There are about 1320 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Saudi Arabia. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Liver disease is a common medical problem in Saudi Arabia. Early studies indicated that around 10% of the Saudi population is either infected with hepatitis B or C. An estimated 12% of chronic HCV and HBV patients undergoing liver biopsy from Saudi centers have cirrhosis. Of these 3-5% would decompensate yearly thereby requiring liver transplantation. Based on the most recent national census figures, and a 1-2% prevalence rate of HBV and HCV nationwide, an estimated 1,000 patients would require liver transplantation on a yearly basis for decompensated cirrhosis. Liver transplantation is the only available life saving treatment for patients with end stage liver disease. Unfortunately less than 100 liver transplantations are performed in Saudi Arabia in three centers. Around 100 other patients travel abroad for transplantation annually while all other patients progressively deteriorate and eventually die from the complications of decompensated liver cirrhosis. In addition, even in patients who are listed for liver transplantation, often patients are too sick to wait on the transplant list that often takes more than a year and the on-list mortality is high. A procedure or an intervention that may help to stabilize liver function in order to help patients survive on the transplant list while awaiting liver transplantation would be of immense benefit. Examples of such interventions are already approved and used in some centers like the MARS system.
The purpose of this study is to identify specific patient, physician, and health system related factors associated with the progression to a more intensive regimen from initial insulin therapy for patients with type 2 diabetes.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether intravenous paracetamol is effective in treating labor pain.
the target of this study is to assess the minimum alveolar concentration of sevoflurane to maintain theBispectral Index below 50.The minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) for maintaining Bispectral Index below 50 (MACBIS50) of sevoflurane has been reported previously in adult with Body Mass Index ( BMI) < 40 to be 0.97 and in enfant to be 2.83%, However, there is no study assessed theBispectral Index below 50 (MACBIS50 ) in morbidly obese patient (BMI > 40). The first aim of our study is to assess the MACBIS50 of sevoflurane in morbidly obese patients BMI 40 - 70 using the Continuous Reassessment Method (CRM) in 80 % of patients.
The aim of our study is to define the median effective analgesic doses (ED50) of paracetamol, morphine, and their combination and determination the nature of their interaction administered IV for postoperative pain after moderate painful surgery using up-and-down and isobolographic methods.
The purpose of this study is to examine the long-term safety of Abatacept for the treatment of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) with particular in interest in the occurrence of serious infections, autoimmune disorders, and malignancies.
The study aims at piloting the concept of customization of chemotherapy based on molecular markers in patients with stage IIIB (with pleural effusion) and IV with performance status ≤ 2 with pathologically proven non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The study will not test or compare individual regimen but rather it will test the approach of customization concept as a whole. The results of this pilot study will help in designing more definitive trials in our patient population.
Prophylactic treatment will start from surgery until the patients are discharged from the hospital(18). Then each patient will have 2 follow up visit in gyne- oncology clinic. The first visit will be 2 weeks from discharge & the second visit will be 3 months after surgery. In each visit patient will be evaluated for any evidence of thrombo-embolic events clinically & radiologically if needed ( spiral CT, V/Q scan & lower limp Doppler ). Any side effect or adverse reaction will be reported & it will be evaluated if it is related to the drug used or not.
This is a phase II, open-label clinical study prospectively enrolling 40 metastatic patients with non small cell lung cancer. The study will enroll patients at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh. Sub-sites will be open for patient accrual in selected centers in the Kingdom.
The purpose of this registry is to retrospectively and prospectively obtain clinical data in consecutively treated patients, in order to demonstrate that the commercially available Edwards SAPIEN Valve with the RF3 delivery system is a safe and effective treatment for patients with pulmonary regurgitation or stenosis.
