sponteanous abortions, especially when patients receive an antiretroviral therapy, early menopause, amenorrhea and anovulatory cycles) with a possible decrease in ovarian reserve. However, indications of fertility preservation by freezing oocytes are nevertheless not clearly identified. The objective of this study is to evaluate the ovarian reserve before and after the implementation of antiretroviral treatment in PLWH for whom the diagnosis of HIV has just been made.
Adolescents/young adults with perinatally acquired HIV (PAH) face a number of antiretroviral (ART) adherence and well-being challenges. Two psychosocial interventions that have been developed to address a range of needs of this population (and their caregivers) are residential interventions (camps) and support groups (clubs). There has been little quantitative evaluation of the effects of attending camps for young people and clubs (for children or caregivers), globally. This study aims to investigate whether a package of psychosocial support (camps and clubs) offered to young people living with HIV and their caregivers in Botswana by the Sentebale organisation, is associated with improvements in psychological, behavioural and clinical outcomes from first attendance to one year follow-up. In addition, the study will explore how the psychosocial programme is experienced by young people and their caregivers, and what the perceived impact is. The project as a whole will take place over three years. There will be an initial six month preparatory phase that will include the adaptation of self-report measures for the study context. Subsequently, two studies will be undertaken. The main study will involve a single group within-participants prospective cohort design with two time points (baseline and one year follow-up) with young people and caregivers. The sub-study will involve a qualitative cross sectional design involving semi-structured interviews with young people and caregivers. Young people will be eligible to participate if they are aged 10 to 19 years at the time of study enrolment, are living with HIV and aware of HIV-positive status, have recently started attending the Sentebale programme, and are able to give informed assent/consent. We will aim to retain 175 young people (of 253 recruited) . We will also aim to retain 178 caregivers (of 263 recruited). The sample size for the sub-study will consist of ten young people and ten caregivers.
Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) affects the immune system. The main function of the immune system is protect you from infections and other diseases such as cancer. HIV attacks and cripples the immune system making people more susceptible to a variety of infections and cancers. Currently, the standard treatment for HIV infection is a daily administration of anti-HIV drugs. These drugs are called combination antiretroviral therapy (ART). ART is very effective at suppressing HIV, but does not cure HIV infection. ART must be taken continuously for life to be effective. ART can stop being effective if not taken correctly and can cause permanent side effects. Researchers want to see if two new products can control HIV infection without the use of ART. The products are the antibodies 3BNC117 and 10-1074. Objective: To see if 3BNC117 and 10-1074 are safe and can control HIV levels in the blood of people who are not taking ART or people who stop taking their ART during the study. . Eligibility: Adults ages 18-65 with HIV who are: - on ART and willing to stop treatment for at least 28 weeks - OR not taking ART with low levels of HIV in the blood Design: Participants will be screened with a physical exam, medical history, and blood, heart, and urine tests. Participants will get the 2 study products or salt water (placebo). A thin tube will be placed in an arm vein. Each product will be given directly into the vein for about 1 hour. To help collect blood cells to study in the laboratory, participants may have a procedure known as leukapheresis in which blood will be removed through a needle in the arm. Some of the white blood cells will be separated from the blood and used for research studies to see how 3BNC117 and 10-1074 effects HIV and the immune system. The rest of the blood will be returned to the person through another needle in the arm. Participants will have 18 study visits over 28 weeks. They will repeat some screening tests. They may have leukapheresis again. At 8 study visits, participants will get the study products or placebo. All participants will be followed for at least 24 weeks after their last dose of the study infusions. Participants who are in the Group that stops ART will be monitored closely to make sure the levels of virus in their blood do not go to high. If at any time during this the study a person develops HIV-related symptoms, or if the viral levels go up to high levels for more than 4 weeks, ART will be restarted and no further infusions of 3BNC117 and 10-1074 will be given. ...
This pilot study proposes to develop, implement, and evaluate the feasibility, acceptability and preliminary effectiveness of a culturally appropriate, multi-component intervention combining peer nutrition counseling with sustainable urban gardening among people with HIV in the Dominican Republic. The overall hypothesis is that this combined intervention will improve adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) and virologic suppression among food insecure HIV+ individuals with suboptimal adherence.
The RAPID-VL study will take place in 20 HIV care health facilities in Southwestern Uganda. The study will test the hypothesis that a multi-component intervention package that targets barriers to efficient and timely HIV viral load (VL) testing will improve test ordering, speed up result turnaround times, and improve the quality of VL results counseling to patients. Phase 1 of the study will consist of a 1-year retrospective medical record review in all participating health facilities. In Phase 2 the intervention will be introduced in 10 randomly chosen health facilities, while the remaining 10 sites will continue with standard VL testing and counseling operations. The study will measure the speed and efficiency of VL testing, experiences of patients and clinicians with the intervention, and the cost of the intervention.

The main purpose of this study is to evaluate a therapy for the inflammaging (premature aging).
The PROvide MIner-friendly SErvices for Integrated TB/HIV Care (PROMISE) study will assess the effectiveness, feasibility, and acceptability of integrated tuberculosis (TB)/HIV services provided in miner-friendly service venues in Lesotho that address barriers to early HIV diagnosis and antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation, concurrent isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT), and retention in HIV care for migrant miners and their families in the context of President's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) programming. The study will evaluate family-focused, integrated TB/HIV services for Basotho migrant miners and family members provided six days per week in miner-friendly service venues (MF), compared to public sector health facilities (PS), which will deliver usual integrated care for the management of TB and HIV. The ultimate goals of the project are to 1) improve health outcomes among migrant miners and their families, a hard-to-reach population that represents a hotspot of TB/HIV transmission, in Lesotho and in PEPFAR programs more broadly; and 2) strengthen the implementation science research capacity of national and local institutions.
