The purpose of this study is to try to find the best dose of the new drug BAY 2433334 to give to participants and to look at how well BAY 2433334 works in patients with irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation) that can lead to blood clots, stroke and other heart-related complications. In addition researchers want to compare the safety of the study drug to apixaban, a non-vitamin K oral anticoagulant (NOAC) in patients with atrial fibrillation. This study is also done to learn how the drug in this study moves into, through and out of the body. BAY 2433334, works by blocking a step of the blood clotting process in our body and thins the blood and is a so called oral FXIa inhibitor. Apixaban, works by reducing the production of blood clotting factors in our body and thins the blood and is a so called non-vitamin K oral anticoagulant (NOAC). Thinning the blood can prevent you from blood clots which can cause a stroke.

Best Practice Study of Diabetes Type 2 Management in Primary Care in Switzerland

This observational study intends to evaluate the use and adherence of different types of primary care practices to the diabetes criteria-protocol (diabetes score), developed by the Swiss Society of Endocrinology and Diabetology. This diabetes score comprises visits to the doctor, lifestyle consultations, clinical measures such as blood pressure, cholesterol or blood sugar, as well as measures concerning the prevention of secondary complications like kidney, eye or feet issues. The participating primary care practices need to treat 80% of their diabetes patients (their "diabetes population") in accordance to the score-criteria. In addition to the adherence to the eight score-criteria, the practices are required to also document statistically if their diabetes patients get the following medication: oral antidiabetics, insulin, blood pressure medication, statins and / flu vaccine. As this observational study is and before-and-after study, the primary care practices need to document for each of their diabetes patients the care they provided in the year before the introduction of the score-criteria and in the year following their introduction. Participating primary care practices ask their diabetes patients' consent to the documentation and anonymous transmittance of their data. Data evaluation is anonymous and on a population-based level (as opposed to individual-based). The hypothesis of the study is to prove that the implementation of evidence-based measures, such as a diabetes score can increase the treatment quality of diabetes patients in primary care practices and this increase is independent of the primary care practice structure in which it is applied.

Human Research Project Risk Category A. In this study no additional intervention or treatment are performed. The whole blood samples are taken from a routinely placed arterial catheter. The blood loss caused by the two additional blood samples is estimated with 2x 2.7ml. The Risk for the patients to participate in this study is minimal. Clinical observational study of a point of care in vitro diagnostic device, the Quantra®system (Quantra), that received the CE Mark in April 2017 and is approved by the Swiss Medic for clinical use. The Quantra estimates the coagulation strength of whole blood by sonorheometry technology applying a series of ultrasound pulses to a whole blood sample and measuring its stiffness by returning echoes.

A Research Study Investigating Mim8 in People With Haemophilia A

This study is investigating how Mim8 works in people with haemophilia A, who either have inhibitors or do not have inhibitors. Mim8 is a new medication that will be used for prevention of bleeding episodes. Mim8 works by replacing the function of the missing clotting factor VIII (FVIII). Mim8 will be injected with a thin needle in the skin of the stomach, using a pen-injector. The study will last for up to 44 months. It consists of a main phase (part 1 and part 2) and an extension phase. In part 1, participants will be injected only once with either Mim8 or a "dummy" medicine (placebo) - which one will be decided by chance. In part 2 and the extension phase participants will get an Mim8 injection weekly or monthly.

Group Music Practice Enhances Development

This randomized controlled trial shows for the first time that focused musical instrumental practice as compared to traditional sensitization to music provokes multiple transfer effects in the cognitive and sensorimotor domain. Over the last two years of primary school (10-12-year-old children), sixty-nine children received biweekly musical instruction in a group setting by professional musicians within the regular school curriculum. The intervention group learned to play string instruments, whereas the control group, peers in parallel classes, was sensitized to music via listening, theory, and some practice. Broad benefits manifested in the intervention group as compared to the control group for working memory, attention, processing speed, cognitive flexibility, matrix reasoning, sensorimotor hand function and bimanual coordination Apparently, learning to play a complex instrument in a dynamic group setting impacts development much stronger than classical sensitization to music. Our results therefore highlight the added value of intensive musical instrumental training in a group setting, encouraging general implementation in public primary schools, better preparing children for secondary school and for daily living activities.

Effect of Polyphenols on Iron Absorption From Finger Millet

In India, one of the fast growing countries, 53% of all women have anaemia as per the National Family Health Survey. A recently published study on the burden of disease in India concluded that the burden of Iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) is 3 times higher than the average globally for other geographies at a similar level of development, and that women are disproportionately affected. Finger Millet (Eleusine coracana), more commonly known as Ragi, is a type of a millet crop grown in India, is considerably rich in minerals and its micronutrient density is higher than that of the world's major cereal grains: rice and wheat. Ragi also contains different antinutrients such as phytates and polyphenols, which have been known to have an inhibiting effect on the absorption of iron. On an average, white finger millet contains 0.04-0.09% polyphenols and brown varieties have 0.08-3.47%. The dark variety of ragi is the most widely consumed type. The white ragi is the lesser consumed type. However, the levels of polyphenols, which inhibit the absorption of iron, are ten times lower in the white ragi as compared to the dark ragi. Thus, it is important to evaluate the extent of inhibition of the polyphenols on the iron absorption. This information would be beneficial for policy making and promotion of cultivation of the type of ragi that could be most effective for the consumers

Feasibility of Action Observation Training [AOT] in Infants After Unilateral Brain Lesion

The study examines whether infants with a perinatal unilateral brain lesion can perform an "Action Observation Training" [AOT] at the age of 9-12 months . AOT is the targeted and concentrated observation of movements and actions to learn new motor skills. In adults with hemiplegia after a stroke and in older children with hemiplegia, AOT can lead to an improvement in the functions of the affected hand/arm. Infants with early unilateral brain damage are at increased risk of developing a hemiplegia and thus impaired upper limb function. There is little known about treatment options to promote arm and hand skills in early childhood and their effectiveness. In particular, there is a lack of knowledge whether AOT could also be used in infants. It is known that even in infants at an early age brain activity can be measured while they are observing movements and infants learn a lot about observing and imitating. Knowledge about the measurement of manual skills is also reduced. So far, tests have been used to observe and evaluate how infants use their hands when playing (e.g. Mini-Assisting Hand Assessment). The aim of this study is to investigate whether measurements with motion sensors can also be used in infants. In the pre-post study, about 5 to 10 toddlers will be examined. During four weeks, the parents should give the child 20 minutes of AOT per day at home. A therapy diary will be completed for this purpose. During six weeks, the parents will use movement sensors on two days a week for the upper limb of the infants. Finally, three questionnaires about the AOT and the motion sensors will be completed by the parents.
