Retapamulin Versus Placebo in Secondarily-Infected Traumatic Lesions (SITL)

The purpose of Study TOC110977 is to demonstrate clinical superiority of Retapamulin ointment, 1%, over placebo in patients with secondarily-infected traumatic lesions, which includes secondarily-infected lacerations, abrasions and sutured wounds. Subjects 2 months of age and older will be treated with topical retapamulin or placebo ointment twice daily for 5 days. The primary endpoint of this study is the clinical response at follow-up (Day 12-14; 7-9 days after the end of therapy) in the intent-to-treat clinical population.

Safety and Efficacy of Azithromycin to Treat Cutaneous Leishmaniasis

The adequate treatment of the American tegumentary leishmaniasis is crucial since the disease, differently from the caused by the Old World species, is painful and not self-healing and may lead to the disfiguring mucosal involvement. So far, pentavalent antimony compounds have been considered the treatment of choice for cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL), however, these drugs present high frequency of side effects and important disadvantages as parenteral administration and need for careful renal and cardiac monitoring. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic, non-expensive, largely commercially available that has shown in-vitro and in vivo activity against different species of Leishmania. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral azithromycin for the treatment of CL. The efficacy of oral treatment of azithromycin 500 mg/day for 20 days is going to be compared with the standard treatment of intramuscular injections of 20 mg/Kg/day of pentavalent antimonials (Glucantime®) for 20 days in patients with CL from two endemic regions of Brazil: the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte and Montes Claros (MG)in the southeast Brazil and in Corte de Pedras (Bahia), Northeastern Brazil. The patients follow up lasts for 12 months.

LOGiC - Lapatinib Optimization Study in ErbB2 (HER2) Positive Gastric Cancer: A Phase III Global, Blinded Study Designed to Evaluate Clinical Endpoints and Safety of Chemotherapy Plus Lapatinib

This is an international multi-center trial that will enroll patients with locally advanced, unresectable, or metastatic gastric, esophageal, or gastro-esophageal junction cancer whose tumors have amplification of the ErbB2 (HER2) gene. The trial will investigate whether lapatinib, when added to the chemotherapy regimen, capecitabine plus oxaliplatin (CapeOx), extends the time to progression and overall survival. Tumor ErbB2 (HER2) status must be known before trial entry. CapeOx is administered to all patients, and patients will be randomly assigned to receive either lapatinib or placebo.

Group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Versus Fluoxetine for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: a Practical Trial

First line treatments fo Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) are Selective Serotonin Recapture Inhibitors (SSRIs) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) including exposure with response prevention. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the clinical efficacy of GCBT and SSRIs for OCD patients. Other clinical trials have compared these treatments, but with OCD patients without any other psychiatric disorder. In this study patients with current age between 18 and 65 years, with YBOCS score of at least 16 and psychiatric comorbidities will be not excluded. Exclusion criteria will be: OCD secondary to brain trauma, stroke or malformation; current abuse of alcohol or other psychoactive substance, current presence of psychotic symptoms, suicidal risk, psychiatric or clinical comorbidity that might get worse with the medications used in the trial. So, the present study investigates the efficacy of these treatments for a heterogeneous OCD population, trying to identify if the usual treatments are efficient when applied in the public health system that treat not just patients with only OCD diagnosis. Patients will be randomized for GCBT and SSRI, and after treatment will be evaluated by researchers blind to the treatment received.
