NCT ID: NCT00041275 Completed - Liver Cancer Clinical Trials

Megestrol in Treating Patients With Liver Cancer That Cannot Be Removed By Surgery

Start date: May 2002
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Estrogen can stimulate the growth of cancer cells. Hormone therapy using megestrol may fight liver cancer by blocking the uptake of estrogen. It is not yet known if megestrol is an effective treatment for liver cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to determine the effectiveness of megestrol in treating patients who have liver cancer that cannot be removed by surgery.

NCT ID: NCT00003424 Completed - Liver Cancer Clinical Trials

Tamoxifen in Treating Patients With Primary Liver Cancer

Start date: April 1997
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Estrogen can stimulate the growth of cancer cells. Hormone therapy using tamoxifen may fight liver cancer by blocking the absorption of estrogen. It is not yet known whether receiving tamoxifen is more effective than no further therapy in treating patients with primary liver cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare high-dose tamoxifen with no further treatment in treating patients with liver cancer that cannot be surgically removed.
