Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Paracervical blockage can reduce severe pain during second trimester induced medical abortion.

NCT ID: NCT01617330 Completed - Allergic Rhinitis Clinical Trials

Controlled Exposure to Diesel Exhaust in Subjects With Allergic Rhinitis

DALLER
Start date: March 2001
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Proximity to traffic, particularly to diesel-powered heavy-duty vehicles, has been associated with inducing and enhancing allergies in children and adults. To investigate the basis for this association, a controlled exposure of allergic rhinitics to diesel exhaust was performed at a dose known to be pro-inflammatory in healthy individuals. The hypothesis was that airway inflammation would be augmented in allergic rhinitics following exposure to diesel exhaust at an environmentally pertinent particulate matter concentration. Fourteen allergic rhinitics were exposed in a double-blinded, randomised trial to both diesel exhaust at 100 microgram/m3 PM10 (representing an aerosol of nanoparticulate combustion particles, mean diameter 80 nm) and filtered air for two hours on separate occasions. Bronchoscopy with endobronchial mucosal biopsies and airway lavage was performed 18 hours post-exposure, and samples were analysed for markers of inflammation.

NCT ID: NCT01615744 Completed - Os Calcis Fracture Clinical Trials

Surgical vs Conservative Treatment of Displaced Intra-articular Calcaneal Fractures: A Prospective RCT

Start date: December 1993
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Between 1994-98 5 hospitals in Stockholm investigated calcaneal fractures in a randomised study. 82 patients were included and randomized either to non-surgical treatment or surgical management with extensile lateral approach and reduction with Internal fixation (ORIF) The patients were followed and investigated at fixed intervals 2 weeks, 8 weeks, 3 months and 6 months for clinical review. At 1 year and 8-12 years (mean 10 years) post-injury. Both clinical radiological data were collected and several scores were used. The primary outcomes scores used were SF-36 and VAS score. The results after 1 year and mean 10 years are presented.

NCT ID: NCT01613339 Completed - Stroke Clinical Trials

Body Awareness Therapy for People With Stroke

Start date: October 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Affected balance capacity is common after a stroke due to paresis and sensory disturbances. The affected balance capacity may cause walking disturbances, falls and decreased mobility. Balance may be improved by physical therapy. A possible method for balance training is body awareness therapy, that was introduced in Sweden by Jacques Dropsy and Gertrud Roxendal. Earlier body awareness therapy was mostly used in psychiatric care but in the recent years the method has been used for people with long-tern pain, amputations and multiple sclerosis. Body awareness therapy includes exercises in lying, sitting and standing. Focus of the exercises are awareness of one´s movement behaviour, breathing patterns, resources and limitations. Postural control is an essential part in the exercises. Body awareness therapy could be used for people with stroke as a way to improve postural control. The aim of this study is to investigate if balance training using body awareness therapy can improve balance and walking in people after stroke. The interventions consists of body awareness therapy once a week for 8 weeks.

NCT ID: NCT01612923 Completed - Medical Abortion Clinical Trials

Safety and Efficacy of Medical Abortion Provided by Midlevel Providers or Physicians

Start date: April 2011
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The physical examination before an abortion is usually performed by a physician. However, in many countries access to physicians is limited. To increase access to safe abortion this study wishes to examine if midlevel providers such as specially trained midwives can provide safe abortion services. Midwives in study were specially trained to perform early pregnancy ultrasound and if needed to consult a physician. The midwife then provided the abortion service as well as the contraceptive advice. Women were randomized to receive the service from a midwife or a physician.

NCT ID: NCT01611441 Completed - Clinical trials for Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Investigation of Specific Protein/Markers in Patients With Osteoarthritis of the Knee Having a Total Knee Replacement

Start date: December 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The main purpose of the study is to better understand how specific proteins/markers in blood, urine, synovial fluid (a lubricating fluid secreted by the membrane lining the joints), and joint tissue are involved in osteoarthritis of the knee. The aim is to investigate if there is a correlation between x-ray results, specific proteins/markers and different types of pain in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. The study consists of 3 visits over 3-20 days and the last visit will be the day of surgery.

NCT ID: NCT01611129 Completed - Clinical trials for Disability Evaluation

Internet-based Pre-fitting Counseling of Persons With Hearing Impairment

Start date: November 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the use of 'patient journey' model in internet-based counseling of a person with hearing impairment is a feasible approach in management of emotional and social consequences, anxiety and depression, readiness to change and acceptance of hearing loss.

NCT ID: NCT01611090 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

A Study of Ibrutinib in Combination With Bendamustine and Rituximab in Patients With Relapsed or Refractory Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia or Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma

Start date: September 19, 2012
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to examine the safety and efficacy of Ibrutinib administered in combination with bendamustine and rituximab in patients with relapsed or refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL).

NCT ID: NCT01610453 Completed - Failed Labor Clinical Trials

Prediction of Delivery With Transperineal Ultrasound in Women With Prolonged Labour. Multicentre Study

Start date: January 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Objectives 1. To assess if head-perineum distance and angle of progression measured with transperineal ultrasound by the obstetrician on call can predict delivery mode in primiparous women with prolonged first stage of labour. 2. To compare ultrasound assessments and clinical examinations.
