This is a study in patients who recently had a brain attack (stroke) and in whom no clear cause of the stroke could be identified. These strokes are likely due to a blood clot and therefore, can be called embolic stroke of undetermined source. The abbreviation is ESUS. The study will compare 2 blood thinners. Patients will be randomly assigned to either Rivaroxaban 15 mg or Aspirin 100 mg and the study is intended to show, if patients given rivaroxaban have fewer blood clots in the brain (stroke) or in other blood vessels.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of ixazomib maintenance therapy on progression free survival (PFS) compared with placebo, in participants with NDMM who have had a major response (complete response [CR], very good partial response [VGPR], or partial response [PR]) to initial therapy and who have not undergone SCT.
This project which is fully funded by the European Union FP7 Program is designed to pull together all the information we obtain from scans and x-rays to design a personalised 3-D digital model of each patient, their anatomy and disease. We can then use this as follows: as (i) an aid to surgical planning to enable objective clinical decision making (ii) a decision support tool to communicate the available treatment options to the patient and facilitate shared decision making and provision of personalised care and (iii) to enable standardised objective evaluation of the aesthetic outcome of the treatment procedures. This study aims to demonstrate the ability of the Virtual Physiological Human concept to empower breast cancer patients and assess the impact on their care and quality of life.
Heroin use has been related to brain dysfunction particularly in the prefrontal cortex. These effects are evident in neuropsychological impairments in attention, memory and executive functioning of heroin users. To assess these deficits and the application of a novel approach of cognitive stimulation to heroin users in treatment for opioid dependence, we have carried out a neuropsychological intervention program with mobile health technology. Patients diagnosed with opioid dependence were submitted to cognitive stimulation during four weeks in a three-day/week basis.
Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) is a serious, life-threatening, bile acid related liver disease of unknown cause. Without treatment, it frequently progresses to liver fibrosis and eventual cirrhosis requiring liver transplantation or resulting in death. The investigational drug, Obeticholic Acid (OCA) is a modified bile acid and FXR agonist that is derived from the primary human bile acid chenodeoxycholic acid. The key mechanisms of action of OCA, including its choleretic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic properties, underlie its hepatoprotective effects and result in attenuation of injury and improved liver function in a cholestatic liver disease such as PBC. The study will assess the effect of OCA compared to placebo, combined with stable standard care, on clinical outcomes in PBC participants.
The best available evidence suggests that pregnancy after breast cancer does not increase a woman's risk of developing a recurrence from her breast cancer. In particular, the most recent data suggest that this is the case also in women with a hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. There is also no indication of increased risk for delivery complications or for the newborn. The aim of the study is to investigate if temporary interruption of endocrine therapy, with the goal to permit pregnancy, is associated with a higher risk of breast cancer recurrence.The study aims also to evaluate different specific indicators related to fertility, pregnancy and breast cancer biology in young women. A psycho-oncological companion study on fertility concerns, psychological well-being and decisional conflicts will be conducted in interested Centers.
This study aims to collect follow-up data on approximately 90% of patients who were randomized and received one dose of study drug in FTY720D2201. No study drug is given or required. Patients will be required to be assessed at one or two visits, preferably at the original study site, but the option to be interviewed via phone or seen at home is provided. Information will also be gathered on deceased patients. Assessments will be performed only once within an 8 week period and include medical history, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Multiple Sclerosis Disease Modifying Therapy (MS DMT) history, Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Multiple Sclerosis Functional Composite (MSFC).
The purpose of Phase 1b of this study is to: - Asses the safety, tolerability and activity of carfilzomib, alone and in combination with induction chemotherapy, in children with relapsed or refractory acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). - Determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and to recommend a phase 2 dose of carfilzomib in combination with induction chemotherapy. The purpose of Phase 2 of this study is to compare the rate of complete remission (CR) of carfilzomib in combination with vincristine, dexamethasone, PEG asparaginase, daunorubicin (VXLD) at the end of induction therapy to an appropriate external control.
This is a Phase III, global, multicenter, open-label, two-arm, randomized, controlled study designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of atezolizumab compared with chemotherapy in participants with locally advanced or metastatic urothelial bladder cancer (UBC) who have progressed during or following a platinum-containing regimen. The anticipated time on study treatment is based on continued clinical benefit, i.e., until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. The target sample size is 931 participants.
This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter, pre-operative Phase II study designed to estimate the efficacy of ipatasertib combined with paclitaxel chemotherapy versus placebo combined with paclitaxel chemotherapy in women with Stage Ia - IIIa triple-negative breast adenocarcinoma. The anticipated time on study treatment is 12 weeks.
