Sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption is associated with the development of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and dental caries. The current study attempts to explore whether an educational, science-based intervention is able to produce a measurable negative change in preferences for sugar-sweetened beverages, as well as initiate plans to reduce future SSB consumption in 12-year old children. In the first condition (SSB Intervention), participants will watch a video showing the decay of an egg in various SSBs (Coca-Cola, Sprite, Gatorade, and apple juice), followed by the evaporation of these beverages over a heat source, revealing their sugar content. In the second condition (Water Intervention), participants will watch a video showing an egg maintaining its shell in water, followed by the evaporation of water. In the third condition (Control), participants will watch a video of an egg maintaining its shell in rubbing alcohol, followed by the evaporation of rubbing alcohol. Before and after watching their assigned video, participants will complete survey questions to assess self-reported: SSB consumption intentions, attitudes toward SSBs, and health perceptions of SSBs. Therefore, the aims of this study are to (1) quantify changes in SSB consumption intentions, attitudes towards SSBs, and health perceptions of SSBs from pre-video to post-video, (2) establish the effectiveness of the SSB Intervention and Water Intervention over the control, (3) establish the effectiveness of the SSB Intervention over the Water Intervention, (4) determine the efficacy of incorporating scientific evidence in a public health intervention, and (5) make recommendations for the future application of the method employed in this intervention to future public health campaigns.
The present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Teleorientation in oral hygiene during Pandemic by COVID-19 in children aged 6 to 10 years, attended at the Pediatric Clinic of Forp. For this, a randomized clinical study will be carried out with the factor to be analyzed the comparison between synchronous and asynchronous teleorientation, the effectiveness of the transfer of knowledge in oral hygiene through video modeling and remote guidance. The response variables will be the assimilation of oral hygiene guidance through video modeling and synchronous guidance, the hypothesis is that educational content will have beneficial effects on children's oral health.
Matching the color of resin composite utilized in anterior teeth is believed to be one of the most challenging tasks a dentist has to face in daily practice. The color of the teeth is primary influenced by dentin; on the other hand, enamel has a major influence on the color perception in terms of lightness. In the layering concept, the missing dental tissues are substituted in increments with resin composite of the exact shade as the dental tissue. A translucent composite resin is applied over a more opaque composite resin to achieve a depth perception similar to that of the natural teeth. Which indicates that the visible color is the consequence of diffuse reflectance from the internal dentin or opaque material layer through the external translucent layer. There are numerous elements that make the color matching problematic. These problems arise from the point that color matching rely on many different chromatic properties related to the teeth and resin composite; those include hue, chroma and value; translucency, opalescence and fluorescence; light diffusion and transmission; and luster and texture of the surface. To reach the ideal esthetics, restorative material should mimic the natural tooth in the previously mentioned properties, in addition of having a long time color stability. Massive efforts were achieved over the years to improve the esthetic properties of dental resin composite restorative materials. Recently, a single shade structurally colored universal composite (Omnichroma, Tokuyama Dental) intended for use with most direct restorative clinical cases was introduced in the market. Its manufacturer claimed that it exhibits color change toward the color of the surrounding hard dental tissues. Thus, it has the advantages of improving the esthetic appearance of the restoration, decrease dependence on shade-matching procedures, decrease the number of shade guide tabs, and counteract for color mismatches to some degree. Up till now no studies assessed the color match of Omnichroma resin composite in anterior teeth cavities clinically. Thus, the aim of this clinical trial was to investigate if the single shade structurally colored universal resin composite (OMNICHROMA) will modify its shade to match the tooth structure shade in anterior teeth cavities.
The purpose of the study is to determine the efficacy & safety of Advantage Anti-Caries Varnish for primary prevention. The objectives are: 1) To determine if Advantage Anti-Caries Varnish (test varnish) is superior to an active control varnish (5% Sodium Fluoride, no Povidone-Iodine) in the prevention of caries lesions in the primary dentition. Specifically, prevention of caries lesions in primary teeth that either are sound, have only d1 (white spots) lesions or unerupted at baseline; and 2) To document the safety of the test varnish.
Ageing of the world's population is accelerating. Despite the health challenges they face, older people should not be stereotyped as frail and dependent. Healthy ageing is possible if adequate care is provided and effective intervention is delivered for healthy living. Common oral diseases (dental caries and periodontal diseases) are determined to a great extent by health behaviours (diet and oral hygiene) and are controllable through effective interventions. Hence, this study aims to test the theoretical models for health promotion, develop theory-derived intervention, and evaluate its effectiveness in improving oral health of older adults. The study hypothesis is that theory-derived intervention is more effective than conventional health education in eliciting positive behaviours and controlling oral diseases in older adults.
The aim of the present study is to compare the use of two adhesives for the placement of occlusal sealants, evaluating their retention on the occlusal surfaces. Methods: A randomized clinical trial, in Phase IV, triple-blind, with a split mouth study design will be adopted, which consists of a simple division of the mouth into two parts (right and left) for the first four permanent molars of each patient, where the placement of the materials will be on the right / left side of the mouth and contralateral. They will then be randomly assigned following block randomization procedures with a 1: 1 allocation. 50 participants (6-year-old children) will be considered, and a pair of permanent first molars homologs will be used for each participant. Inclusion criteria include: children whose parents accepted their participation in the study and who signed the Informed Consent, children enrolled in the Pichanaki District school, children who present upper and / or lower permanent molars with absence of deep caries cavities and caries, graded 0 and 1 according to ICDAS II, Green and Vermillion Simplified Oral Hygiene Index of 1-2, have a pair of non-cavitated caries-free counterparts, and children with positive behavior. After selection of patients, the dental sealants will be placed with two different adhesives: the 8th generation adhesive intervention group (Scotchbond universal 3M) and the 5th generation adhesive control group (Single bond 3M), both sealants will use the same flowable resin (Tetric N-flow ivoclar vivadent). Results evaluation: Retention of the sealants will be evaluated at 6, 9 and 12 months. Retention rates of pit and fissure sealant materials will be analyzed according to the split mouth design. The study will use the Mc Nemar test to compare the retention of sealants in the intervention group and the control group at 6, 9 and 12 months. A 95% confidence level will be accepted. In addition, the Cochrane Q test will be applied to determine if there are significant differences in survival for each group of sealants through the evaluation time. The calculation of the survival months of the sealants will be carried out using the actuarial method (survival tables). Expected conclusion: To identify which of the two adhesives presents the best retention after 12 months.
