Filter by:The low sodium intake is important for ascites control in liver cirrhosis patients. Therefore, World Health Organization (WHO) recommends reduction of sodium (Na) to 2g/day for adults. The 24-hour urine Na excretion has been regarded as a standard method to estimate the amount of daily dietary sodium intake. However, it is too inconvenient to apply to patients or the general population in practice. For this reason, it has been suggested that a spot urine Na/potassium (K) ratio could be replaced with the 24-hour urine Na excretion. However, the evidence is not sufficient for that. The investigators will evaluate the usefulness of spot urine Na/K ratio to estimate the dietary sodium intake. The investigators will also verify several formulas of estimating the 24-hour Na excretion with spot urine Na, K, Creatinine (Cr).
This international clinical study will enroll participants with a suspected diagnosis of IPF/ILD. This study will characterize the disease behavior of IPF and ILD in the peri-diagnostic period. This objective will be achieved using a multidimensional approach assessing changes in pulmonary function, measured by daily handheld spirometry and site spirometry as well as assessing physical functional capacity at home (accelerometry) and at site (6-minute walk tests [6MWT]). Daily handheld spirometry or physical functional capacity assessments are not routinely performed in this participant population. By following participants' lung function before and after diagnosis using home spirometry, levels of physical activity, as well as self-assessment data from the participants (patient reported outcomes; PRO), the study would provide potentially more rapid information on disease behavior and eventually progression compared to usual clinic measurements that occur only every 3-6 months. By receiving data from daily handheld spirometry measurements, treating physicians may have an improved chance of detecting earlier and outside of hospital visits a decline in lung function that could potentially lead to improvements in both diagnosis and treatment for participants with IPF/ILD.
The current study is designed to test the feasibility of the a wearable bionic pancreas system that automatically delivers insulin and glucagon can provide superior regulation of glycemia versus usual care for adults and children with cystic fibrosis related diabetes.
The trial will consist of a single treatment group enrolling adult subjects with CF on background therapy with KALYDECO®. Approximately 16 subjects will be enrolled.
The purpose of this study is to explore the combination of ataluren and ivacaftor as a treatment for patients with nonsense mutation cystic fibrosis
The purpose of this study is to explore the combination of Ataluren and ivacaftor as a treatment for patients with a specific cystic fibrosis mutation
This is a first-in-human Phase1/2 study of ADR-001, adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs). The safety and preliminary efficacy are evaluated in Phase 1 in patients with liver cirrhosis caused by Hepatitis C or Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis and a recommended Phase 2 dose is determined by the evaluation. The exploratory efficacy and safety are investigated against the same target population in Phase 2.
Part 1 of this trial will enroll healthy volunteers into a single ascending dose (SAD), multiple ascending dose (MAD), and Food Effect (FE) treatment groups. The SAD treatment group is comprised of at least 3 ascending dose level cohorts where healthy adult subjects will be randomized to receive a single dose of either PTI-808 or placebo and will be followed for 7 days post dose. A safety review committee (SRC) will convene after the completion of each cohort to evaluate safety and pharmacokinetic (PK) data. Following the conclusion of the respective SAD level dose groups and after sufficient review of study data and approval by the SRC, a second set of healthy adult subjects will participate in an assigned MAD treatment group. The MAD treatment group is comprised of 3 ascending dose level cohorts where subjects will be randomized to receive either PTI-808 or placebo daily for 7 days and will be followed for 7 days after receiving the last dose. Also following the conclusion of the respective SAD level dose groups, healthy adult subjects will participate in the FE treatment group. Part 2 of this will enroll healthy volunteers to assess the safety, tolerability, and PK of PTI 808 co administered with PTI 801 and PTI 428 to HVs with daily dosing for 7 consecutive days. Part 3 will enroll adult subjects with cystic fibrosis (CF) into a MAD treatment group consisting of 2 cohorts. Subjects will receive PTI-808 co-administered with PTI-801 and PTI-428. PTI-808 will be administered daily for 7 consecutive days followed by PTI-808 + PTI-801 + PTI-428 administered daily for 14 consecutive days. Part 4 will enroll adult subjects with cystic fibrosis (CF) into 28-day cohorts. Subjects will receive PTI-808 co-administered with PTI-801 with or without PTI-428 versus matching placebo.
The main objective is to compare the accuracy of transient elastography taking into account liver steatosis determined by MRI, to liver biopsy for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis ≥F2 in patient with NAFLD.
Cirrhosis is the twelfth leading cause of death worldwide. Malnutrition is prevalent among cirrhotic patients and is an important prognostic factor. Nutritional assessment is therefore crucial for identifying patients at risk or with already established malnutrition and refer them for nutritional intervention and support. In the current literature, nutritional assessment of cirrhotic patients is performed using several tools and methods. However their accuracy is widely affected by the underline disease and its complications. In addition, for the majority of the parameters under study, no gold standard tools and methods have been established so far. Studies on nutritional assessment in cirrhosis usually focus on one or few aspects of nutritional status and not on a full nutritional assessment combining information from medical, biochemical, nutritional, and body composition variables. Hence, the present study aims at a thorough assessment of the nutritional status of 170 cirrhotic patients using multiple widely available tools and methods, in order to assess their accuracy and estimate the prevalence of multiple malnutrition phenotypes such as undernutrition, sarcopenia, sarcopenic obesity and cachexia.
