Filter by:The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical and microbiological effectiveness of the ozone application in two-visit indirect pulp therapy. Materials and Methods: One hundred and five lower first molar teeth with deep caries lesion were included and randomly assigned three groups to apply two-visit indirect pulp therapy. Treatment procedure was applied without any disinfectant(control), with 60s 2% chlorhexidine digluconate(CHX) or 60s ozone application. In four different stage (after initial excavation, ozone/CHX application before the temporary restoration, four months later immediately after removing temporary restoration, and final excavation) dentin humidity, consistency and colour properties were recorded to evaluate the clinical characteristics of the tissue, and standard dentin samples were collected for the microbiological analysis of mutans streptococci, lactobacilli and the total number of colony forming units. The data were analyzed by using Mann-Whitney-U test for multiple comparisons.
: A split-mouth controlled clinical trial was carried out on 21 healthy, three to seven years old children, with 42 pairs (84 molars) of contralateral mandibular primary molars indicated for pulpotomy. One paired tooth in one side was designated to Biodentine (Group 1) and the other side for MTA (Group 2) as a pulp medicament. All pulpotomized teeth were finally restored with stainless steel crowns. Subjects were monitored clinically and radiographically at one, three, six and 12 months.
Although the metal-ceramic system is still widely used to fabricate crowns and fixed partial dentures and is considered as the standard treatment in dentistry, aesthetic concerns have stimulated the development of new dental tooth-colored systems as PEEK. BioHPP PEEK is 20% ceramic reinforced, semicrystalline, thermoplastic and radiolucent polymer for extreme durability especially for frameworks for fixed and removable dental prostheses. It has many advantages as low density, light weight, shock absorber, biocompatible and venerable with composite resin. The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical performance of milled BioHPP PEEK-based single crowns and compare them to metal-based single crowns.
The standard-of-care preventive measures to stop early tooth decay from becoming worse is by fluoride application, diet counseling, and oral hygiene instructions. This standard way is not always successful. The purpose of this study is to compare standard-of-care preventive measures to stop further tooth decay to standard-of-care preventive measures in addition to a light curable resin modified glass ionomer (RMGI) varnish material (Vanish XT). The material is used for root surface sensitivity treatment, site specific protective coating for newly erupted teeth and other tooth surfaces including early tooth decay. To be in this study the child must be five to eight years old, medically healthy, attending the Pediatric Dentistry Clinics in King Abdulaziz University Dental Hospital (KAUDH),diagnosed to have at least two primary molars and/ or first permanent molars with early-stage caries (using bitewing radiographs, near infrared digital imaging transilluminaton (NIDIT), and visual assessment), and willing to return for follow up visits. If the child is eligible and the parents agree to the participation of their child in this study, the researcher will review the child's personal and medical history. The child's two included molars diagnosed with early-stage caries will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: Control Group: will receive standard-of-care preventive measures. Test Group: will receive RMGI varnish application plus the standard-of-care preventive measures. The child will be followed up at six months and 12 months. A dental examination will be done using the same methods used in the first examination to determine whether the caries has become deeper or not. The child may be withdrawn from the study at this point if the caries has become too deep and the tooth will then need a filling. The child's medical status will be up-dated, reinforcement of oral hygiene instruction and diet counseling will be provided, and fluoride varnish application will be applied to all the teeth in both six and 12 months follow-ups.The RMGI varnish will be reapplied to the test teeth at the six months follow up.

To evaluate the effects of a clinically approved and commercially available iron oxide formulation Ferumoxytol (Feraheme®) to control cariogenic biofilms and enamel demineralization. This study will be testing topical application of Ferumoxytol extra-orally using a standard in situ biofilm demineralization model.

The aim of this bi-center study was to evaluate the retention and caries-preventive effect of Atraumatioc Restorative Treatment (ART) sealants, using two glass ionomer cement (GIC) versus non-sealant on first permanent molars of schoolchildren. The null hypothesis is that there is no difference in the retention rates of the two GIC, as well as in caries prevention between sealants application and non-sealant. Four hundred and thirty-seven 6-to-8-year-old schoolchildren were selected in two cities in Brazil. They were randomly divided into two groups, according to the GIC used (Fuji IX or Maxxion). All children had their four first permanent molars included in the research and two molars were sealed with a GIC, while the other two molars remained unsealed. Clinical evaluations were performed up to 36 months by one independent examiner at each city.
The objective of this cross - sectional observational study will be to evaluate the oral conditions of indigenous people in the state of Roraima, comparing habits and hygiene conditions in each ethnicity evaluated. This project was submitted to the Coordination of the Yanomami Indigenous Special Sanitary District, the CONDISI presidency and the CASAI leadership. Around 200 indigenous people from the aforementioned ethnic groups, of both sexes, aged between 18 and 75 years, will be evaluated
