Predictive Questionnaires for Risk of Acute COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) Exacerbations

COPD patients frequently suffer intermittent exacerbations of their disease characterised by acute deterioration of symptoms. Acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD) are associated with significant impairment of health status, use of health care resources, poor prognosis and increased mortality. The development of simple and practical predictive tools would help to identify COPD patients at greater risk of suffering exacerbations, which is important since those patients would need more intense and early treatment. This one-year prospective cohort non-drug study will evaluate several COPD-specific questionnaires as predictive tools and the presence of cardiovascular comorbidities as risk factors, for the composite events in study cohorts. The trial duration consists of a screening period (4-6 weeks) and a follow-up period (12 months), 4 visits in total along the study.

A Study of Ocrelizumab in Comparison With Interferon Beta-1a (Rebif) in Participants With Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis

This randomized, double-blind, double-dummy, parallel-group study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of ocrelizumab in comparison with interferon beta-1a (Rebif) in participants with relapsing multiple sclerosis. Participants will be randomized to receive either ocrelizumab 600 mg or matching placebo intravenous (IV) as 300 mg infusions on Days 1 and 15 for the first dose and as a single infusion of 600 mg for all subsequent infusions every 24 weeks, with placebo injections matching interferon beta-1a SC three times per week; or interferon beta-1a 44 mcg SC injections three times per week (with placebo infusions matching ocrelizumab infusions every 24 weeks). Planned duration of double-blind treatment is 96 weeks. Participants who complete the 96-week double-blind treatment will have an option to enter a single-group, active-treatment, open-label extension period, providing they fulfill the eligibility criteria.

This follow-up study will evaluate the effects of BST-CarGel® application to a microfractured lesion (investigational) and microfracture alone (control) for up to 5 years from treatment in subjects, treated under Protocols CG-CIP01-P and CG-CIP02-P, and will serve as a post approval study for these Protocols, in support of a commercial application. The lesions treated under Protocols CG-CIP01-P and CG-CIP02-P were focal lesions of articular cartilage, grade 3 or 4 (either ICRS or Outerbridge classification) on the medial and lateral femoral condyles of the knee, and were classified as either acute or chronic.

Stroke Inpatient Rehabilitation Reinforcement of ACTivity

The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of daily feedback about physical activity (number of bouts of walking, duration of bouts, total walking distance, average and fastest walking speed) and walking average speed compared to feedback about walking speed only on walking-related outcomes during inpatient rehabilitation for stroke. For the first time, daily walking and other exercise will be monitored by bilateral triaxial accelerometers on the ankles. Activity-recognition algorithms will analyze the inpatient sensor data and return a summary to the participants at each site.

Study Assessing Safety and Efficiency of the Lenalidomide and Dexamethasone Combination in Patients With Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia (CLL) Relapsing or Resistant to Treatment

Despite certain notable progress, treatment of patients with Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia (CLL) is still disappointing. Although thanks to the use of treatment of (immune) chemotherapy, mainly based on fludarabine, rituximab and alemtuzumab, the rate of complete response (CR) has increased from minus 10% observed when clorambucil was the core of the therapy to a 60-70%, with time all patients relapse and most of them die at the end due to the disease or to involvements related to the treatment. Progress when understanding the CLL biology have cleared a series of aspects: 1) there is a significant proportion of CLL cells actively copying themselves, contrary to the opinion that most of CLL cells are in G0 phase of the cell cycle; 2) Immune regulatory mechanism basically measured by T cells and NK cells have an important role in the continuous accumulation of CLL cells in the body; 3) Cells of the stroma are essential to maintain survival of CLL cells through a series of cytokines or chemokines. Under the light of this evidence, it is worth studying new treatment modes directed not only to CLL cells but also to the microenvironment and immune functions. Lenalidomide is being investigated as treatment for several oncologic indications including myelodysplastic syndromes, multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Within the scope of CLL, it has been proved that lenalidomide is active in patients with relapsing / treatment resistant CLL patients. Forty five patients with relapsing CLL, 51% resistant to fludarabine, where included in a phase II study and were treated orally with 25 mg of lenalidomide on days 1 to 21 of a cycle of 28 days. The total response rate was of 47% with up to a 9% of complete responses. The combination of lenalidomide with dexamethasone is being investigated in multiple myeloma and has revealed as a highly efficient treatment in relapsing/ treatment resistant patients as well as in those newly diagnosed. Bearing in mind that both drugs, lenalidomide and dexamethasone, are clinically active in CLL the investigators have designed a study with this combination in relapsing or treatment resistant patients following treatments containing fludarabine which do not meet the requirements for an intensive rescue treatment. Given initial doses of 10 and 25 mg of lenalidomide daily may be associated with tumor lysis cases, it is proposed a low initial dose of lenalidomide in the first cycle 2.5mg., with further increases to prevent the occurrence of tumor lysis syndrome
