Changes of Trace Elements in Aqueous Humor, Blood and Tears and Analysis of Related Factors

Trace elements are one of the indispensable substances in human body and play an important physiological role. Zinc is a trace element second only to iron in organisms, which is widely distributed in various systems and organs and plays an important biological role, and interacts with other trace elements such as copper and iron. With the improvement of detection methods, it is possible to detect the concentration of zinc and other trace elements in liquid samples. It is reported in the existing literature that there are significant changes in the concentration of trace elements in a variety of eye diseases. Our group intends to collect three kinds of samples (aqueous humor, blood and tears) of patients with primary glaucoma and age-related cataract who were treated in Sun Yat-sen Eye Center of Sun Yat-sen University from March 2020 to March 2021. Normal people with matched age and sex were recruited as normal control group (normal control group only collected blood and tear samples). Three methods (FI-ICP-MS, metabonomics and genomics) were used to study the concentration changes of patients with primary glaucoma in three kinds of body fluid samples, and the related factors were analyzed combined with clinical data, so as to provide a theoretical basis for studying the pathogenic mechanism and new prevention pathway of primary glaucoma.

Evaluation of Filtering Bleb After Glaucoma Surgery by AS-OCTA

When antihypertensive drugs or laser therapy can not reach the target intraocular pressure, trabeculectomy (TRAB) is still the standard surgical method for glaucoma. The scarring of the operative area is a common reason for the failure of trabeculectomy. After trabeculectomy, maintaining the shape and function of the filtering bleb is an important aspect to maintain the surgical effect. The increase in the number of blood vessels on the filtering bleb and the morphological curvature are often the manifestations of decompensation of the filtering bleb. Angiogenesis in the filtering bleb region plays an important role in surgical incision healing and is related to the accompanying scar formation. Therefore, the evaluation of vascular distribution of filtering blebs is an important index and early parameter to evaluate the success or failure of surgery. With the improvement of detection methods, it is possible to use AS-OCTA to evaluate the function and prognosis of filtering bleb after trabeculectomy. Antimitotic drugs such as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) or mitomycin C (MMC) have always been the most commonly used clinical drugs, but the side effects caused by their use are not satisfactory. It is still the research direction of glaucoma to find new targets for regulating wound healing and more safe and effective drugs.

Intraluminal Stenting Versus External Ligation of Ahmed Glaucoma Valve

Objectives: To compare the intraluminal stenting and external ligation of Ahmed Glaucoma Valve (AGV) regarding refractory glaucoma management and postoperative hypotony prevention. Patients and Methods: This randomized clinical trial included 30 eyes of 25 patients (age range: 44-56 y) with refractory glaucoma. This study was conducted during the period from September 2018 to January 2020. The study included two groups, AGV with intraluminal stenting group (n=15) and AGV with external ligation group (n=15). Follow up continued to a year post operation. The primary outcome was Intraocular pressure (IOP) and its association with the number of postoperative glaucoma medications. IOP ≤ 21 mmHg without medications announced complete success while IOP ≤ 21 mmHg with medications indicated qualified success. IOP of <6 mmHg defined hypotony. Minimally Invasive Micro Sclerostomy: Performance and Safety Evaluation Study

Eligible Glaucoma patients will undergo pre-surgery examination including: medicines list, blood tests and ECG. On surgery day: intraocular pressure (IOP) will be measured. Then a sub-conjunctival injection of Mitomycin C will be administered . The Minimally Invasive Micro Sclerostomy (MIMS) procedure is designed to create a drainage channel at the sclera-corneal junction by penetrating through the wall [scleral tissue] . MIMS procedure may be combined with cataract surgery. Patients will be followed up to 52 weeks post operation.

OMNI in Open-angle Glaucoma Treatment

This single-center, prospective study will assess safety and effectiveness of 360 degree viscodilation followed by up to 360 degree trabeculotomy used in patients with early or moderate open-angle glaucoma in a real-world setting either as a standalone procedure in pseudophakic patients (or phakic) or combined with phacoemulsification cataract procedures. Medication usage, IOP and secondary surgical procedures necessary for IOP control will be analyzed during the follow-up period.

Latanoprost Eluting Contact Lens for Treating Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension

In this research study, we will assess the safety, tolerability, comfort, and feasibility of lowering intraocular pressure using a novel Contact Lens Drug Delivery System with latanoprost. Latanoprost is a well-studied medication and has been used to treat glaucoma for decades. Currently, latanoprost is FDA-approved to be administered to patients as eye drops, but using eye drops has challenges (having to remember to take the drop, getting the drop in the eye). This clinical trial is being done to determine the safety, tolerability, and effectiveness of using latanoprost to deliver latanoprost in a new way (through a drug-eluting contact lens). The study includes two phases. Phase A is intended to assess safety and tolerability and Phase B to assess safety and effectiveness.

Effect of MEMOPTIC on Visual Field of Patients Followed for a Chronic Open-angle Glaucoma

Open-angle glaucoma is a degeneration of the optic nerve, highlighted by campimetric alterations, and wose only current therapeutic target is the lowering of the intra-ocular pressure (using eye drops, surgery or laser). MEMOPTIC is a tablet combining citicoline, magnesium and Gingko biloba, which have a neuroprotective effect already used in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease for example. Citicoline has also shown several promising results in ophthalmological diseases (glaucoma, amblyopia or more recently in ischemic optic neuropathies). The citicoline used in eye drops (NEURODROP) has already shown results on the preservation of the vision of glaucomatous patients. The purpose of this project is to determine if MEMOPTIC can have an effect, in addition to the conventional treatments, in the preservation of vision of patients treated for an open-angle glaucoma.

Predicting the Effect of Laser Peripheral Iridotomy
