Quality Control of CE-Certified Phonak Hearing Aids - 2020_26

Phonak Hearing Devices pass through different development and study phases. At an early stage, feasibility studies are conducted to investigate new algorithms, features and functions in an isolated manner. If the benefit is proven, their performance is then investigated regarding interdependency between all available algorithms, features and functions running in parallel in a hearing aid (pivotal/pre-validation studies) and, resulting from the pre-validation studies, they get optimized. Prior to product launch, the Phonak Hearing Systems get reviewed by a final quality control in terms of clinical trials. This is a validation study, investigating improved algorithms, features, functions and wearing comfort. This will be a clinical investigation which will be conducted mono centric at Sonova AG Headquarters based in Stäfa (Switzerland).

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the role of neoadjuvant immunotherapy and to demonstrate high pathologic complete response (pCR) and near pCR rates in melanoma participants with clinically detectable nodal disease and a high risk of recurrence. Neoadjuvant immunotherapy aims to enhance the systemic T-cell response to tumor antigens while detectable tumor is still present, inducing a stronger and broader tumor-specific immune response. Of the neoadjuvant approaches studied within melanoma, the neoadjuvant combination of nivolumab and ipilimumab has demonstrated high pCR and near pCR rates that may translate to prolonged clinical benefit.

The ADAPT system is a software that calculate a virtual 3D reconstruction of the femoral head without additional radiation. It automatically detects the used implant and its position relative to the femoral head, helping the surgeon to achieve an optimal proximal screw positioning in the femoral head. The investigators want to verify if with the addition of the ADAPT system the investigators can improve screw placement and reduce surgery time and radiation exposure.

The Effect of Preoperative Explanatory Videos in Total Extraperitoneal Inguinal Hernioplasty on Information Providing: a Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial

The use of electronic media in informed consent giving has become increasingly important in recent years. Due to the easy access to information via electronical media, patients are primed in a heterogeneous manner concerning expectations and wishes regarding surgical interventions. Inherent to its nature elective interventions are critically questioned as there is time for information gathering and reflection. In this study, the investigators set out to investigate the effect of an educational video as a supporting element in the process of informed consent giving for one the most frequently performed interventions in general surgery, namely inguinal hernia repair. In a multi-center setup, eligible patients for primary inguinal hernia repair will be randomly assigned to 1 of 3 groups. The intervention video provides basic principles of endoscopic extraperitoneal hernia repair. The second video is similar in length and design and displays general aspects of day surgery in the two study centres. The third group's link will lead to the digital version of the informed consent. Primary outcomes will consist of 1) score in a multiple choice test assessing gain of knowledge regarding hernia repair, 2) difference in the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and 3) patient satisfaction questionnaire (ICF, Picker Institute, Germany) as assessed 1-2 days after the first consultation.

Due to the lack of direct evidence of optimal iodine intake of Chinese children, pregnant and lactating women and infants were found during the recent revision of Chinese dietary reference intakes (DRIs) of iodine in 2013 by the applicant Pro. Zhang, and no systematical research about compensatory mechanism of iodine nutrition in lactating women was found yet. Previous study funded by United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) cooperated with the international experts on iodine and key project of national natural science foundation of China under the guidance of Pro. Zhang, had obtained the safe intake range of iodine from children and pregnant women, more than 10 joint papers were published, which laid the foundation of population study and international cooperation.

Study to Prevent Postoperative Urinary Retention

Post-operative urinary retention (POUR) is a common complication after inguinal hernia repair with a reported incidence up 34%. It can be described as the inability to initiate urination or properly empty one's bladder following surgery. It is usually self-limited, but it requires the use of catheterization to empty the bladder in order to prevent further injury to the bladder or kidneys and to relief the discomfort of a full bladder. Tamsulosin is a medication that is commonly used in men with urinary symptoms related to an enlarged prostate. There is some evidence to suggest that it may also potentially be beneficial for preventing post-operative urinary retention. The purpose of this study is to determine if tamsulosin ("TAMSULOSIN Mepha Ret Depocaps 0.4 mg") is effective in preventing post-operative urinary retention following endoscopic total extraperitoneal inguinal hernia repair and its impact on hospital length of stay.
