The Effect Of Ice Massage On Perceıved Pain

Introduction: In this study, it was aimed to examine the effect of ice massage applied to the hand during episiotomy repair on perceived pain. Methods: The study was carried out in the delivery unit of a maternity hospital between April 15, 2018 and November 15, 2018 with vaginal delivery for the first time, no complication developed during the delivery, with the study group being 178 and the control group being 169 with 347 women. Immediately before the episiotomy repair was started (after exit of placenta and applying local anesthetic agent), women assigned to the study (massage) group were asked to place plastic gloves filled with ice pieces in the LI4 point on hand. This application was made for 5 minutes to the right hand and for 5 minutes to the left hand. The episiotomy was opened by the same midwife as all the women to the right mediolateral and repaired by the same midwife with the same technique and material.The ice massage was repeated until the episiotomy repair was over; total massage time and episiotomy repair time were recorded. Women were asked to mark the perceived pain level before the application and at the end of the application using the VAS (Visual Analog Scale) (perceived pain level during episiotomy repair). In the control group women were not excluded from routine practice; women were asked to mark the perceived pain level before episiotomy repair begin and at the end the repair using the VAS (Visual Analog Scale) (perceived pain level during episiotomy repair) like the study (massage) group. Data were evaluated by using chi square, student t test and ANOVA in SPSS 18.0 program. In order to carry out this study , the necessary consent was obtained from the ethics committee, institution and women.

Adult onset epileptic seizures is rare and often associated with metabolic disorders, drugs and intracranial pathologies such as ischemia, hemorrhage or space-occupying lesions. Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) deficiency is one of the reasons that cause epileptic seizures in adults and can be ignored. MTHFR deficiency is an autosomal recessive disorder that results in hyperhomocysteinemia and causes a predisposition to venous and arterial thrombosis. The incidence of the polymorphism is around 40% in some countries. The aim of the retrospective study is to investigate the incidence of MTHFR deficiency in patients with adult-onset epileptic seizures.

It is aimed to increase the effectiveness of the method applied by adding spouse / partner support, upright posture and massage in addition to the music and body movements that dance includes, and also to provide emotional support to the woman. The Evaluation of Muscle Activation in Climbing up Stairs Activity in Children With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) have difficulties towards the end of the ambulatory period, especially in activities that require lower extremity proximal muscle strength such as walking, climbing stairs, standing up without sitting. Stair climbing / descending activity is a complex activity that requires joint stability, correct muscle synergy and timing. When the literature is examined; It has been observed that the performance of stair climb up and down activity in individuals with neuromuscular disease has been evaluated with various clinical applications. In recent studies, there are surface electromyography (EMG) studies evaluating various aspects of stair climbing and descending activity. Surface EMG; is a technique for neuromuscular evaluations that is frequently used in both research and clinical applications, noninvasive, and can be used in areas such as neurophysiology, sports science and rehabilitation. Our study was planned to examine the muscle activations in the lower limb muscles involved in climbing up stairs activity in children with DMD and to compare healthy children with children with DMD and children with different levels of DMD. Hypothesis originating from the investigation: H0: There is no difference in the muscle activations measured by surface electromyography (EMG) of the involved lower extremity muscles during climbing up stairs activity between level 1 and level 2-3 children with early DMD. H1: There is a difference in the muscle activations measured by surface electromyography (EMG) of the involved lower extremity muscles during climbing up stairs activity between level 1 and level 2-3 children with early DMD. H2: There is no difference in the muscle activations measured by surface electromyography (EMG) of the involved lower extremity muscles during climbing up stairs activity between children with DMD and healthy children. H3: There is a difference in the muscle activations measured by surface electromyography (EMG) of the involved lower extremity muscles during climbing up stairs activity between children with DMD and healthy children.

Efficacy of Capacitive-Resistive Therapy on the Treatment of Myofascial Pain

Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a painful musculoskeletal condition affecting the individuals' daily life presenting with muscle spasm, referred pain patterns, stiffness, restricted range of motion caused by trigger points. Capacitive-resistive diathermy therapy heats deep tissues by transferring energy through radiofrequency waves. Currently, although this modality is used to treat various acute or chronic musculoskeletal disorders, there is no specific data about myofascial trigger points in the literature. The investigators aimed to evaluate the efficacy of capacitive-resistive diathermy on the myofascial trigger point of neck/upper trapezius muscle area compared with the sham intervention of capacitive-resistive diathermy. Volunteers with active myofascial trigger points in the upper trapezius and neck were included the study after being examined by sports medicine specialists. Exclusion criteria were fibromyalgia, discal hernia, radiculopathy, myelopathy, having received trigger point injection and physical therapy within the last 1 month, neck or back surgery, rheumatismal diseases, pregnancy. Patients were randomly allocated into two groups. Group 1 will be treated with capacitive resistive diathermy and exercise. Group 2 will be treated with placebo (sham) capacitive-resistive diathermy and exercise for 10 sessions at intervals of 24-48 hours. Visual analog scale (VAS), neck disability index (NDI) score, cervical range of motion (cROM), active trigger point numbers will be evaluated before and after treatment. The study was designed as a prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled double-blind trial. The study was approved by the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Ethics Committee. All participants were informed of the study and signed written informed consent.
