There are about 28871 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Canada. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The primary aim of this research study is to determine whether titrated, patient-directed transdermal patch NRT, based on smoking history and symptoms of nicotine withdrawal, improves long-term rates of smoking cessation in patients motivated to quit smoking when compared to patients using the standard transdermal NRT patch protocol. The following hypothesis will be tested: CO-validated continuous abstinence rate at 52 weeks post target quit date will be higher for the titrated, self-directed NRT group compared to the standard NRT treatment group.
This randomized phase II trial studies how well whole-brain radiation therapy or stereotactic radiosurgery with or without lapatinib ditosylate works in treating patients with breast cancer that has too many of a protein called human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) on its cells and has spread to the brain. Radiation therapy uses high energy x rays to kill tumor cells and shrink tumors. Stereotactic radiosurgery is a specialized radiation therapy that delivers a single, high dose of radiation directly to the tumor and may kill more tumor cells and cause less damage to normal tissue. Lapatinib ditosylate may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. It is not yet known whether whole-brain radiation therapy or stereotactic radiosurgery together with lapatinib ditosylate is an effective treatment for brain metastasis from breast cancer.
The primary objective of this study is to compare the efficacy of intranasal administration of 100, 200, and 400 μg of fluticasone propionate twice a day delivered by the OptiNose device with placebo in subjects with bilateral nasal polyposis. Two co-primary endpoints will be used in the study: reduction of nasal congestion/obstruction symptoms at the end of Week 4 of the double-blind treatment phase measured by the 7 day average instantaneous AM diary symptom scores, and reduction in total polyp grade (sum of scores from both nasal cavities) over the 16 weeks of the double-blind treatment phase as determined by the Lildholdt scale score measured by nasoendoscopy.
The purpose of this study is to find out if giving reolysin in combination with FOLFOX6/ bevacizumab can offer better results than standard therapy with FOLFOX6/ bevacizumab.
The study will assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of providing brief, intensive case management for frequent users of hospital Emergency Departments who have mental health and/or addictions problems. The goals of the intervention are to support patients' transition to community-based health and social services and supports - including primary and urgent psychiatric care, peer support and other community services and supports - so as to improve patient wellbeing and reduce avoidable ED visits and hospitalizations.
This is a study to investigate if eltrombopag can be used instead of Intravenous Immune Globulin (IVIG) in patients with ITP, to adequately raise their platelet count when they undergo minor or major surgery. Eltrombopag is a daily, oral pill approved for treatment of ITP. IVIG is a blood product frequently used to treat ITP. Patients with ITP who need surgery have to get treatment to increase their platelet count. IVIG is commonly used for this purpose but eltrombopag may be more effective and convenient for patients.
Study Purpose and Design The goal of this study is to improve CVD risk in a primary care adult population, with the following primary objectives 1. To improve management of global cardiovascular risk of patients within two primary care practices, thereby improving their overall cardiac health. 2. To increase patient compliance with lifestyle aimed at pharmaceutical interventions aimed at decreasing global cardiovascular risk. Secondary objectives of the study are: 1. To examine the utility of a process to improve the management of global cardiovascular risk of patients within two primary care practices. 2. To explore the utility of a process that links primary care practices with existing community resources in order to manage cardiac risk factors better among individuals within those primary care practices. 3. To determine the economic impact of a global risk assessment and management process within a primary care setting.
The purpose of this study is to compare the treatment effect of two treatment regimens of Cat-PAD vs placebo and to evaluates the treatment effect of Cat-PAD on symptoms, rescue medication usage and Quality of Life.
To determine the dose or doses of PF-00547659 that will be the most effective to improve or halt the disease symptoms in patients with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis.
Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) has emerged as a new treatment option for peripherally located lung tumours, offering very high rates of tumour eradication, with minimal side effects. Even though this treatment option is being adopted in more and more cancer centres, there is still no consensus about the optimal schedule for the radiation treatment. Generally speaking, most lung SBRT schedules involve delivering 3-4 days of radiation. At the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre, the lung SBRT policy is to deliver 4 days of radiation over 11 days (each treatment given once very 3rd day). However, some centres deliver the same treatment over 4 days in a row (each treatment given once daily over 4 days). There is no evidence from the published literature to suggest that there is any difference in side effects between delivering the SBRT over 4 days versus 11 days. To confirm this, the investigators propose to conduct a comparative (randomized) study to compare these 2 approaches.
