NCT ID: NCT00543725 Completed - HIV Infections Clinical Trials

TMC278-TiDP6-C215: A Clinical Trial in Treatment Naive HIV-subjects Patients Comparing TMC278 to Efavirenz in Combination With 2 Nucleoside/Nucleotide Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors

Start date: June 2008
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this trial is to compare the effectiveness, safety and tolerability of TMC278 given at a dose of 25 mg once daily versus efavirenz (EFV) at a dose of 600 mg once daily, when combined with a background regimen containing 2 nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors ( investigator choice of ABC/3TC, TDF/FTC or AZT/3TC) in HIV-1 infected patients who have not yet taken any anti-HIV drugs. The following evaluations will be done: antiviral activity, immunologic changes, and viral geno-/phenotype evolution, relationship of Pharmacokinetics (PK) and PK/Pharmacodynamics and Medical resource utilization and treatment adherence.

NCT ID: NCT00542919 Completed - B-Cell Lymphoma Clinical Trials

A Study for Patients With Non-Hodgkin's Lymphomas

Start date: November 2007
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

In this study, all patients will get investigational drug. There will be no comparator drug. This study will evaluate three tumor types: T-cell lymphoma, Indolent B-cell lymphoma, and Aggressive B-cell lymphoma. Each tumor type will include several tumor subtypes: - T-cell lymphoma: Peripheral and Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (PTCL, CTCL) - Indolent B-cell lymphoma: Small lymphocytic lymphoma, follicular lymphoma (Gr 1 or 2) and marginal zone lymphoma - Aggressive B-cell lymphoma: Primary CNS lymphoma, follicular lymphoma (Gr 3a and 3b) and aggressive lymphoma with prior clinical history of indolent lymphoma.

NCT ID: NCT00542880 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Evaluation of Onset of Effect in Patients With Severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Treated With Symbicort® Compared to Seretide®

SPEED
Start date: September 2007
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This study is to assess the effects with two different inhaled respiratory medications with regards to improvement of lung function, symptoms and morning activities.

NCT ID: NCT00542841 Completed - Clinical trials for 21-hydroxylase Deficiency

Examining Genetic Differences Among People With 21-Hydroxylase Deficiency

Start date: August 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is a genetic disorder that affects the amount of steroids that the body forms. The most common form of CAH is 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21OHD), which leads to cortisol deficiency. This, in turn, causes the development of mature masculine characteristics in newborn, prepubescent, and grown females and in prepubescent males. 21OHD is known to be caused by the mutation of a specific gene. However, symptom severity among people with 21OHD varies, and adults seem to be less affected than children. This study will examine participants' DNA to determine what other genes may affect the severity of 21OHD and may make the disease milder in adults than in children.

NCT ID: NCT00542516 Completed - Clinical trials for Hip Replacement Arthroplasty

Comparison Between Two Techniques of Volemic Expansion in Hip Replacement Arthroplasty

Start date: September 2006
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Currently the most use solution to volemic reposition in hip replacement arthroplasty is the crystalloid solution. This trial intends to compare two different volemic replacements: HES and Ringer's lactate. This research has been analyzing hemodynamic parameters and the coagulation status before and after the pre-expansion with the solutions above mentioned.

NCT ID: NCT00540904 Completed - Clinical trials for Radiographic Contrast Agent Nephropathy

Prevention of Contrast Induced Nephropathy in Oncology Patients With Sodium Bicarbonate

Start date: September 2007
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Contrast induced nephropathy is a rising cause of acute renal failure in all patients. A study published in JAMA 2004, show a superiority of a hydratation with sodium bicarbonate in comparison with the same volume hydratation with sodium bicarbonate. The investigators will try following the original protocol making 2 randomized groups of patients, with cancer diagnosis, >18 years old, with a GFR <60 and >30 ml/min/1,73m2 by MDRD formula and/or diabetic patients. In the group 1 the patients will receive a solution with 154 mEq/L of a sodium bicarbonate, 3 cc/Kg/h at 1 hour before the injection of contrast and 1 cc/Kg/h during and 6 hours before the injection. The primary end point will be the rise of 25% or more in creatinine or dialysis needed.

NCT ID: NCT00540449 Completed - HIV Infections Clinical Trials

TMC278-TiDP6-C209: A Clinical Trial in Treatment Naive HIV-1 Patients Comparing TMC278 to Efavirenz in Combination With Tenofovir + Emtricitabine.

Start date: May 2008
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this trial is to compare the effectiveness, safety and tolerability of TMC278 given at a dose of 25 mg once daily versus efavirenz (EFV) at a dose of 600 mg once daily, when combined with a fixed background regimen consisting of emtricitabine (FTC) + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), in HIV-1 infected patients who have not yet taken any anti-HIV drugs. The following evaluations will be done: antiviral activity, immunologic changes, and viral geno-/phenotype evolution, relationship of Pharmacokinetics (PK) and PK/Pharmacodynamics, medical resource utilization and treatment adherence.

NCT ID: NCT00536419 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Impact of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Substance Use Disorder on Motorcycle Traffic Accidents

Start date: September 2007
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether motorcycle drivers with ADHD are at a greater risk for motorcycle accidents, and whether this risk can be mitigated by treatment with methylphenidate. We will evaluate the effectiveness of Methylphenidate on driving performance, among motorcycle drivers, and investigate the correlation between improvement of ADHD symptoms (inattention and impulsivity) and driving performance.
