Short Term Intensified Chemo-immunotherapy in HIV-positive Patients With Burkitt Lymphoma

This is a multicenter,open-label trial to evaluate activity and safety of the investigational intensive in HIV+ patients with Burkitt's lymphoma. Experimental treatment consists of an induction phase followed by a consolidation or intensified phase according to tumor response. Until recently, the immuno-compromised state of patients with concomitant HIV/AIDS and BL was thought to limit the ability to administer intensive chemotherapeutic regimens due to infection rate. However, the advent of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) and evidence in diffuse large B-cell lymphomas that HIV-positive patients can tolerate standard chemotherapeutic regimens with improved outcomes have led investigators to treat HIV-positive patients with the same intensive chemotherapy regimens used to treat immuno-competent patients. Data suggest that these current approaches, along with supportive care, may result in improved patient outcomes, similar to those in the immuno-competent patient population.

Myo-inositol Versus D-chiro-inositol in the Treatment of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Insulin Resistance: Evaluation of Clinical, Metabolic, Endocrine and Ultrasound Parameters

Insulin resistance has important implications in the pathogenesis of the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and insulin-sensitizing drugs are considered a useful therapeutic approach. Reduction of insulin levels with administration of insulin sensitizing agents has been found to be beneficial in lowering both hyperinsulinemia, hyperandrogenemia, and restoring ovulation. Metformin alone or in combination with oral contraceptives (OCs) has been widely used in the long term treatment of women with PCOS in whom it modifies the ovarian morphology, improves intraovarian androgen levels, and enhances systemic and local insulin resistance. Despite to these beneficial effects, several side effects have been reported due to the long term administration of this drug. In the recent years, inositol has found more and more space in the reproductive clinical practice. Indeed, inositol have been classified as "insulin sensitizing agent" and it is mainly used as a chronic treatment for PCOS. Inositol exists in 9 different isomers and in particular several studies on Myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol were reported. In this study myo-inositol versus D-chiro-inositol treatments were compared to placebo in women with PCOS and with or without insulin resistance.

This is a prospective, monocentric, double blind, placebo controlled, two arm study. Curcumin is derived from the rhizomes of the plant Curcuma longa (common name, turmeric) belonging to the Zingiberaceae family found in South Asian countries, especially India which is the largest producer. BCM95 (bioCurcumin) is a combination of a Curcumin extract and oil to enhance the bio-absorbability in humans. BCM95 may enhance and prolong the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of the standard therapy maintaining a good safety profile.
