There are about 25435 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in United Kingdom. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) is one of the most commonly performed orthopaedic operations worldwide. The main aim is overall improvement in levels of patient pain and mobility. Such surgery involves implantation of both an acetabular and femoral component. With the patient in the lateral decubitus position, the Orthopaedic Surgeon assumes that the pelvis is in a neutral position with respect to all three body planes at the time of acetabular component implantation. With regard to THA, the current orthopaedic literature demonstrates a clear relationship between acetabular component positioning, polyethylene wear and risk of dislocation. Problems with edge loading, stripe wear and squeaking are also associated with higher acetabular inclination angles, particularly in hard-on-hard bearing implants. The important parameters of acetabular component positioning are depth, height, version and inclination. Control of acetabular component inclination, particularly in the lateral decubitus position, is difficult and remains a challenge for the Orthopaedic Surgeon. Accurate implantation of the acetabular component within the 'safe zone' of radiological inclination is dependent on: - Operative version - Operative inclination - Pelvic position (Primarily, but not exclusively, abduction / adduction.) This study aims to investigate the effect of patient pelvic positioning and method of acetabular component insertion on acetabular component inclination during Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA).
This study is looking at a new vaccine that might prevent meningococcal disease, and will study whether healthy adolescent subjects receiving different lots of vaccine respond in a similar way. The study will also look at the safety of the new vaccine as well as how it is tolerated.
The primary purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety for 2 different rivaroxaban treatment strategies and one Vitamin K Antagonist (VKA) treatment strategy utilizing various combinations of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) or low-dose aspirin (ASA) or clopidogrel (or prasugrel or ticagrelor).
This was a Non-interventional Prospective Study. Centres enrolled adult patients with partial-onset seizures with or without secondary generalisation for whom the clinician had decided to initiate Eslicarbazepine Acetate (ESL) as an adjunctive therapy prior to the decision to take part in this study. Patients enrolled into the study were not sufficiently controlled with one drug licensed for the use as monotherapy in partial-onset seizures. Patients were seen at baseline and then during normal clinical visits at intervals. Patients in this study were assessed for efficacy and tolerability at baseline and then at least 3 and 6 months after the baseline.
To assess the pharmacokenetic characteristics of 600 mg BID BI 207127 / 120 mg QD faldaprevir /ribavirin in a small number of GT1b HCV infected patients with mild hepatic impairment (CPA) (Arm 1) versus 400 mg BID BI 207127 / 120 mg QD faldaprevir /ribavirin in a small number of GT1b HCV infected patients with moderate hepatic impairment (CPB) (Arm 2).
Background: - Moxetumomab pasudotox is an experimental non-chemotherapy cancer treatment drug. It targets CD22, a molecule on the surface of essentially all hairy cell leukemia cells. Moxetumomab pasudotox binds to CD22, goes into the cell, and releases a toxin which kills the cell. In a phase I trial it had activity in relapsed/refractory hairy cell leukemia with safety profile supporting further clinical study (http://ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22355053). This is a phase III multicenter trial designed to confirm these results.
The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of acute blueberry polyphenol intake on endothelial function of healthy volunteers. Specifically, the investigators plan to perform a randomised, double blind, cross-over human intervention trial using a blueberry drink to investigate the dose-dependent effects of blueberry polyphenols on blood vessel function using Flow mediated dilation (FMD) to measure endothelial function. The study will not only measure the acute effects of flavonoid ingestion on vascular reactivity but will also assess plasma polyphenol metabolite levels.
SONIA 1 is an international, multicentre, randomised, open-label, no-treatment controlled, parallel group, dose-response study to investigate the effect of once daily nitisinone on 24-hour urinary homogentisic acid excretion in patients with alkaptonuria after 4-weeks treatment. They study will identify the optimal dose to decrease urine homogentisic acid to near normal levels.
The primary purpose of the study was to compare the antitumor activity of LDK378 vs. chemotherapy in patients previously treated with chemotherapy (platinum doublet) and crizotinib. Patients in the chemotherapy arm were given the option to switch to LDK378 after confirmed progressive disease (PD), while also had the choice to continue with pemetrexed treatment.
The primary purpose of the study was to compare the antitumor activity of LDK378 versus reference chemotherapy. Patients in the chemotherapy arm were given the option to switch to LDK378 after confirmed progressive disease (PD), while also had the choice to continue with pemetrexed treatment.
