Filter by:Corneal edema is the most common indication for corneal transplantation, accounting for approximately 70% of penetrating keratoplasty (PK), and 100% of endothelial keratoplasty (EK) procedures annually. There is currently no disease-modifying treatment for corneal edema. Topical treatments like hypertonic saline are not effective on a long-term basis. For those with advanced disease, where edema and vision loss are not controlled by topical treatment, the only option is a corneal transplant. A potential approach to avoidance of the risks of corneal transplantation is to inject cultured human corneal endothelial cells (HCECs) into the anterior chamber of the eye. This approach may avoid surgery by re-populating the inner most aspect of the cornea with functioning endothelial cells. Emmecell has developed a treatment based on technology integrating biocompatible magnetic nanoparticles with cultured HCECs to treat corneal edema in a minimally invasive way. The primary objective of this phase 1, prospective, multi-center, open-label, dose-escalation study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of 3 doses of EO2002 with and without endothelial brushing (EB) or Descemet Stripping (DS) in eyes with corneal edema secondary to corneal endothelial dysfunction that qualify for surgery involving full-thickness corneal transplantation or EK.
Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) is a surgical tissue graft replacement of the anterior cruciate ligament, located in the knee, to restore its function after an injury. ACLR is used as the gold standard in coping with pain, deformity, and instability for the patients. The most important factors affecting the success of both surgery and postoperative rehabilitation programs are edema, joint movement limitation and pain around the knee in the early postoperative period. If these parameters are managed well in the postoperative period, the quality of life of the patient increases much earlier. In this respect, kinesio taping treatment, which is practical, comfortable, and safe for the patient, is one of the complementary treatment modalities with positive clinical results. No researchers have studied the effects of Sterile Kinesio Tape applied during ACL reconstruction on edema, pain and range of motion in immediate care postoperatively. The purpose of our study İS to assess effects of Sterile Kinesio Tape application on postoperative edema, pain and range of motion after ACLR within 72 hours. Thirty-seven patients who have undergone ACLR will be recruited to our study. Patients will be randomized into 2 groups; Group 1: Sterile Kinesio tape application, Group 2: Control group. All patients will be assessed for pain intensity (with Visual Analog Scale-VAS), edema (with tape measurement) and range of motion (with goniometric measurement-knee flexion/extension). Assessments will be done every day for 3 days (a total of 3 measurements). Group 1 will receive Sterile Kinesio Taping application within 72 hours applied with Sterile Web Cut Kinesio Tape without tension additional to standard during ACLR postoperative care. Group 2 will receive only standard postoperative care.
This study is intended to assess the exposure, safety, biological activity, and durability of UBX1325, a phosphate pro-drug, and its active parent molecule (UBX0601) following a single intravitreal (IVT) injection of UBX1325 in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME).
The Navilas® micropulse laser can be used to treat patients with macular edema and good visual acuity, which therefore do not fall within the indications for conventional treatments by intravitreal injections. The CHU Brugmann Hospital is the only center to own this laser in Belgium.This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of this laser.
The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of diabetes mellitus (DM) on anterior chamber cytokine production and postoperative macular edema in patients undergoing femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS). Patients with DM routinely undergo FLACS, yet the majority of studies evaluating intraocular inflammation following femtosecond laser treatment have excluded this patient population. Importantly, DM alters the inflammatory status of the eye, which may influence the production of inflammatory mediators following femtosecond laser treatment and the development of postoperative macular edema. The results from this study will provide insight into the risks and benefits of FLACS in patients with DM.
The primary focus of this study is to understand the anatomic and visual outcomes of patients with refractory and suboptimal treatment response diabetic macular edema (DME) using anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) to Ozurdex, an intravitreal dexamethasone implant. Secondly, investigators aim to understand the differences in cytokine profiles in patients who respond differently to intravitreal anti-VEGF versus Ozurdex. The importance of this study is to identify biomarkers that may help predict patients' response to different treatment protocols. Currently, Ozurdex is not covered by provincial health benefit plans for patients with DME. Our results may help improve access to care for those who have suboptimal results with or refractory to intravitreal anti-VEGF treatment.
This pilot study aims to establish that treatment with near infrared light (NIR) reduces cystic macular oedema in patients with a retinal vein occlusion.
Device Efficacy: The primary efficacy assessment will be defined as successful if the edema volume will be reduced over time after using the SACS 2.0 device. Treatment and edema evaluation will be performed in comparison to a standard compression bandage. The treatment will be performed for several hours during the subject's daily rest time. The Measurements will be performed daily before treatment initiation and without the device on the leg (baseline) (T0); and after four hours of device operation. The edema volume will be measured by a calf circumference measurement.
