There are about 21062 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Italy. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Inflammation is a common factor of chronic periodontitis and diabetes. However, to date, there is no scientific evidence supporting a causal effect of the inflammation created by apical periodontitis on the onset of insulin resistance and on metabolic derangement in the condition of pre-diabetes or diabetes. A case control study has been designed in order to evaluate serum levels of pro-diabetes inflammation factors in a sample of healthy patients between 25 and 55 years of age, with or without apical periodontitis, before endodontic treatment and at 6 and 12 months post-treatment. The aim of the study is to evaluate any relation between the presence of chronic endodontic lesions and pro-diabetes inflammation factors that can promote the onset of insulin resistance, and whether endodontic treatment can reduce these factors, thus preventing a pro-diabetes status.
SARS-CoV-2 impact on pregnant women is not well known yet. Some authors demonstrated that lung ultrasound can give similar results if compared to chest computed tomography and better results if compared to chest x-rays without radiations and limited risks for mother and fetus. The Lung Ultrasound Score (LUS) can be used to asses the entity and monitor the evolution of lung impairment. Some authors described an artifact, the "light beam", as a typical ultrasound sign in COVID-19 positive patients. With our study we hypothesize to understand the prevalence of this sign and other ultrasound signs in pregnant COVID-19 positive patients.
Given the number of hospitalized subjects for COVID-19, the difficulties linked to the infectious risk, and the high cost of managing departments for COVID-19 subjects, the execution of home rehabilitation programs, in the form of telerehabilitation, was suggested as a viable option. The aim of our study will be to investigate the effectiveness of a structured telerehabilitation program with a specific rehabilitation intervention on exercise tolerance at home in the subject discharged after hospitalization for COVID-19 pneumonia, in comparison to a traditional remote monitoring program (without any rehabilitation intervention). Other secondary objectives will be the evaluation of safety, feasibility, clinical impact on symptom status (asthenia, dyspnea), gas exchange (day, night and under exertion), lung function, muscle strength, functional capacity and quality of life.
Capsule Endoscopy (CE) is a safe, patient friendly and easy procedure performed for the evaluation of gastrointestinal tract unable to be explored via conventional endoscopy. The most common indication to perform SBCE is represented by Suspected Small Bowel Bleeding (SSBB). According to the widest meta-analysis available in literature, SBCE shows a diagnostic yield in SSBB of about 60%, and angiodysplasias are the most relevant findings, accounting for 50% of patients undergoing SBCE for SSBB. Accordingly, it represents the first line examination in SSBB investigation for determining the source of bleeding, if primary endoscopy results negative. Despite its high clinical feasibility, the evaluation of CE-video-captures is one of the main drawbacks since it is time consuming and requests the reader to concentrate to not miss any lesion. In order to reduce reading time, several software have been developed with the aim to cut similar images and select relevant images. For example, automated fast reading software have demonstrated to significantly reduce reading time without impacting the miss rate in pathological conditions affecting diffusely the mucosa (as IBD lesions do). Not the same assumption can be taken for isolated lesions since several studies reported an unacceptable miss rate for such a detection modality. New advancements such as artificial intelligence made their appearance in recent years. Deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have demonstrated to recognize specific images among a large variety up to exceed human performance in visual tasks. A Deep Learning model has been recently validated in the field of Small Bowel CE by Ding et al. According to their data collected on 5000 patients, the CNN-based auxiliary model identify abnormalities with 99.88% sensitivity in the per patient analysis and 99.90% sensitivity in the per-lesion analysis. With this perspective, it is believable that AI applied to SBCE can significantly shorten the reading time and support physicians to detect available lesions without losing significant lesions, further improving the diagnostic yield of the procedure.
The purpose of this Phase 3 study was to determine whether iptacopan is efficacious and safe for the treatment of Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) patients who were naïve to complement inhibitor therapy.
Migration is a global phenomenon that produces several psychological impacts on the migrant causing psychological changes and difficulties such as the development of psychological diseases, the decrease of the life expectancy, insecurity, isolation, and poorness. These diseases create a situation of emergency that has prompted the need to intervene with specific psychological treatments. This study proposed to verify the effectiveness of expressive writing on the elaborative processes of the migratory journey's trauma. Participants were twenty-eight migrants of a reception center. A blinded randomized controlled trial was performed to divide them into three groups: an experimental sample that performed the expressive writing treatment, a neutral sample that performed the neutral description writing, and a control sample. The samples were assessed in three times through self-report measures. The administration of expressive writing is expected to improve the psychological health condition of migrants
The data were retrospectively collected during the first and the second wave of epidemic in COVID-19 patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2, at the moment of intensive care unit admission and during the in intensive care unit staying.
investigators aim to compare the efficacy of intrathecal morphine, intravenous tramadol and transversus abdominis plane block in the treatment of catheter related bladder discomfort syndrome in patients scheduled for robotic assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy
Objectives: The aim of this in vivo randomized clinical trial with split-mouth design was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of one in-office application of a fluoride containing varnish and in office application of a bonding resin in adult patients presenting with dentin hypersensitivity. Materials and Methods: The study cohort consisted of 38 Caucasian outpatients, giving a total of 180 teeth were treated by fluoride varnish (FV) and 160 - by bonding agent (BA). Baseline pain in FV group was slightly higher on both scales (SCHIFF and VAS). Outcome measurements were assessed one or two weeks before product application (enrollment), at baseline at the application days (end of the run-in period: T0a, T0b, T0c), and at 1 week and at 1-2-6 months after first treatment.
Neutropenic enterocolitis (NEC) is a life-threatening complication of leukemic and solid tumors patients (pts) treated with chemotherapy (CHT) with high mortality rate up to 50-100%. Perforation occurs in 5%-10% of cases. Early diagnosis is crucial to start conservative medical management (CMM), which appears the optimal strategy for most cases. NEC should be always suspected in Neutropenic pts with abdominal pain, fever and diarrhea. Ultrasound (US) can be used to evaluate bowel-wall thickening (BWT). The objective of this study is to evaluate prospectively if US can detect early signs of NEC and guide a prompt treatment (CMM or surgical) and thus reduce mortality.
