Filter by:This study aims to investigate changes in functional connectivity over a four week treatment course with intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). To this end, seven weekly resting-state fMRI (rs-fMRI) scans at 7 tesla (7T) will precede, accompany and follow the iTBS treatment course. By obtaining several samples of the modulatory effects of iTBS on functional connectivity networks and simultaneous measurements of the depressive symptoms it will be possible to assess the time course of changes in connectivity across different networks, and to assess the overall relationship between the network modulation and the antidepressant effects of the treatment over time.
Studies have shown that children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and emotional dysregulation are characterized by high severity of ADHD, comorbid behavior disorders and increased risk of chronic difficulties. New studies have shown promising results by focusing on improving emotional regulation. We lack knowledge about differences in symptom patterns, stability of symptoms over time, comorbid disorders, neurocognitive functions, knowledge and regulation of emotions, psychosocial risk factors and reactions to stress. Children 6 to 12 years admitted to specialist and diagnosed with ADHD will be recruited. ADHD children with and without emotional dysregulation defined as fullfilling the criteria for the diagnosis Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD) with regard to differences in symptom patterns, stability of symptoms over time, comorbid disorders, neurocognitive functions, knowledge and regulation of emotions, psychosocial risk factors and reactions to stress..
In pediatric intensive care unit of Strasbourg, two exams are easily used for pleural and pulmonary diagnosis : chest radiography, which is the "historic" and reference exam, and commonly systematically the lung ultrasound. However, chest radiography produces radiation and is less accessible in our unit, because it depends on the radiology department. On the opposite, the lung ultrasound doesn't produce radiation, is simple, reliable, easily accessible (the investigators have two ultrasound systems in the unit), and simply and quickly achievable at the patient's bedside, including for less experienced operator. We will evaluate the diagnostic performances of lung ultrasound and chest radiography for pleural and pulmonary diagnosis in pediatric intensive care unit.
To initiate a low-carbohydrate, high-fat (LCHF) or ketogenic dietary (KD) intervention among a cohort of outpatients with either schizophrenia or bipolar illness who also have metabolic abnormalities, overweight/obesity, and/or are currently taking psychotropic medications experiencing metabolic side effects.
Anxiety and depression are normally associated with inflammation reactions and interleukin (IL) related pathways are most evidently involved. IL-17A (interleukin 17A) induces psoriasis-like inflammation and depression-like behaviors in animals and can be relieved by using IL-17A antibody. Also, human association studies found that IL-17A and certain downstream ILs are associated with the severity of anxiety. IL-17A is a sentinel cytokine. On binding with interleukin 17A receptor (IL-17RA) and interleukin 17C receptor (IL-27RC), it induces signaling cascades via nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NFκB), P38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (p38MAPK) and CCAAT-enhancer-binding proteins (C/EBPs) knots, and stimulates subsequent cell secretions of cytokines and chemokines. Cyanidin 3-O-glucoside, the main anthocyanin component of mulberry, competes with IL-17A to bind its receptors and inhibits subsequent downstream cascades. The investigators plan to use a single-blinded randomized controlled trial to evaluate the auxiliary effect of mulberry juice in general anxiety disorder, including differences in psychiatric symptoms and levels of IL-related markers between the experimental and control groups, and contribution of IL-related genes in the auxiliary effect.
This study will provide measures of safety and efficacy of the NightWare digital therapeutic system (iPhone + Apple watch + proprietary application) for the treatment of nightmare disorder associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)-related sleep disturbance and the impact of improved sleep with the NightWare digital therapeutic system. The investigators hypothesize that the NightWare digital therapeutic system will significantly improve sleep quality in participants with PTSD-Related nightmares and poor sleep quality.
Sleep disorders affect human health tremendously. It has been reported that aromatherapy by fragrance inhalation can be used as an adjuvant therapy to modulate parasympathetic nervous activity for relieving stress and mood, and promoting sleep quality. Many researches confirmed that lavender essential oil can be used as an adjuvant therapy for sleep disorders. It can effectively relieve stress and modulate physical and mental status. However, many studies about aromatherapy lack sleep detection instruments to objectively confirm their effects on sleep physiology. Therefore, this study adopts Easy sleep complex essential oil as the experimental group. The lavender essential oil containing orange, petitgrain, rose, lavender, rosewood, ho wood, amyris essential oil and lavender oil is chosen as control group. The subjects will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups. The efficacy results will be evaluated and compared between the two groups. The investigators expect that aromatherapy by fragrance inhalation with Easy sleep complex essential oil will improve sleep quality more effectively than lavender essential oil.
UNLOCKED: A Phase 2 Trial to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of KB195 in Subjects with a Urea Cycle Disorder with Inadequate Control on Standard of Care
The presence of protein in urine is a common laboratory finding in children. Although proteinuria is usually benign, it can be a marker of a serious underlying renal disease or systemic disorder. Microalbuminuria can be one of the first subclinical manifestations of endothelial dysfunction and is associated with low grade systemic inflammation. Multiple studies from the adult population suggest that microalbuminuria above the upper quartile is linked with increased risk of coronary heart disease and death even after adjustment for the presence of diabetes mellitus, obesity and hypertension. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been recognized as an independent risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity related to sympathetic nervous system overflow, metabolic dysregulation, inflammation and endothelial dysfunction secondary to repetitive hypoxia -reoxygenation events. Therefore, there is a need for further studies to investigate the association between OSA and microalbuminuria in children. Furthermore, no studies have thus far investigated the association between other sleep disorders such as periodic limb movement (PLMD) and microalbuminuria in children. Our hypothesis is that children with sleep disorders or short sleep duration have increased risk of proteinuria/microalbuminuria and that treatment and resolution of the sleep problem will be followed by improvement in proteinuria levels.
This study aims at investigating the persistence of antidepressant effect of Nitrous Oxide (N2O) for Treatment-Resistant Depression(TRD). The investigators also aim to assess the effect of N2O on the electroencephalograph, multimodal magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), blood cytokines, feces bacteria flora and neuropsychological performance in patients with TRD. The investigators further aim to identify the predictors of N2O's antidepressant effeect using the above techniques.
