Investigating the Effect of Chlorine Dioxide and Chlorhexidine Mouthwash on Bad Breath

Start date: January 18, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The ODOR trial will be a single-centric, double-blinded, parallel-group, double-armed pilot randomized controlled trial with a non-inferiority design. The efficacy of hyperpure chlorine dioxide will be compared to chlorhexidine mouthwash. The short-term effect of the mouthwashes will be investigated in a 3-hour-long period. The primary endpoint will be the changes in the organoleptic testing scores.

NCT ID: NCT06091228 Not yet recruiting - Periodontitis Clinical Trials

The Additional Effect of Tongue Scraping on Halitosis Parameters in Initial Periodontal Therapy

Start date: January 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Periodontitis can lead to tooth loss which may impair chewing ability and aesthetics. In addition, periodontitis can give rise to halitosis. Standard initial periodontal treatment consists of supra and subgingival biofilm reduction and removal of calculus. Recently, the European Federation of Periodontology introduced clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of periodontitis. The use of a tongue scraper is not mentioned as element in the standard initial treatment of periodontitis. We have planned a clinical study in order to provide information about the effect of standard initial periodontal therapy and the additional effect of the use of a tongue scraper as part of the oral hygiene instructions on halitosis parameters in periodontitis patients.

Evaluation of Clinical and Cost-effectiveness of Different Mouthwashes on Controlling Halitosis Among a Group of Egyptian Children

Start date: August 1, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

To evaluate the clinical and cost-effectiveness of mouthwash containing Curcuma longa (Turmeric extract) versus mouthwash containing essential oils and Placebo mouthwash on controlling Halitosis among a group of Egyptian children.

NCT ID: NCT04216069 Not yet recruiting - Dental Plaque Clinical Trials

Efficacy of Different Toothbrushes and Hygiene Regimen

Start date: January 5, 2021
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

To evaluate: 1) Evaluate the efficacy of a regimen commercially available versus brush alone on established plaque and gingivitis on adolescents. The Group 1 will use the following procedure: Colgate Ultrasoft toothbrush, Colgate Total 12 toothpaste and Plax Mouthwash, and the other Group will use Colgate Ultrasoft toothbrush and Colgate Cavity Protection toothpaste; 2) The level of halitosis. Two calibrated and blinded examiners (Cohen Kappa 85%) will evaluate the gingival condition using the visible plaque indices, a simplified oral hygiene index - IHOS and gingival bleeding index, with the aid of a WHO probe. For the evaluation of halitosis levels, all individuals will respond to a questionnaire regarding personal data, general and oral health, which includes hygiene habits and received previous guidelines for the procedures to be performed in the second moment. At the next consultation, subjects will be assessed clinically for halitosis using the portable BreathAlert™ sulfide monitor (Tanita Corporation, Japan), in addition to the evaluation of the tongue flap index (ISL), pH and salivary flow. The evaluations will be in the following periods: baseline, 1, 3 and 6 months of brushing. Data will be submitted to descriptive statistical analysis to demonstrate the distributions frequency of biofilm indices and gingival bleeding. The differences in the criteria evaluated will be submitted to Fisher's exact test (α = 0.05) and their performance at different times will be evaluated by the Mann-Whitney test (α = 0.05).

Effect of Probiotic Lozenges on Halitosis in Patients With Chronic Periodontitis

Start date: June 2016
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether Lactobacillus reuteri-containing lozenges (Prodentis) are effective in treatment of halitosis in patients with chronic periodontitis.

Effect of Mouth Rinses in Oral Malodor

MR2012
Start date: March 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Bad breath or halitosis is caused by specific gases originating from the mouth or the expired air. In most cases the pathology lies within the mouth and in this case receives the name pathologic halitosis of oral cause or oral malodor. The aim of this study is to evaluate the immediate (masking) and long term (therapeutic) effect of commercially available mouth rinses in the treatment of oral malodor. For this volunteers with oral malodor detected by organoleptic evaluation and confirmed by the increase level of sulphur compounds in their breath (VSC) will be asked to use a designated mouthwash. The breath parameters will be assessed at baseline and 15' after the first rinse (15 ml, during 1 minute) and over night at the end of a period of 3 weeks during which the volunteers rinsed twice a day (15 ml, 1 minute) with the assigned mouthwash. The short and long term effect of a stannous fluoride/amine fluoride/zinc rinse; a chlorhexidine/cetylpyridinium chloride/zinc product and a negative control(fluoride rinse and/or water) will be compared.

Effects of Breezy Candy on Halitosis

BCHS
Start date: May 2009
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Users of Breezy candy will utilize the candy's abrasiveness to scrape tongue surface. The scraping action together with the release of compounds contained inside the abrasive microcapsules will result in significant reduction of oral halitosis.
