Filter by:The purpose of this study is to test a novel treatment for binge eating that will be compared to a waitlist control group. The investigators are seeking to target factors that might influence binge eating by increasing reward in non-food life domains. The treatment is weekly for 10 weeks and will take place at Drexel University in Philadelphia.
The purpose of this study is to test if imaginal exposure therapy can decrease symptoms of eating disorders and anxiety.
Brief Summary: This study will compare the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), lisdexamfetamine (LDX), and the combination of CBT and LDX for the treatment of binge-eating disorder in patients with obesity. This is an acute treatment comparing CBT or LDX alone or in combination.
This pilot study will assess the effectiveness of an original oral health education program on affecting the behaviors of patients diagnosed with eating disorders.
Preterm infants with gestational age inferior to 34 weeks were included in the study. A prospective experimental group received the oral stimulation protocol and the effects of the intervention were compared with a historical control group that did not receive any oral stimulation intervention. The study hypothesis is that oral stimulation in preterm infants has beneficial effects on the feeding performance, the length of hospitalization and anthropometric variables, including weight at discharge, height at discharge and head circumference at discharge.
Executive functions are part of the high-level cognitive processes essential to the proper functioning of human cognition. They consist mainly of flexibility, updating and inhibition. Some studies have shown a correlation between executive disorders (impaired executive function) and psychiatric disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder or phobias. These executive disorders are related to dysfunctions of the fronto-striatal loops. In addition, other studies have investigated the link that may exist between eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia nervosa and executive functioning. Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorders are eating disorders characterized by a dysfunction in food intake with restriction of food or compulsions as well as strong concerns about the body schema. Concerning the executive functioning, these studies highlight a lack of cognitive flexibility for patients with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa but also dysfunctions depending on the type of pathology (anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa). These studies also highlight the beneficial effects of cognitive remediation on people with eating disorders. However, the investigation of the inhibitory control has not yet been specifically studied. Moreover, since eating disorders are structurally different, a comparison between several pathologies would be interesting to consider. The aim of this study is to determine if a dysfunction of inhibitory control can be highlighted in people with eating disorders. This study would also allow further researches about cognitive remediation suitable for the specific difficulties encountered in these diseases.
Mental disorders have been shown to be associated with a number of general medical conditions (also referred to as somatic or physical conditions). The investigators aim to undertake a comprehensive study of comorbidity among those with treated mental disorders, by using high-quality Danish registers to provide age- and sex-specific pairwise estimates between the ten groups of mental disorders and nine groups of general medical conditions. The investigators will examine the association between all 90 possible pairs of prior mental disorders and later GMC categories using the Danish national registers. Depending on whether individuals are diagnosed with a specific mental disorder, the investigators will estimate the risk of receiving a later diagnosis within a specific GMC category, between the start of follow-up (January 1, 2000) or at the earliest age at which a person might develop the mental disorder, whichever comes later. Follow-up will be terminated at onset of the GMC, death, emigration from Denmark, or December 31, 2016, whichever came first. Additionally for dyslipidemia, follow-up will be ended if a diagnosis of ischemic heart disease was received. A "wash-out" period will be employed in the five years before follow-up started (1995-1999), to identify and exclude prevalent cases from the analysis. Individuals with the GMC of interest before the observation period will be considered prevalent cases and excluded from the analyses (i.e. prevalent cases were "washed-out"). When estimating the risk of a specific GMC, the investigators will consider all individuals to be exposed or unexposed to the each mental disorder depending on whether a diagnosis is received before the end of follow-up. Persons will be considered unexposed to a mental disorder until the date of the first diagnosis, and exposed thereafter.
The purpose of this clinical trial is to investigate whether symptoms of disordered eating change among participants who complete an intervention. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three intervention conditions and will undergo assessments of symptoms before, after, and 2 months after each intervention. Investigators are evaluating which interventions are most effective in reducing eating disorder symptoms and disorder-related psychological and cardiac risk factors.
Conservative estimates show that 3-5% of all infants have tongue tie. These studies only focus on visible, anterior tongue tie. Deeper, more visibly subtle cases of ankyloglossia have not been included in these incidence numbers, so the percentage of children with ankyloglossia is much higher than previously thought. Previous research by the investigators demonstrates that posterior tongue tie can be as problematic as anterior ties. An available FDA-approved feeding solution allows for the measurement of infant sucking motions. This allows for detection of changes following surgical intervention. Previous ultrasound studies show the importance of the upward movement of the tongue, but further lingual movement parameters following frenotomy have not been reported. The primary goal of this study is to record changes in lingual movement following lingual frenotomy. The investigators plan to compare improvements over time between a control, non-intervention group and a frenotomy group. Secondary goals include recording validated outcomes of reflux and feeding efficiency.
The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness of a novel couple-based intervention for binge-eating disorder (BED) relative to an established evidence-based individual treatment (cognitive-behavioral therapy-enhanced; CBT-E) in a community clinic setting.
