A Cross Sectional Study on Dental Anxiety and State Anxiety Related to Removal of Fixed Partial Dentures

This study aims to evaluate the effect of the clinical removal of fixed partial dentures (FPDs) on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and the anxiety values of individuals and to determine the risk factors of high anxiety levels. 300 participants were included in this study. Six different reasons for the clinical removal of FPDs (oral examination, denture renewal, root canal treatment, tooth extraction, periodontal treatment, and composite filling restoration) were defined. Questions pertaining to the United Kingdom Oral Health-Related Quality-of-Life Measure (OHQoL-UK), the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS), and the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory - State (STAI-S) and Trait (STAI-T) were answered.

The Feasibility and Clinical Utility of the Use of Virtual Reality for the Management of Pediatric Dental Anxiety

The use of virtual reality (VR) in pediatric healthcare settings helps to reduce children's pain and anxiety. However, this technology has not been used consistently in pediatric dentistry. Consequently, the goal of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of using a Virtual Reality headset as a distraction technique during dental procedures in children and identify patient and clinician's opinions regarding its use. This study incorporates a single-site, randomized clinical trial design with two paralleled study groups. One group will receive dental treatment following regular standard of care of behavior management while the second group will receive dental treatment using a Virtual Reality distraction headset. Patients in both groups will complete a questionnaire to assess their perception of pain and anxiety before and after the intervention, as well as their satisfaction with the dental treatment. The dentist providing the treatment will also report their observations relating to patient behavior during dental treatment.

Comparing Binaural Beats and 432Hz Music for Reduction of Preoperative Anxiety in Root Canal Patients

Many patients suffer from dental anxiety and don't go to dentists for regular checkups. This can lead to the initiation and progression of dental caries, which, if not controlled at the right time, can lead to the loss of the tooth itself. Many forms of distraction have been used to overcome this; music is also one of them. The main objective of this study is to compare the effectiveness of binaural beats and 432 Hz music in reducing preoperative dental unease and anxiety among adult patients undergoing root canal treatment in a dental teaching hospital. The null hypothesis is that both binaural beats and 432 Hz-frequency music are not effective in reducing preoperative dental anxiety among patients undergoing routine endodontic therapy in a dental teaching hospital. A total of three groups will be a part of this study, with a total sample size of 99 participants (33 participants in each group). Group A will listen to 432 Hz music for 10 minutes before the procedure, Group B will listen to binaural beats for 10 minutes before the procedure; and Group C (active control group) will listen to white noise for 10 minutes before the procedure. The Visual Analog Scale for Anxiety will be used to assess the anxiety levels before local anesthesia administration, after local anesthesia administration, and 10 minutes after listening to sounds. Then root canal treatment will be completed as a routine procedure.

Positive Psychological Deconditioning of Pediatric Patients With Dental Anxiety Through Artificial Intelligence

Pediatric patients who will be attending dental treatment at both the Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry Unit, Department of Clinical, Surgical, Diagnostic, and Pediatric Sciences at the University of Pavia, Pavia, Italy and a private dental practice in Genoa, Italy, will be recruited for the study. A cartoon version of a small molar will be drawn using the software Paint (version 22000.0, Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, Washington State, U.S.). The drawing will be animated using an AI-based software (Sketch MetaDemolab, Meta AI Research, Astor Place, New York city, New York, U.S.). A text will be created in collaboration with OpenAI (version 3.5, Open AI, San Francisco, California, U.S.) to be integrated into the video, utilizing terminology deemed most suitable for a patient with dental anxiety. The text will be transformed from written to spoken dialogue using an AI-based software (Flexclip, version 5.6.0, PearlMountain, Hong Kong, China), and then incorporated into the video. Children will undergo the first dental visit at the baseline (T0), in which the following indexes will be assessed: Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS), Face-Leg-Activity-Cry-Consolability Scale (FLACC), Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S), Bleeding on Probing (BOP) and the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS). They will be randomly divided into two group: - in the Trial group, patients will watch the the video, and then the tell-show-do technique will be used to explain the dental procedures; - in the Control group, only the "tell-show-do" technique will be used. Variables considered will include age, gender, and the presence/absence of a parent or another companion. At the second visit (T1), scheduled approximately after two weeks, the variables will be re-evaluated and professional debridement will be performed with a piezoelectric instrument (Satelect Acteon Newton p5 xs,Acteon Group, Mèrignac, France and Sonicflex Kavo, KaVo Dental, Biberach an der Riss, Germany) and manual scaler/curettes (Courette 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14 Gracey and Scaler lm 23, Hu Friedy, Europe). Values will be registered again, for the third time, after the professional debridement.

Evaluation of The Effect of Consecutive Dental Visits on Dental Anxiety of Paediatric Patients

The goal of this observational study is to learn about in effect of consecutive dental visits on dental anxiety of paediatric patients. The main question[s]it aims to answer are: - Did the anxiety level of pediatric patients decrease in consecutive treatment sessions? - Were there changes in the physiological parameters related to stress level of pediatric patients in consecutive treatment sessions? Participants will fill out the questionnaire about dental anxiety in each dental treatment sessions before and after dental treatment. Researchers will compare paeditric patients have two caries on mandibular molars to see if changes dental anxiety levels and physiological parameters such as heart rates and oxygen saturations during dental treatments in consecutive dental treatment sessions.
