PET Imaging of Chronic Pain Syndromes

Central nervous system (CNS) changes associated with pain have been difficult to measure until the development of functional neuroimaging techniques such as positron emission tomography (PET). We have previously observed asymmetry in the thalamus associated with chronic pain that altered during acupuncture therapy. Imaging studies of therapeutic techniques for chronic pain in animals and humans have been quite limited. This study will be the first to utilize FDG PET-MRI imaging of both the brain and body in order to assess CNS changes and peripheral body changes related to chronic pain and its potential management.

Doxorubicin, Vinblastine, Dacarbazine, Brentuximab Vedotin, and Nivolumab in Treating Patients With Stage I-II Hodgkin Lymphoma

This phase II trial evaluates how well AVD (doxorubicin, vinblastine, dacarbazine) in combination with brentuximab vedotin and nivolumab work in treating patients with stage I-II Hodgkin lymphoma. Drugs used in the chemotherapy, such as doxorubicin, vinblastine, dacarbazine, and brentuximab vedotin, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, and/or by stopping them from spreading. Targeted agent, such as nivolumab, may interfere with the ability of cancer cells to grow and spread by enhancing the immune system. Giving doxorubicin, vinblastine, dacarbazine, brentuximab vedotin, and nivolumab may improve survival of patients with stage I-II Hodgkin lymphoma.

This phase II Pediatric MATCH trial studies how well olaparib works in treating patients with solid tumors, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, or histiocytic disorders with defects in deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) damage repair genes that have spread to other places in the body (advanced) and have come back (relapsed) or do not respond to treatment (refractory). Olaparib is an inhibitor of PARP, an enzyme that helps repair DNA when it becomes damaged. Blocking PARP may help keep cancer cells from repairing their damaged DNA, causing them to die. PARP inhibitors are a type of targeted therapy.

Every year, almost all of ½ million infants born prematurely in the US and 15 million worldwide suffer from abnormal brain maturation resulting from interactions between immaturity and atypical sensory experiences after birth. This study uses rigorous scientific methods to measure the effects and determine the mechanisms of action of a parent-supported multisensory neurorehabilitative intervention for preterm infants, adaptable to a wide variety of neonatal environments, even when parents cannot be at their child's bedside. The intervention aims to improve brain multisensory processing, reactions to sensory stimulation in the home and long term language and motor development.

Mid and Standard Frequency Ventilation in Infants With Respiratory Distress Syndrome

The purpose of this study is to determine, in preterm infants less than 37 weeks gestation with respiratory distress who are ventilated in the first 48 hours after birth, if mid frequency ventilation strategy using ventilator rate of ≥ 60 to ≤ 150 per minute compared with standard frequency ventilation strategy using ventilator rates of ≥ 20 to < 60 per minute will increase the number of alive ventilator-free days after randomization and reduce the risk of ventilator induced lung injury.

This is a phase II open label study that will evaluate children ≥ 1 year of age and adults with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and plexiform neurofibromas treated with the MEK inhibitor, binimetinib. The primary objective is to determine if there is an adequate level of disease responsiveness to binimetinib in children and adults with NF1 and inoperable plexiform neurofibromas. The objective response to binimetinib is defined as ≥ 20% decrease in tumor volume reduction by 12 courses.

These changes are important for many aspects of development. This study is designed to examine how the fecal microbiota changes when exclusively breastfed infants are first introduced to solid food, and how changes of the fecal microbiota are related to other aspects of development.
