Pseudoexfoliation Syndrome, Sarcopenia and Chronic Pain

Aim: Pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PEX) is a systemic disease of connective tissue, it can also contribute to sarcopenia and chronic musculoskeletal pain with common pathways. 1. First aim of this study was to investigate whether the rate of sarcopenia is higher in patients with PEX 2. Second aim was to investigate the association between PEX, sarcopenia parameters and chronic musculoskeletal pain. Methods: A total of 96-patients were enrolled in this study and divided into two groups: PEX-positive (n=48) and PEX-negative (n=48) patients. The variables: the demographic data, sarcopenia parameters (SARC-F-questionnaire, hand-grip strength, chair-rise test, gait speed) and pain parameters (having any chronic musculoskeletal pain, pain regions and visual analogue scale-pain).

iCare® Home vs Goldmann Applanation Tonometry

Self-tonometry with iCare Home is regularly performed at Sankt Erik's Eye Hospital since a few years back. The purpose of this study was to show that the eye pressure measurements made with iCare® Home by patients / relatives do not vary more than those made with the standard method, Goldman applanation tonometry (GAT), by different healthcare professionals. This will hopefully confirm the usefulness of self-tonometry.

The investigators want to evaluate the impact that self-tonometry results have on the clinician's choice of glaucoma treatment. Efficacy and Safety of Lens Extraction in Patients With Pseudoexfoliation Glaucoma

There are several publications that have demonstrated the protective role of cataract surgery against the development of long-term glaucoma, especially in cases of pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PXFG). Cataract surgery in patients with pseudoexfoliation (PXF) is a procedure with higher rates of complications due to its smaller pupillary diameter and its greater zonular weakness, so lens extraction performed earlier could possibly reduce intra and postoperative complications. Given the severity and high prevalence of PXFG in our environment, investigators proposed a randomized clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of cataract surgery in reducing the intraocular pressure (IOP) at 12 months and thereby change the course of the disease. The control group will have glaucoma treatment according to standard practice.
