A Randomised Controlled Trial Comparing Bone Anchored Hearing Aid With Bonebridge

The Bonebridge is a new bone conducting implantable hearing aid. The investigators plan to randomize patients to receive either the Bonebridge or a conventional bone conducting hearing device. The investigators will then compare the surgical and audiological outcomes of the two groups.

The Influence of the Sound Generator Combined With Conventional Amplification for Tinnitus Control: Blind Randomized Clinical Trial

The University of Sao Paulo Department of Otorhinolaryngology developed prototypes for a digital new hearing aid with an integrated sound generator. These prototypes assist both hearing rehabilitation (about 10% of the population) and tinnitus sufferers (about 17% of the population). Currently, the Brazilian Public Heath Care does not have any such hearing aids. So, the development of devices for the hearing rehabilitation as well as the treatment of tinnitus represents an advance in the implementation of Public Policies in Brazil. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of the hearing aid with an integrated sound generator and amplification alone for tinnitus control in patients with tinnitus associated hearing loss.

Assessment of the ACE Program for Rehabilitation in Hearing Loss

- Introduction: Hearing loss is a prevalent condition in elderly population. However, the low adherence to hearing aids is a fact, with an estimation of use of 50 per cent. In 2007 there was designed a rehabilitation program called ACE, which aims to improve rehabilitation directed to hearing aids users. The study hypothesis is that a counseling program will improve adherence to hearing aids in elderly population. - Objective: To evaluate the utility of a standardized counselling program in patients with hearing loss. - Material and Methods: A before/after trial will be carried out, approved by the Hospital ethics - committee. Patients with 65 years and older with hearing loss diagnosed by pure tone audiometry will be included. To assess adherence we will use the IOI-HA scale.

The Effect of Low-Level Laser Stimulation on Hearing Thresholds

The purpose of this study is to determine whether low-level laser therapy can improve hearing thresholds in individuals with hearing loss. Subjects will be randomly assigned to a treatment, placebo, or control group. The treatment group will be given a three treatment of low-level laser therapy, which consists of shining low-level lasers beams onto the ear and head. The laser beams are cool to the touch, and do not cause discomfort. Each laser treatment will last approximately 4 minutes. Three treatments will be applied three times within the course of one week. Hearing tests will be administered immediately before treatment, immediately after treatment, and six weeks after treatment. Results will be analyzed to determine the effect of the laser treatment on hearing.
